News Item -  religious leaders have condemned the administration's treatment of Americans protesting the death of George Floyd

Mainstream U.S. Protestant and Catholic leaders sharply criticized President Donald Trump on Tuesday, a day after peaceful protesters were forcibly displaced for a staged presidential photo in front of a church near the White House.

News Item - Former Defense Secretary James Mattis denounces Trump for dividing country

Former Secretary of Defense James Mattis denounced President Trump, the "militarization" of Washington, D.C., and the "abuse of executive authority" of  forcing protesters from Lafayette Square  in a stunning statement that made the case that the country is witnessing the consequences of a president who has sought to "divide" the nation for three years.

"Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead he tries to divide us," Mattis said in his lengthy statement titled, "In union there is strength." "We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society."

News Item - Military Leaders criticize Trump

... days of condemnation from current and  former  military  leaders  about the President’s apparent eagerness to brandish the nation’s armed services as a way to crush domestic turmoil. The overriding concern is that Trump is once again wielding the armed forces for personal gain, rather than national interests, and threatening the military’s longstanding reputation for non-partisanship.

@Martin_Dempsey

America’s military, our sons and daughters, will place themselves at risk to protect their fellow citizens. Their job is unimaginably hard overseas; harder at home. Respect them, for they respect you. America is not a battleground. Our fellow citizens are not the enemy. #BeBetter

News Item - #Vichy is becoming a thing.

George Will: “We cannot know all the measures necessary to restore the nation’s domestic health and international standing, but we know the first step: Senate Republicans must be routed, as condign punishment for their Vichyite collaboration”

Opinion | Trump must be removed. So must his congressional enablers.

With Trump, there is no such thing as rock bottom. So, assume the worst is yet to come.

Has anybody heard anything from the Republican Senators who acquitted Trump in his impeachment trial a few months ago? Think any of them want a do-over?

It's embarrassing to see how universally despised the president of the United States is.  It's almost like piling on.

If anyone in his family had even one tiny fraction of decency they would encourage him to resign and renounce that fake medical report, cite his mental health from "stress" and walk away. The damage is done to America, the damage is done to every aspect of our government, the damage is done to the economy, the damage is done to their credibility, the damage is done, this was what Bannon and Trump wanted, it is what their Russian handlers wanted so just let it go and walk away. There is no fixing this by the election, it cannot be fixed, they never wanted to actually fix anything. Bannon and Trump subscribe to the burn it all down theory because Republicans did not get everything they wanted so they intended to burn it all down. So pull a Bush move, put up a banner saying "Mission Accomplished" tout how you were welcomed as "liberators" and just walk away. Because if this family doesn't get a clue and realize that throwing their incompetent very ill father under the bus is his only way out of this, they will go down as well.

Excellent comments.  We're kind of getting down to crunch time.  The US as we know it will not survive 4 1/2 more years of Donald Trump.

We have to understand we are in a form of war ( war with Trumpism) . It is a war of words, but it is a war, and we have to conduct ourselves accordingly.

Trump supporters [deleted] when they support him for re-election that is what they are. It's bad enough they inflicted 4 years of this insanity on the nation and the world, now they want four more.

Without his die hard followers he is nothing. Without his followers he would be someone who thought he was Napoleon bouncing off the walls in a rubber room.
