AT LONG LAST, FINALLY, TRUMP IS ASKED WHY HE LIES SO MUCH BY WHITE HOUSE REPORTER

Today is a red letter day, for finally someone asked trump about the one element of his presidency that sticks out like a sore thumb every day.  It is the question the world has been waiting for. Unfortunately because of the format , where Trump can ignore anything he doesnt want to answer, the exchange lasted mere seconds. But maybe other reporters will get brave after this and try again tomorrow. They should ask him the question every day.

SV Dáte: Who Is the Reporter Who Asked Trump If He Regrets ‘All the Lying’?

Erik Hawkins
8-10 minutes

C-SPAN screenshot Huffington Post Senior White House Correspondent S.V. Date asked President Trump Thursday if he regrets "all the lying" he has done during his term.

S.V. Dáte is a senior White House correspondent with Huffington Post who went viral Thursday when he asked President Donald Trump directly if he regretted “all the lying” he has done to the American people, during the regular White House coronavirus press briefing.

Trump seemed unsure if he had heard Dáte correctly at first, but when the question was repeated, he ignored it and called on another reporter.

Liberals on Twitter erupted in virtual applause for Dáte, while conservatives and fans of Trump called it more evidence of the “fake news media” Trump so often rails against.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Dáte Asked Trump, ‘After 3 & a Half Years, Do You Regret At All The Lying You’ve Done to the American People?”

Trump snubs reporter who accused him of lying to the American peopleDuring a press briefing Huffington Post reporter S.V. Dáte asked Trump why he lies. Trump swiftly continued with a different reporter.

During Thursday’s regularly scheduled coronavirus press briefing, Trump called on Dáte, after fielding questions on Israeli annexations and mail-in voting.

“Mr. President, after three and a half years, do you regret at all all the lying you have done to the American people?” Dáte asked. “All the lying, all the dishonesties —”

Trump appeared unsure if he heard correctly, and asked Dáte, “That who has done?”

“That you have done,” Dáte clarified.

Trump immediately turned to another reporter, without answering the question. Dáte could be heard in the background, referring to the “tens of thousands” of false statements Trump has been accused of making by outlets including the Washington Post.

2. Dáte Has Been a Political Reporter for More Than 30 Years & Has Written Novels & Biographies of National Figures

Shinrish, or S.V., Dáte has covered politics for outlets including the Associated Press, Palm Beach Post, National Journal and NPR, according to his Huffington Post author page.

He wrote a book on Jeb Bush — one of Trump’s 2016 Republican rivals for the presidential nomination — called Jeb: America’s Next Bush, based on his local reporting on Bush before his presidential bid, according to Dáte’s website.

As the Huffington Post’s senior White House correspondent, he has critically covered Trump’s actions in office, including, most recently, reports that Trump rarely has daily presidential intelligence briefings anymore.

3. Dáte Was Called a ‘Hero’ by Liberal Twitter, While Conservatives Said He Was a ‘Hack’ or ‘Grandstanding’

Dáte’s question earned him virtual applause from liberals and progressives on Twitter, with some calling him a “hero” and others wondering why the reporter Trump called on after him didn’t yield in an attempt to get the president to answer the question.

Aaron Rupar, who covers most of Trump’s public appearances for Vox, gave Dáte “kudos” for asking the question.

CNN Political Analyst Joe Lockhart, meanwhile, wryly added that “at least [Trump] didn’t add another lie by saying he’s never lied.”

Conservative columnist Stephen Miller recalled Daily Caller reporter Neil Munro heckling President Barack Obama in the Rose Garden in 2012, when he shouted out, “Why do you favor foreigners over Americans?” during a press briefing, as reported by Politico.

“Neil Munro didn’t come within a hair of badgering a U.S. President like S.V. Dáte did, and he was labeled a heckler by other journos,” Miller wrote. “U.S. Presidents should be badgered, but the reaction from the cool [kids’] table to both is fun.”

User “Shem Horne,” a pro-Trump Twitter personality called Dáte a “hack” and a “crybaby,” also suggesting that Trump supporters start “our own White House press association.”

4. After the Viral Exchange, Dáte Tweeted That He Had Been ‘Waiting 5 Years’ to Ask Trump That Question

As his exchange with Trump lit up liberal and conservative Twitter, Dáte tweeted, “For five years I’ve been wanting to ask him that.”

In less than half an hour, his Tweet had garnered 30,000 likes and nearly 6,000 re-tweets and comments.

Dáte’s pinned Tweet directs users to a January article he wrote, called “The Ministry of Untruth,” a lengthy piece making the argument that Trump is “regularly and aggressively dishonest” and that it is harming the country.

“Everyone knows the president lies,” he wrote in the Tweet. “Most people understand he does it every day, about pretty much everything. We’ve gotten used to it. What we forget is just how corrosive it is to our democracy.”

Heavy reached out to Dáte for comment, but did not immediately hear back.

I sense the ability of Trump and Trumpism to cause fear and acquiesce in those around him will begin to wane in the coming weeks until it becomes a crescendo as more personal, professional and financial details emerge on how this man has conducted himself through his adult life.

This too.  Melania and son Barron, each have dual US and Slovenian citizenship.  Barron was also raised with Slovenian as his first language, English his second.  If Trump loses, which he must, fully expect Melania and Barron to emigrate to Slovenia leaving only divorce papers and financial legal demands on Trump and his holdings.

Laura Benanti's Melania Trump returns to talk Tulsa rally with Stephen Colbert

Benanti's first lady also addressed the "lies" in the Melania Trump biography   The Art of Her Deal .

By   Nick Romano
June 23, 2020 at 10:45 AM EDT
Laura Benanti 's  Melania Trump  has remained out of the public eye on  The Late Show  these days, but the Broadway star returned to impersonate the first lady so she could talk about  President Trump 's lackluster rally in Tulsa, Okla. with host  Stephen Colbert .

"It is as empty as a Trump rally," she said with a laugh about her undisclosed quarantine location.

On Saturday, June 20, Donald Trump attended his first mass rally in months at the BOK Center, despite it being held on the weekend of Juneteenth, the anniversary of the abolishment of slavery in the U.S., and the warnings about further spreading coronavirus. While the Trump campaigned claimed that close to a million people registered for tickets, the 19,000-seat locale was   at least one-third empty,  with only about 6,200 in attendance.

In terms of his performance at the rally, Benanti's Melania told Colbert "it was like his performance every night: way smaller than promised and everyone involved should get tested."

The fake first kady also addressed Mary Jordan's new biography about the real Melania, called   The Art of Her Deal , in which it states Melania renegotiated her prenup after Trump won the election. "Don't believe what you read!" she exclaimed. "This book makes me out to be a ruthless, cold-hearted manipulator who will stop at nothing to get what I want. But it's also full of lies."

So fitting regarding the prenup I think.

That is why the USA is experiencing Trump's deep seated daddy issues.

I guess we have to wait for the election but if Trump is reelected, America will likely fall.

Nobody will back our play any longer.

Trump and his far right wing crew of mafiosos will destroy the USAs reputation of freedom.

Kudos to that reporter for his bravery in asking that question.

I do hope more reporters get on the band wagon and start hounding trmp with this question.

I noticed that the reporter had to ask his question 3 times because trmp pretended he couldn't hear him.

Probably a safe bet that said reporter will not be allowed back into a presidential press briefing again after today. I think he has made himself persona non grata...

I don't think the White House gets to make that decision.  Which reporters attend a presidential press briefing is up to the White House Correspondents Association.  He probably won't ever be called on to ask a question again though.

He lies so much because he is a liar. He lies so much because foolish people believe the lies. He lies so much because lawyers are paid to help him cover up his lies. He lies so much because no one stops him or calls him on the lies.

I think the question that really should be asked of left wing media sources is why they have lied about Trump, Russia collusion, Ukraine collusion, and pretty much every other "scandal" the media has dreamt up over the past 4 years.

Probably will get nothing but confused expressions. They really have no clue why they have lied.

A whole lot of folk have been convicted over that "fake" Russian thingy. Hardly fake.

The second that Trump is out of office he will have many different felony charges against him.

Seems so many far right wing fascists unfortunately hooked their star to a career criminal.

So what else is new.

Trump looks so good in orange as all of his martyrs will.
