The spread of wildfires over the past two weeks has only continued to push smoke out across the United States.

The wildfires have burned swaths of California, Arizona, Washington and Colorado, and have sparked up in other Western states.

At the center of the wildfires, California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a state of emergency. More than 100,000 people were asked to evacuate, some of whom were allowed to return to their homes this week.

In the fires burning in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties, more than 20,000 people were ordered to evacuate. Those in the Bay Area were advised to stay inside their homes due to the far-reaching smoke.

The Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program has issued smoke forecast outlooks across parts of California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming. According to the program, such outlooks are issued "in areas where smoke from wildland fires may be of concern and Air Resource Advisors have been deployed." There are currently 14 states with active large fire incidents, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

Evening..Heart breaking be it this side of the Pacific or yours..Every summer we dance with the devil and every summer it wins..I hope there is no repeat of what happened here this year, but I fear the worst..I love summer, but at the same time I dread it..Far as I know 55 of our Firies have been sent over to help as you did for us..and to the shock and devastation to Australia, 3 of your Firies were lost here..They have not been forgotten....

The size of the first is hard to comprehend. Yes, the Aussie firefighters are here and for that we are grateful.

Thank you for remembering our three that were lost in Oz.

Should read, ''the size of the fires'' not first.

Here in Colorado, what with the addition of fires on the Western Slope to the smoke from California, the air has been pretty nasty for the last couple weeks. Visibilities at times have been down to a mile and a half. Before it cooled down yesterday to 80 was a string of 17 days with highs of 90 or above...been a hot and dry summer and the Summer Monsoon flow never really developed. For the year so far here in Denver the total precipitation is only 6.38 inches. Thankfully the pattern has changed. We've had snow and freezing temps as early in the Fall as September 3rd! (1961)

My California peeps put their emergency plans into action starting a couple of weeks ago. Out of necessity, they've got it down to a science. My buddy in Santa Rosa has a whole network of people, some as far away as Fresno and Chico, that work together to help people evacuate and protect their properties as best they can. She's as ready as she can be and does her best to help everyone else to get their checklist done before it's too late.

She moved her animals out last weekend. The air quality has deteriorated every day.

She was lucky and the fires stopped a block away from her home last year. Many of her neighbors still haven't come back and some can't because FEMA isn't being forthcoming with promised funding.
