I was searching for something else on youtube, when I came upon this video about a study done at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital on memory andexercise. I found it totally interesting.
And yes, coincidentally, I am related to Sue Halpern. She is my husband's cousin.
Unfortunately, this is me!
This article appears to be nepotism ; )
There is nothing in the CoC about nepotism . Is it time for another CoC change vote ?
I'm addicted to exercise and the mental benefits are a big part of it as well as the social aspect. My problem is I have a had time taking days off to rest and recuperate.
One form of exercising that so many, either forget about or don't use properly, is reading.
Works wonders for the memory.
Oh no........
This is true first!
I make a point of doing mental games every day and I read all the time. It does help to keep the brain in tune. But I do think that it's important to realize that both brain exercise and physicalexercisedo different functions. Brainexercisestrengthenssynaptic connections and grows new ones but it doesn't replace dead brain cells. Physical exercise actually replaces brain cells and that is equally important.
The expression "Use it or lose it" comes to mind.
What happens if you read while using the tread mill !?
Brilliance!
I don't know about that BF. Movement for us old folks is good anyway you look at it, reading or not. I can tell you when reading doesn't do a thing for you is when you're reading the signs on the side of the road as you finish your 400 mile trip.
Another thing that is very helpful in my opinion is water and plenty of it. Get your 8 or 9 glasses of water each day, even if you do have to get up in the middle of the night.
I heard this last night coming back from South Carolina on the road. The station called this woman in this article from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and I listened to her tell how she accomplished this transformation. It was very inspiring, although her notoriety has actually come about from all the people who have criticized her. She said she didn't put her picture up on her Facebook page to brag, but to show people she did it and if they wanted to do it they could too.

She received so much criticism it made her famous in a sort of way.
I get up in the middle of the night for water ... but giving water not getting water !
I'm relying on genes and not the kind you wear. It was brought out in the conversation that 99% of us will never accomplish what she has, but like the walk starts with the first step. Maybe I can carry my laptop along if I can remember to do it.
I was planning to exercise my brain, but it wouldn't get on the treadmill.
