Armed Trumpists Surround Michigan Secretary of State’s Home Screaming ‘Stop the Steal’
Armed Trump supporters demanding that the president’s election loss is overturned gathered outside Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's home this weekend to shout obscenities at her and her 4-year-old son, she said in a statement. Benson wrote that she and her boy were decorating the house and watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas Saturday night when dozens of protesters arrived outside. “The demands made outside my home were unambiguous, loud, and threatening,” she wrote. “They targeted me in my role as Michigan's Chief Election Officer.”
The Detroit Free Press reported that part of the protest was livestreamed and showed some of the demonstrators kitted out in Trump merchandise. The group can be heard chanting “Stop the steal” and “We want an audit.” The group dispersed with no arrests when police arrived at the scene.
Would you feel safe if you were Jocelyn Benson?
gathered outside Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson's home
Just peacefully protesting...acting more like Democrats every day!
Will you be laughing when someone gets shot?
Oh yes, no one was hurt; but project away on what ifs.
Reality is leftist Brown Shirts have and would have hurt people.
But they had big scary guns- which they didn't use.
Did they break any laws?
Lemme see... Kyle... what was his name??
An antifa guy, I suppose... since he actually killed people...
Ah yes... Rittenhouse... Kyle Rittenhouse...
Are you still excusing the kid, Ronin?
Apparently, she did.
in true tea party terrorist fashion. cluck, cluck, cluck ...
Right. They are terrorists for following the law.
Then what are leftist Brown Shirts (BLM, Antifa, and their brother and sister organizations)?
The pearl clenching from the left over non violent right wing protesters is sickening. Take care of your own damn side for a change- we all would appreciate it.
Let's talk about actual killers... like Kyle Rittenhouse...
... or... we can talk about where threatened violence must inevitably lead: violence.
Oh, wait... that's the same thing...
Of course, there is the right-wing Air Force Sargent that shot and killed an officer guarding a federal building and wounding his partner. Oh, and then he went to Boulder Creek CA, and killed a deputy Sheriff...
Nothing to see on the violent right-wing side. Move along.
The alt right forgot about those guys like this AF Sergeant and Kyle Rittenhouse.
But let's focus on the leftist Brownshirts because that's all they see.
And so it begins....
Someone is going to end up getting hurt or worse.
All it will take is one tin soldier.
Officials in AZ, NV, MI, WI, MN, PA and GA have been receiving threats from the braindead Trumpsters.
Black Michigan lawmaker posts voicemails of lynching threats in wake of election hearing
The anti-democratic Trump/MAGA forces bear the hallmarks of a domestic terrorist organization.
Why post this fake headline/news? There is nothing in the Daily Beast story - nor in the original story it references from the Detroit Free Press - that supports the assertion that these protesters were armed. There is even a half hour long video of the event in the original story to confirm it. I skimmed it and I didn't see anybody with a weapon.
If you're going to seed this story, at least seed the real story.
Having said that, I don't think it's cool to protest outside people's homes (official residences like the White House excepted). It might be constitutionally permissible, but it's obnoxious - even peaceful demonstrations like this one.
I also did not see anyone actually armed, however that does not mean they weren't shouting threats.
"The demands made outside my home were unambiguous, loud and threatening. They targeted me in my role as Michigan’s Chief Election Officer. But the threats of those gathered weren’t actually aimed at me — or any other elected officials in this state. They were aimed at the voters." - Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson
And here is how fucking insane and deluded the Trump supporters are:
"We are letting her know that we're not taking this bullshit election, we are not standing down, we are not giving up you are not going to take this election from a man that has earned it completely 100% by a freaking landslide. Let me tell you: This ain't over." - insane Trump fan Genevieve Peters
Only the truly mentally deranged believe Trump won "100% by a freaking landslide" by losing the electoral college by at least 350,000 votes and losing the popular vote by over 7 million. I wouldn't feel safe with such rabidly insane persons protesting outside my families house with kids inside, who knows what these nut jobs are capable of whether armed or not.
Yeah, but I see the same problem in coverage of these people that I see with the coverage of Trump, i.e.,there is plenty of legitimate grounds for criticizing these people. We don't need to invent things like the idea that they were armed.
And look what this fake headline did. Scroll up and you will see that other members are already referring to these people as terrorists. I'm sure many readers of the Daily Beast also now have that impression. That is way beyond what is fair.
Yeah, I heard that. That's delusional.
Maybe you don't mean it like this, but "rabid," combined with your mention of safety, implies a kind of irrational, unrestrained violence to me. I didn't see anything like that in this group. They're nuts, but they looked pretty peaceful. They were mouthy. That's about it. No weapons. No thrown objects. No vandalism. They showed up, shouted for a while, and went home.
Michigan secretary of state says armed protesters gathered outside her home, claiming voter fraud
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said dozens of armed protesters gathered outside her Detroit home, chanting and shouting obscenities about overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election .
© Kathleen Galligan/TNS/Zuma Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said a group of armed protesters gathered outside her home and demanded she overturn the results of the election.Benson said her 4-year-old son was about to start watching "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" on Saturday night when a group of protesters began chanting into bullhorns in front of her house.
The protesters made "unambiguous, loud and threatening" demands to overturn the election results, which the state certified in late November , she said in a statement .
Benson, whose office oversees elections in the state, called the latest protests "an extension of the noise and clouded efforts to spread false information about the security and accuracy of our elections."
"The individuals gathered outside my home targeted me as Michigan's Chief Election officer. But their threats were actually aimed at the 5.5 million Michigan citizens who voted in this fall's election, seeking to overturn their will. They will not succeed in doing so," Benson said in a Twitter post .
President-elect Joe Biden won Michigan by more than 154,000 votes, and there has been no evidence of fraud in the election.
But President Donald Trump's legal team has relied on baseless claims of voter fraud to file dozens of lawsuits in states where the President lost. In Michigan, every court case filed by Trump or those who support him has been lost or withdrawn.
In a statement to CNN, Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said there were "no arrests or violations of criminal law" during the protest. About 25 to 30 people attended, Shaw said.
"There were reports that some of the protesters were armed," he said. "The protesters dispersed on their own."
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy issued a joint statement criticizing the protesters.
"They shouted baseless conspiracy theories about the election, and in videos uploaded to social media, at least one individual could be heard shouting 'you're murderers' within earshot of her child's bedroom," the statement read. "This mob-like behavior is an affront to basic morality and decency."
How would she know? I saw the video. She never came out and no weapons appear. It was fully night, and pretty dark where the demonstrators where. There's no way she was spotting weapons from the house.
If she plays this fast and loose with the facts, I can see why these people don't trust her to run an honest election.
Reports? Sure. From fictional publishers like The Daily Beast. Not from cops.
What threats? How come no one was arrested for threatening a public official? Maybe because no one threatened her.
All she needs now is real factual proof. Wouldn't trust the word of any of the Democratic quartet in Michigan (Governor, Lt Governor, SoS, or AG). They are all self serving hacks that create their own crisis and then try and blame everyone else.
Again, pearl clutching from the left over peaceful protests. Want violence to your damn Brown Shirts (BLM, Antifa, and the rest).
Its interesting to watch someone criticizing this seed for making assumptions make all sorts of assumptions himself. You don't know how or if she was in position to see if any of the protesters were carrying guns, that is fair to say isnt it? Maybe she looked out the window. Maybe she could see on a security camera. Maybe she did go to her doorstep. You dont know.
You said the seeded article is fake news. The seeded article specifically connects the presence of guns to a statement made by the Secretary of State, so it's not fake news.
Seems that is a lot of butthurt over the election results and the following lost court cases in MI. Of course, MI could invite Rudy Four Seasons back. The last ''hearing'' was a hoot.
Cheers.
Did you see the video? She wasn't outside with the protestors. That tells me right away she wasn't in as good a position as the person with the camera, and no weapons appear on camera.
Out of her house, which is filled and surrounded by bright lights into a dark street. I doubt she saw weapons that way.
The resolution of security cameras is terrible - especially at that distance and at night.
If she did, she didn't do it during the half hour of the video, and I still don't think it would have helped.
Yeah, but you know what? If Trump said this and there was video like this showing no weapons (not to mention people only out in front of the house and not surrounding it), the story would be "Trump falsely claims armed protesters surrounded his house."
Your entire take on what she saw or didnt see is speculation.
If you like, but at least that speculation is based in multiple facts in evidence. Do you even have a take? Do you consider facts? Or do you just take her word for it?
Agreed. And as someone that watches the news every morning here in the Detroit Metro area, the news didn't say anything about people being armed.
If you want people to be more outraged, apparently it's helpful to claim someone was armed, even if there is zero evidence for that.
It's great to see t the same people who downplayed their fellow travelers doing things like throwing bricks at police, looting, starting fires and even literally killing people now gin up the sky is falling outrage over a protest where no one was hurt.
And naturally, the same people are quiet as a church mouse when these sorts of protests happen all the time outside Republican officials homes.
Them antifa sure is nasty!!
