Trump Rants About Getting 'Screwed' By Supreme Court In Twitter Meltdown

· Trends Reporter, HuffPost

Sat, December 12, 2020, 2:22 AM EST

President Donald Trump  finally shared his reaction to the Supreme Court  dumping the Texas lawsuit challenging the election  — and it wasn’t pretty.

He ranted after midnight Friday about getting “screwed,” boasting he “got   more votes   than any other sitting president in history” — yet “purportedly lost” (because   Joe Biden   got 7 million more votes).

Trump had “intervened” on behalf of the Texas lawsuit seeking to toss all the votes in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, which happened to vote for Biden. The suit was backed by 17 other red states (“wonderful states,” the president noted in his tweet).

But the court tossed the suit Friday because Texas “lacked standing” to challenge votes in other states, it said in a   brief, unsigned order .

In “a flash” the suit was “thrown out and gone, without even looking at the many reasons it was brought,” Trump angrily tweeted. “A Rigged Election, fight on!” he added.

He complained bitterly that no court has yet judged his complaints about election fraud on their “merits” — even though there is absolutely no evidence of election fraud. “It’s a “legal disgrace, an embarrassment to the USA!!!” he tweeted.

He grumbled that the Supreme Court “really let us down,” and has “no wisdom, no courage!”

Twitter marked the tweets about a rigged election “disputed.”

The president didn’t detail how he might “fight on.” But Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, the mastermind behind Trump’s failed legal assault on election results, told Newsmax Friday that   more suits will be filed .

The Supreme Court decision is widely viewed as a final, devastating blow  to Trump’s battle to overturn election results. “From a legal perspective,  the fat lady has sung ,” said Steve Vladeck, a CNN Supreme Court analyst and University of Texas Law professor.

The Electoral College meets Monday to cast ballots reflecting the voters’ choice of President-elect Biden.

Critics responded to Trump’s complaints by telling him to get ready to hit the road. But a number of supporters ominously called on him to   utilize his backers   — and even the military — to get what he wants.

some of the supporters of trump will be attending rallies today to promote sedition and groveling to their god of willful ignorance. fortunately for the sane in america and the rest of the world, we're in the peak of a pandemic, these are super spreader events, and the supporters of trump are by and large more susceptible to COVID19. 160 years later and once again unamerican traitors are flirting with the idea of secession because they're unhappy with the results of an election and the US Constitution.

With all the shit they are pulling and all the shit they let donald get away with, anytime one of them dares to complain about Biden or Liberals, I am just going to tell them to fuck off and kiss my ass.

As far as I am concerned, these die hard supporters no longer have any standing or any viewpoint that is worth listening to.

They have shown themselves to be sycophantic nutjobs devoid of reality and do not deserve to have any voice on a national stage.

Anyone who supports Trump's post election campaign to try to overturn his loss has some serious credibility issues IMO.   I can understand people supporting this for about a week after the election.   But when the dynamic was all claims/lawsuits and no evidence, they should have looked deeper and cut free of the mind-numbing partisanship.   It has been breathtakingly obvious that Trump cannot deal with losing and literally will do everything in his power to try to cheat his way into a second term.   This has been a disgusting thing to behold and it just sickens me to see the grip that partisanship has on some people.

I have to agree with you. I am a conservative right leaning Independent. I have never really been a ardent Trump supporter though I did like some of his ideas in the beginning. I am not a Biden supporter and I did not vote for him, but the will of the American people have spoken and he won fair and square and he will lead this country until 2024 at least for better or worse. It also sickens me to see what Trump is doing. He should have accepted his loss graciously and let it go as a done deal. Except for his core of hard core supporters, he has turned a lot of people away from him that supported him in the beginning.

I'm sure he'll rant about this one too, and one of the judges he appointed said this:

U.S. District Judge Brett Ludwig, a Trump appointee , dismissed Trump’s federal lawsuit asking the court to order the Republican-controlled Legislature to name Trump the winner over Democrat Joe Biden. The judge said Trump’s arguments “fail as a matter of law and fact.”

I didn't say that I agreed with them. Some of them are assholes. Some of them are criminals. Some of them are just swept along because they are empty or have a beef with society. But they are human beings. Human beings respond better, or at least they tend to, when you don't try to start a conversation by calling them less than human. I know that I surely don't respond well to that approach.

Like it or not, moving forward we are going to have to find a way to convince millions of otherwise sane, peaceful individuals that Donald Trump did not really win the election, because he didn't and they think that he did. Call them fruit-bats and wackos if you want, but the fact that they don't believe you still remains. It is still an outgrowth of the festering political reality brought on by a race to the bottom on all fronts, stimulated by tribalism and the two party system. We have been headed in this direction for quite a while, 40 or 50 years even, and right now we can see how the tremendously fragile thing we call democracy might just call on everybody to pay a little bit more attention to it.

How we behave under duress, how we behave when we are in the catbird seat, how we behave when we are sure that no one is watching, how we behave when there is someone right there, pushing all of our buttons at once, is the true measure of our character. I don't mind deriding actions that I think are inappropriate, as I don't mind taking issue with the words that we choose to communicate, even fiercely. I do take issue, however, with characterizations of people as being less than or non-human. It is one step from there to a place that we cannot come back from.

Not simple.

We have nearly half the population who have abandoned reason. We need to recover them... but we cannot give them any ground... at all.

California was once hamstrung by a Republican minority that was big enough to block everything. In the end, the voters had had enough, and gave the Dems a supermajority, so they could effectively rule.

I think the country is there. We must overwhelm the crazies. We shouldn't do them harm... but we must not allow them to destroy the republic.

Perhaps they will eventually return to reason... perhaps not. That's their problem.

Not simple.

Sure got that right.

We have nearly half the population who have abandoned reason. We need to recover them... but we cannot give them any ground... at all.

I would say that more like maybe a quarter of the population had thought that maybe something was wrong with the election right after it occurred. I get the sense that, as this drags on, the numbers who believe strongly enough to actually do something about it have dropped, especially after all the lost court cases. These people have not totally abandoned reason, though, and that is where we will find the common ground.

Have you ever dealt with a person on a one to one basis who does not believe that reality as you experience it is the reality that they are experiencing? They cannot, through means logical or otherwise, be made to see the reality that is, but instead will become agitated when confronted. In order to deal with them and keep things calm, you have to acknowledge that they see things differently. Don't have to agree with the way they see it, but you must acknowledge the fact that they have a different point of view and you have to let them know that it is ok to have that point of view. This acknowledgement is the first step to building trust. Without trust, I don't think that we can mend these terrific rents in the fabric of our society.

Perhaps they will eventually return to reason... perhaps not. That's their problem.

Respectfully, it is all of our problem.

You should be scared, years after the 2016 election, 2/3 of Democrats believed that Russia changed vote tallies in the election.

Think about that.  Not a month later, but in 2018 an overwhelming majority of Democrats believed, without any evidence, that Russian tampered with vote tallies. It shows how detached from reality democrats are. They are completely oblivious to their own delusions.

Exactly. So arguing is pointless. We must (politely) crush them politically. Marginalize them. Render them innocuous.

... it is ok to have that point of view.

That's not simple either. "You have the right to be wrong" is not an easy sell. I'm not sure we should try. We must not be rude or unkind, but I see no possibility for compromise. The Earth is not flat... nor is it a half-sphere.

Racism is wrong. Authoritarianism is wrong. I see no possible compromise.

Bob, just to be clear, I did not say that one should ever compromise on fundamental issues such as racism or authoritarianism.

To further my analogy, take someone who is bi-polar or schizophrenic who can be helped with medication. This person is not cognizant or aware of needing medication. To them, they see absolutely no reason to take medication, the medication makes them feel different and less than themselves, but people, their friends and doctors keep telling them to take their meds. If they are not in an institutional setting, there is no way to force them to take their meds. So how does one go about seeing that they take their medication? There needs to be trust in the relationship and one has to make deals with the person. It is not easy to build trust and we are always looking for a shortcut, but there is no shortcut to build trust, at least not that I have found. It is work and it must be constantly attended to.

People are lazy, and that is our downfall. We think we should just be able to make something work and forget about it. But we can't. Not with relationships, not with technology and not with politics.

I agree with your premises... but not your conclusions.

We, as a nation, need to reintegrate the Trumpists. Such a large number of self-exclusions is very unhealthy. And morally, we have a duty to help those in need.

You and I agree, to this point. How do we proceed?

Trumpists are tribal. Their beliefs are not rational, but tribal. Each believes as her friends and neighbors believe. Those beliefs are also religious: faith-based. Facts are subordinate to dogma.

Right now, their tribe follows the Words of Trump. They could just as well follow the Words of X. What can be done to switch their allegiance to a healthier purpose?

The same way it has always been done: Build a relationship with a person. Give them reasons to see that you are a decent human being. Listen to their reasoning. Tell them your own.

Do not treat them like they are less-than because they see the world differently than we would wish.

We cannot make anyone do anything they do not want to do. If we try, we may be able to force them to act like they are complying with our wishes, but chances are they are just paying lip service because they know we want them to behave according to a "script." This script and the negative reactions thereto is exactly what Trump has been playing on to lead them to his way of thinking and keep them there. With Trump, they don't have to behave in a socially conscious manner because he has "made them free" of the norms of society. This helps explain the fact why all these fringe groups, white nationalists et al are in the mix with Trump supporting Christian Evangelicals and the workaday Republican voters: You can be free to express yourself without fear of censure, no matter how outlandish. Trump is not going to say anything, they feed his ego.  Just as long as they remain true, that is. He will quickly throw anyone who crosses him to the mob.

We need to realize that people are divided internally. They are not the same throughout like a big tube of bologna. They have compartments, sliding panels and trap doors that even they do not realize and can be a really decent and upstanding person in the one part of their lives while holding beliefs that run counter to social norms in another. We tend to forget this and pin every aspect of a person on their worst day.

Enough of my babbling.
