A United Airlines flight has made an emergency landing after suffering major damage to one of its engines and dropping huge pieces of debris over a neighborhood in Colorado.
Flight UA328 suffered serious engine failure shortly after takeoff from Denver.
The Boeing 777-200, which was scheduled to fly to Honolulu in Hawaii, diverted back to Denver and landed safely.
Cops in Bloomfield responded to reports of objects falling from the sky on Saturday afternoon.
Huge pieces of the plane's engine cowling could be seen littering the lawns of houses.
One man who said he was a passenger on the flight tweeted: 'I'm on #UA328, pilots did an amazing job because it was loud, shaking, and scary as hell back here. Fire crews have us out on the tarmac.'
Another Twitter user posted a picture from the ground which he said was of the aircraft, which showed the jet's engine on fire and trailing smoke.

Chris Vanderveen said the plane cheered when they touched back down after experiencing 'engine issues'.
No injuries on the ground or in the plane were reported.
Police are working to locate all the debris, and urged people not to move any wreckage they found, pending the arrival of officials from the National Transportation Safety Board.

Used to fly UA.so glad they decided not to drop me.
had a friend years ago that was a facility manager at a warehouse directly east of the E/W runway approach at the old denver airport. they collected a lot of plane hardware off the roof every month.
Yeah, but that was before they started weighing us during our appearance checks in the crew room. Just the threat of being weighed in front of everyone will miraculously slap the fat right off a flight attendant's ass.
at my age, there is literally nothing you could do or say that would wreck any of my stewardess fantasies.
No one injured on the ground or in the plane, good luck all around.
Talk about a miracle! Jet-A and exploding airplane parts usually don't make for a happy ending.
Was relaxing on the shore of a lake in Denver and watched two planes collide and fall into it. Swam out till I couldn't swim anymore. Ran out of energy and didn't save anybody. Barely made it back to shore.
Still a hero in my book.
was that north denver in the 90's?
Yeah, 80's/90's. Based in Houston, but sat reserve more than once in Denver.
Kudos to the pilots for landing safely.
How many Senators were on board?
... not enough.
*note* - it's Broomfield, not Bloomfield as stated in the article. I lived in the neighboring city.
here is phone video taken by a passenger of the engine still trying to rotate and burn
Holy shit!
Oh man, that would scare the hell out of you.
here's a few other shots.
The pilot sounded cool as a cucumber. Grace under fire.
These UA flight is just another good reason to never leave home without your 'chute.
