Marjorie Taylor-Greene Antagonizes Democratic Colleague With Anti-Transgender Sign

Dominique Mosbergen ·Senior Reporter, HuffPost Thu, February 25, 2021, 12:16 AM Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-Ga.) mocked her neighbor at the U.S. Capitol — Rep. Marie Newman (D-Ill.) — by erecting an anti-transgender sign outside her office on Wednesday.

Newman, whose daughter is transgender, is an advocate of theEquality Act, a bill that wouldban discriminationagainst people based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The House is expected to vote on the bill this week.

In a video posted to Twitter, Taylor-Greene, a QAnon supporter who wasstripped of her House committee assignmentsearlier this month over her bigotry and conspiracy-mongering, can be seen putting up the anti-transgender sign before smiling and dusting off her hands:

Taylor-Greene posted the video in response to a clip that was shared by Newman earlier on Wednesday. In that video, Newman was recorded hanging a transgender flag outside her office before clapping her hands together as if dusting them off.

Taylor-Greene “tried to block the Equality Act because she believes prohibiting discrimination against trans Americans is ‘disgusting, immoral, and evil,’” Newman wrote, quoting the Georgia congresswoman’scommentsfrom earlier this week.

“Thought we’d put up our Transgender flag so she can look at it every time she opens her door,” Newman added.

On Tuesday, Newman stood before her House colleagues to express her support for the Equality Act:

Responding to Newman’s tweet, Taylor-Greene referred to the congresswoman’s daughter as her “biological son.”

“As mothers, we all love and support our children. But your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams,” Taylor-Greenewrote.

The Equality Act would amend and extend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in a number of ways. It would explicitly extend nondiscrimination protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and cover federally funded programs and public spaces like retail stores and banks. The new legislation would also supersede the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which means afloristorbakerwho doesn’t want to provide their services at a same-sex wedding cannot cite religion as a reason to refuse.

In 2019, the Equality Act passed in the House, which was then, as it is now, controlled by Democrats. However, it stalled in the Republican-led Senate. Although the House is expected to pass the bill again, its future in the Senate remains uncertain.

With 50 members and a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Kamala Harris, Democrats control the Senate today — but just barely. The Equality Act will need 60 votes to avoid a legislative filibuster, which means several Republicans will also have to greenlight the bill.

Ok let's talk science.  The covid 19 virus is constantly mutating.  It's evolving.  It does it at an alarming rate because of the low life expectancy and high reproduction capacity of the virus.  People also are mutating.  Evolving.  Changing.  There are never absolutes.  We are all different.  We are all mutants.  Trust the science.

Trust the science.

And go where the evidence leads, not to where you want it to go. jrSmiley_79_smiley_image.gif

In most of America it remains legal to deny housing and jobs to LGTB Americans because federal law does not protect them. That is what is changing...

Leave it to the gop to go right for the potty, again!

“Baby, I was born this way,” Lady Gaga sang in a 2011 hit that quickly became a gay anthem. Indeed, over the past 2 decades, researchers have turned up considerable evidence that homosexuality isn't a lifestyle choice, but is rooted in a person's biology and at least in part determined by genetics. Yet actual “gay genes” have been elusive.

A new study of male twins, scheduled for presentation at the annual meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) in Baltimore, Maryland, today, could help explain that paradox. It finds that epigenetic effects, chemical modifications of the human genome that alter gene activity without changing the DNA sequence, may have a major influence on sexual orientation.

I apologize for being a bit off topic and I'm not being facetious or combative ; I really want to know if I identify with the male gender, does that mean I can go pee in the men's room at a concert? Has anyone seen the lines for the ladies room at a concert? I'd LOVE to be able to walk in, do my business, and get out before 1/2 the show is done.

In all seriousness, I've shared a restroom with m to f transgenders; as long as they don't make a mess on the toilet seat, I don't care. I mean, why should I? I find it  offensive to listen to and smell the aftermath of a bulimic after a huge lunch at the bar (after requesting HR to offer help for her disorder), but certainly not offended by sharing a restroom with a transgender... I don't find sharing space with a transgender offensive whatsoever. They're people too.

The LGBTQ bar I went to had the right idea... they had unisex restrooms! Granted, there weren't enough stalls in any of the restrooms, but I managed to pee in a urinal... the low one anyways. jrSmiley_86_smiley_image.gif When ya gotta go, ya gotta go.

I've used the men's room when I was desparate.

I want people to live as they wish. But I don't want biological males competing in women's sports. They will cost women scholarships and jobs as pro athletes. I doubt there are many f-m transgenders itching to play football

American Football, you might be surprised. There's several women that have tried pushing their way to the NFL with little success. However, I agree with you otherwise.

I have too... back when it was not "okay" to do so.

This is gonna sound sexist, but I'm not very worried about f-m transgenders pushing men out of sports. It could happen, but not very often

No, it's not sexist. It's a matter of the XX vs. XY chromosomes. When born XX, the muscle development and physical strength is not as prevalent and no amount of hormone therapy changes genetics. I'm just saying that women have tried to push their way to the NFL and failed... probably because of the aforementioned difference of genetics.
