Nikki Haley’s Time for Choosing
The 2024 hopeful can’t decide who she wants to be—the leader of a post-Trump GOP or a “friend” to the president who tried to sabotage democracy

This is a long article but well worth the read on someone who history may well dub as an enigma.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Walking out of the White House in the fall of 2018, Haley thought the worst was behind her.

No more briefings on presidential tweets. No more knife-fighting with administration officials. No more worrying that Trump would torpedo her career. Settling back into her beloved South Carolina after a 22-month stint in New York, equipped with a big boat and a luxury home and $200,000 speaking gigs galore, Haley counted her winnings. Joining the Trump administration had been a massive gamble, and she hit the jackpot—not merely emerging unscathed from a gauntlet that maimed many of her contemporaries, but looking all the smarter and sturdier for it. She had gained rare foreign policy experience, nailed the role of adult in the room and raised her visibility in front of donors and voters alike. Her political future wasn’t just intact; it was brighter than ever before.

But there is no expiration date on a Faustian bargain. Haley knew from the moment she agreed to work for Trump, a man whose character she had lampooned mercilessly during his run for president, that she would never be rid of him. She knew that the scars of her own life story—from watching her immigrant family ridiculed, to being called a “raghead” by a fellow state lawmaker, to burying nine Black parishioners who were slaughtered by a white supremacist inside their Charleston church—were perpetually at risk of being ripped open by the president she allied herself with.

“Haley is in the same position as all these other Republicans who jumped on the Trump Train,” said Chip Felkel, a longtime South Carolina GOP strategist. “Some of this shit, you can never get clean from it. People will remember.”

Nikki may need to sweep the Alzheimer's crowd, she's teetering on the edge of memories.

she's fucking delusional if she thinks she'd ever be at the top of the GOP ticket after dissing trump.

We all live in the era of 5 minute news cycles, 2024 is a long time from now ... distance makes the heart grow fonder.

I think if she comes out as the smart Nicki we think she is, she can rise to the top. I like her.

She's about the only thing I would consider voting for that prints an "R" by her name these days.  She's got a long way to go though to get all the trump stink off.  If she tries to do the chameleon thing in coming out to support Trump.... stick a fork in her.

I agree.

I have nothing against voting for a Republican. If McCain hadn't picked Ditzy Sarah as his running mate he might have received my vote. I wish my governor could run again.

Was going to vote for him up until he selected Caribou Barbie as a running mate...

Care to give us the Cliff notes version after this one?

I just spent some money on a nice wall TV.  I'd hate to end up throwing a brick through it just because of the unending lies uttered by the second emanating from the speakers at the conference.

Save the TV and go buy a cheap B&W 17 inch that you won't care if you throw a brick at it

She'll be just fine. She will ask for and receive forgiveness for her sins. Most people of good faith favor redemption and granting second chances. Trump tweeted and blathered his way out the job, but if it hadn't been for Covid, he would have been easily elected.

Good article,

First, she wasn't for Trump, then she was and a month or so ago she wasn't but then wanted a meeting with Trump which he turned down.

I guess all I can say is ''which way is the wind blowing''.

Yes, she's waffled so much it would be difficult to support her in an election. She would have to clearly state her policy and stick to it. At that point one schism or the other would oppose her.

Nikki missed the boat a long time ago when she stayed in the party of privilege's and later when she demanded the Stars and Bars removed from state edifices without ever coming to terms as to the reason and why?

As the days grow longer, memories will grow shorter. Nikki will be a force to contend with and especially if 2024 serves up Haley vs. Harris. In many ways they both tick off the same boxes.

Nikki a force to contend with?  Not sure.  The company she's kept these past few years may end up a stain and not an asset.

And for some----------------let us wait and see what transpires from the Khashoggi murder.  Sometimes the company/support one gives becomes the Sword of Damocles.

Don't count her out. Right now she is testing the waters, Trump's chances of being reelected are nil. He pissed off too many people on both sides.

The support for Biden and the Democrat party is razor thin, and will evaporate if the Dems don't quit screwing up. The vote was against Trump and his tactics, not for the left wing agenda.

The American people's priorities right now is getting their Covid shot, getting their jobs back, if possible, getting their kids back in school, getting back a sense of normalcy in their lives.

The people don't really care about the whining's of boys pretending to be girls, but are concerned with all the super spreaders being let loose to wander the country.

Yeah she's testing the waters.  I have a feeling that there are ( things ) on the horizon that could greatly diminish ( people's ) political standing because of their perceived or actual association with ( some ) people in their past.

Of course she denounced the Khashoggi murder, Hayley isn't that stupid.

But----------------we will see what comes out of this.  Best case scenario is nothing.  Worst case scenario is---------would never want to be the person or persons caught within a political mile of those involved or had foreknowledge.  I am speaking of American citizens here.  Talk about political suicide to the factor of the 10th power.
