Offensive lineman Jalin Barnett commits to Nebraska

LINCOLN The highest-rated commit in Nebraskas 2015 recruiting class isnt exactly a late bloomer.

When Jalin Barnett s grandma Charlotte asked Lawton High School coach Randy Breeze for size-14 cleats, Barnett wasnt even in high school yet. Now?

Well, Barnetts shoe size may become one of those stories that grow with time. Breeze said Barnett, an offensive lineman, wears size 18 the same as NBA star Dwight Howard. Which is giant.

As is Barnett. Hes 6-foot-4, 303 pounds. An Under Armour All-American, unanimous four-star and a top-100 prospect according to ESPN and 247Sports, hes also a big recruiting whale landed for new NU coach Mike Riley and offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh.

On his Hudl video, Barnett, who has started since his freshman year, unloads something close to carnage against opponents in Oklahomas Class 6A, the largest class in the state. At the 44-second mark, he drives a tackle 8 yards off the ball, then topples over him head first. After several blocks, he sits on top of the defender.

A couple SEC coaches came and said, Now that weve seen him, he could start for us tomorrow, and hell have a long career in the NFL, Breeze said.

Barnett became the third offensive line commit in the 2015 class, joining Omaha North guardMichael Deckerand offensive tackle prospectChristian Gaylord, who is from Baldwin City, Kansas. Barnett is ESPNs No. 1 guard prospect nationally and No. 43 prospect overall. 247Sports rates him as the No. 6 guard and No. 68 overall. Rivals rates him as the No. 7 guard and No. 136 overall prospect. Scout rates him as the No. 14 guard and No. 251 overall prospect.

NU has two commits for the 2016 class, as well, inBryan BrokopandJohn Raridon, an offensive guard prospect from West Des Moines Valley who is also a top-100 prospect.
