Most Americans pessimistic about next 12 months: poll
Americans are growing more negative about the track the country is on, according to a new poll.

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Americans are growing more negative about the track the country is on, according to a new poll.

More than half of those surveyed in the ABC News/Ipsos poll published Sunday, or 55 percent, said they are pessimistic about the direction of the country. In May, 36 percent indicated the same thing.

Forty-five percent of respondents now report feeling optimistic about the way things are going in the United States. Almost two in three - 64 percent -- agreed in the May survey, however.

Optimism is currently down about 20 points among Democrats and Republicans, pollsters found, and down 26 points among independents.

Overall, more than 6 in 10 respondents, or 63 percent, approve of  President Biden 's response to the pandemic.

With regards to the Delta variant of the coronavirus sweeping through the nation, mainly among unvaccinated Americans, about 6 in 10 also indicated they are concerned, with 20 percent saying they are "very" and 42 percent saying they are "somewhat" concerned that they or someone they know will become infected.

Biden has spent the last several days pleading with unvaccinated Americans to receive a shot, and called out bad actors on the internet who are pushing false or misleading claims about vaccines.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted from July 23-24, among 527 adults. It has a margin of error of 5.0 percentage points.

Try and remember:

1. No direct or indirect derogatory references to other members

A derogatory reference is a negative statement about another member. Often this is called a personal attack. The best way to avoid a derogatory reference is to not make an uncomplimentary personal comment or include an insulting label. Basically, address issues and arguments, not individual members.

It's not really about me.

Optimism was at record highs after Biden was inaugurated, the only reason that optimism is shrinking slightly is because of the millions of dip shits and nit wits who are refusing to get vaccinated thus we have seen a new surge in Covid cases nationwide and some States are discussing reinstating mask mandates and limiting groups sizes and lowering capacity at restaurants. We have more than enough vaccines for every single eligible American to get vaccinated, those holding out because they're so fucking stupid that they think they know more than immunologists are hurting our nation both physically and fiscally. It's no surprise who the majority of hold-outs are.

So, in other words, Biden is only being graded on his handling of the pandemic?  AKA wishful thinking.

Defunding the police, CRT, blanket amnesty for illegal aliens, all are losing issues for them, but not to worry, they won't begin to realize it until the Democratic Party performs its own autopsy after the midterms.

That's the highest number in the past 12 years, according to the latest poll from PBS Newshour/NPR/Marist, although it's still a minority of Americans.

That the President's party usually loses seats, and we all know Democrats really can't afford any losses at all with their razor-thin majority because the GOP will undoubtedly pick up a few seats because some red states are picking up additional seats, and because the GOP controls the most states.

I am pessimistic about the direction of the country, but what does that mean? I understand that everyone's view of the direction of the country is colored by factors which they personally hold to be important to them. Some of these may or may not be related to the president and the job he is doing. In my personal case, I see the resurgence of the pandemic as a reason to be pessimistic because the tools to control the pandemic have been poo-pooed by a large section of American society to the point where the very items that can stop the pandemic will not be used by the very people who need to use them, all at the behest of foolish and incompetent personalities. I do not blame anybody but the people who would not get behind the messaging campaign from the start.  I am also feeling less optimistic because these same tired and worn out demagogues are the ones who are threatening us with continued rule via the most transparent of lies. But really , the thing that makes me the most pessimistic, is the fact that at around a quarter to a third of our populace is capable of believing these utter falsehoods told by known liars and charlatans such as Tucker Carlson and the POS Trump.

Now, you could have posted the results of the poll and asked what the other members of the forum thought about them. Or, possibly given some thoughts on why you felt less than optimistic about the next twelve months. But, no. To you, the only important thing about the poll is that Americans are feeling less optimistic than they did in a prior poll. Then you magically transfer all of that into the smug and somewhat foolish reading of - since they feel less optimistic, it must be because Biden is doing a poor job and what else could you expect of poor, old Joe: Hence, your comment in 1.1 ," Gee, what a shock!"

It would be quite amusing to have an actual discussion on a website that is supposed to be all about discussion, but as shown by you, is really only about advancing one's own viewpoint at the disparagement of others who may not be of like mind.

Here is a link to the actual poll , which The Hill did not even post a link to.

I do not blame anybody but the people who would not get behind the messaging campaign from the start.

The start being where?  When the pasndemic hit?  Then Biden & Harris sent some bad messaging. If the statr point is the Biden presidency, then you have some mixed signals. You have a vaccinated Biden wearing a mask for months. That had people wondering. However, the messaging won't matter come election time. If there is a resurgence with new restrictions, then as TiG pointed out last year, the administration typically gets the blame. The only consolation may be that Biden is likely to be a one term president and Harris has such low numbers with democrats that she'll likely be primaried.
