KATHY GRIFFIN REVEALS LUNG CANCER DIAGNOSIS: After mostly keeping out of the spotlight since her controversial photo shoot with a depiction of then-Pres. Trump, the comedienne opened up about her drug addiction and cancer diagnosis - the co-hosts discuss. https://t.co/LRxaWZYgropic.twitter.com/t4LV6mKEGy

On her last Monday as co-host of The View , Meghan McCain had quite a few untimely and unkind words to share about comedian Kathy Griffin. The ladies were discussing Griffin's recent interview about her lung cancer diagnosis and battles with addiction as a part of Hot Topics, and while most of them only had words of support, McCain couldn't get beyond some of the comedian's past actions. But instead of holding her tongue in wake of the bad news, McCain let it all rip, tearing into Griffin and going so far as to compare her to ISIS.
While co-hosts Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines denounced "the hyperdrive of cancel culture" that stalked Griffin after she posed for a controversial image with Trump's decapitated head, McCain disagreed, slamming the comedian over her mistake. First, though, McCain did make it clear that she was empathetic towards Griffin's struggles.
"I just want to say it's terrible and very scary to be diagnosed with cancer. It's very tragic to hear of her having an opioid addiction. Both things have hit my family very hard, and it's just horrific to go through as someone who's a bystander, let alone going through it yourself," McCain said. "My heart goes out to her in that way, and I hope for a very speedy recovery."

But the co-host didn't waste any time getting to her many, many criticisms of Griffin right after her words of support. On the matter of Griffin's cancellation, McCain attempted to call hypocrisy, saying that if the roles were reversed and a conservative star held up a liberal politician's head, The View hosts would have "a lot less reticent to have forgiveness."
"It's so graphic that we can't actually show it on the show," McCain said. "I just wonder if this show would have the same reaction if a conservative host or conservative comedian had held up a head of Vice President Harris, President Obama, President Biden."
And that wasn't all McCain had to get off her mind. Yes, just hours after Griffin's tragic announcement, McCain ripped Griffin for more drama that happened ages ago regarding Clay Aiken. For example: over a decade ago, before Aiken came out as gay, Griffin mocked him with the nickname of "Gayken."
"She made very, very, very cruel and homophobic jokes about him before he was out of the closet," McCain said. "I think he's lucky he didn't become an opioid addict, given the degree of bullying that happened to him when he was still struggling to come out of the closet."
Then, McCain called for Griffin to apologize for her hurtful jokes, saying she'll always hold a grudge against the comedian.
"I would love to hear an apology, if she's doing this kind of soul-searching, for what could've happened with my good friend," McCain said. I don't like her, I'm never going to like her for all the jokes she made about Clay."
McCain had a real kicker of an argument to round out her segment. She made her stance clear by likening Griffin to a terrorist organization, a firm statement that felt completely out of left field: "And I don't like her because I don't like seeing severed heads of anyone, any place, because it reminds me of what ISIS does to our soldiers."
Woof. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg closed the segment out after McCain's divisive take, immediately shutting down a handful of the co-host's arguments.
"For me, I think it was a really bad misstep. I disagree with you, Meghan, because I think had anyone seen that image of a severed head of someone — wouldn't matter who it was, left or right — I think the response we had initially was, 'This was a bad joke,'" Goldberg said. "I love Kathy Griffin. As a person, I don't want anyone to go through this. I'm sorry she went through this."
The View airs weekdays on ABC at 11/10c. Watch the full segment in the clip above.
I am not a big Kathy Griffin fan. It doesnt have much to do with her politics, I have just never thought she was very funny.
I wouldnt go on a national television show and belittle her on the day she announced she has cancer though.
I'm with you that she wasn't ever very funny. Although I also objected to her political actions.
I think you're spot on here. There is a time and place, and this was neither.
Agree, not a good comic at all IMO and her D-list show proved ANYONE can get a reality TV show. And as you and Jack_TX said, right time and place for everything.
Megan McCain will either have a podcast or a You Tube channel/show, or both. She can do it from her house. And I think she will be happy with that , and all her money.
As long as it's not an only fans account...
I agree as well. Very very bad form on McCain's part to do what she did to Griffin on national television! I also do not care for Kathy Griffin as a comedian but she is still a human being going through a terrible and tough time right now. McCain should have known better no matter what happened in the past.
Yeah, I really can't stand her (Griffin). Yet sometimes it is better just to keep ones mouth shut.
I thought it was cancer that took her dad. She should know better.
Meghan McCain - I don't like that fat loud mouthed know nothing bitch and I never will.
What's to like?
Both need to wear a mask as they have comorbidities that make them susceptible to the Delta variant.

I seem to recall a lot of nooses, hanging effigies, gun sights etc. directed towards Obama from the right.
Same here
Yup, same here
I lean right due to a hip problem.
Hello. I got that injury when I was 23 and doing rodeo (bull riding). I don't deny being old but I could run rings around you. Now papa oscar bravo.
The left did the same thing with Bush Jr.
This has been going on for far too long; and both sides have cranked up the rhetoric.
What did they expect, I wonder, by making this a topic of conversation on the show? Just express sympathy and move on? Or was this supposed to be a discussion just about cancer? Was the group not supposed to discuss anything else about Kathy Griffin? Isn’t this what they do? Someone is in the news for some reason and then it becomes a whole discussion about them, right?
Just wondering what the rules of discussion were. Wide ranging discussions certainly shouldn’t seem unusual to members of NT.
I hope her surgery/treatment goes well and she fully recovers. I prefer not to wish physical harm or death on anyone or even mock someone's physical/mental issues. Which makes me a rarity on NT. I like being odd.
I disagree that only a minority (rarity) of NT members prefer to not wish harm/death on anyone or to mock their issues. I would say a minority engages in that practice, not the majority.
I must be on a different NT.
Or focusing too much on the outliers.
I'll start making a list and let you decide if they are outliers.
And the point or purpose of Megan McCain would be what?
People actually still watch the view...That show should have died a horrible death a long time ago.
I know, their demographic has to be really fk'd in the head.
I'm sure a few people here watch it every day ....
I can't even bear watching clips most of the time. I know I lean Liberal yet that Joy is no Joy.
I can't stand her.
Well, I'm usually somewhere where there is no TV so I don't watch it, either. If I do happen to catch it at the place where I get my eyebrows done, I start playing games on my phone. I really can't stand when people talk over each other
LOL!
cute
My late wife at one time really liked Whoopie. Pretty sure she would think a lot differently if she were still alive. My wife really did not like the view and likened it to a bunch of teenagers competing and vying for popularity and attention!
I dont watch the view, but will occasionally look at a you tube clip of it if something interesting happened.
I do believe though that The View still dominates daytime ratings for its time period.
They get roughly the same size audience that Tucker Carlson does and he is considered the king of cable news.
RATINGS: During the 1st Quarter 2021, ABC's THE VIEW Ranks No. 1 in Households and Total Viewers (broadwayworld.com)
I never would have guessed. To each their own I suppose.
When they are discussing a political topic or something that is in the news its no different than any other panel show where the hosts give their opinions. I dont watch the celebrity interviews or the female chit chat.
I know this is a little sexist, sorry bout that.
This is what it reminds me of though.
I dont know about that. I think thats more of a stereotype than a reality.
I don't watch it as I want to remember Goldberg as a great actress.
Same. I want to remember her as a great comedienne.
She is definitely both.
Kathy Griffin is a D list entertainer at best but is most definitely an A list bitch.
So she has that going for her .....
Speaking of bitches . . . whiny little bitches . . . .
Which Meghan McCain is also . . . fat too. . . and doesn't know dick.
She knows more dick than a hooker outside of a ship on leave.
The spirit of Meghan’s dad whispered in her ear “tell them you like comedians that don’t get cancer”.
Rather refreshing that Mc Cain didn't back down, she didn't like Griffin before she had cancer, so no reason to change her opinion of her.
