Four people were injured Wednesday in a shooting at a high school in Texas, and three were taken to the hospital, police said.

The shooting happened in Arlington on the second floor of Timberview High School, said Kevin Kolbye, assistant chief of Arlington police. Officers received calls of a shooting around 9:15 a.m., he said.
"More than two or three shots" were fired, and at least two people had gunshot injuries, Kolbye said. Two victims who were shot were expected to remain in the hospital. One was in the intensive care unit, Kolbye said. A third who may have been grazed by a bullet is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday, he added.
Timothy George Simpkins, an 18-year old student, was in police custody Wednesday afternoon, Kolbye said. Simpkins contacted an attorney and then turned himself in with the attorney, Kolbye added.
Kolbye said Simpkins is expected to be charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Officers suspect the shooting happened when a student "got into a fight and drew a weapon," Kolbye said, adding the incident was "not a random act of violence."

One of the injured was "an older person that may be a teacher," Kolbye said. A pregnant woman may have fallen during the incident and received medical treatment, he said. The woman did not go to the hospital, he said.
Abbott, appearing at an unrelated news conference at the U.S.-Mexico border, said, "We grieve for everyone who's been harmed or impacted by this in anyway whatsoever."
Officers could not say how the student got a gun into the building. Kolbye said the gun police believe was used was recovered on the street in nearby Grand Prairie. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is expected to run ballistics on the weapon, Kolybe said.
"Be having the victims in your thoughts in prayers," Aaron said.
Students and staff were initially locked in their classrooms and offices, but the building was given the "all clear" late Wednesday morning, the Mansfield Independent School District said in a statement. Kolybe said all students had been evacuated as of Wednesday afternoon.

Arlington police said they were working closely with the Mansfield Police Department, the Mansfield Independent School District Police Department, the Grand Prairie Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The school district was setting up a parent reunification point nearby, police confirmed on Twitter.
More than 1,800 students attend Timberview High School.
The incident is the latest shooting in a school since the beginning of the school year. Several schools, finally back to in-person instruction after more than a year of remote learning, have locked down in recent weeks because of shootings, striking panic among students, staff and parents.

A gun is always the best way to solve disputes.
Another day, another shooting. Remember this is America.
So is the solution to let every student carry a gun?
Perhaps a better solution would be to look for underlying issues on why this action occurs. If we can understand the why perhaps we can prevent the occurrence.
I think we all kinda know why it occurs. In kids anyway.
Imo what would be required would be to zero in on certain people. Then of course we get into the privacy issues if not basically targeting.
School environments can be stressful for some people. Being bullied, made fun of etc.
We seem to focus on the one being bullied or somewhat persecuted and never do anything about the perpetrators themselves.
Kids can be cruel. Add someone that is not really stable to begin with...
I don't know. The last time I was in a school was the high school to bring my Nephew home to take a shit. He said he couldn't go in the school bathroom because you would get harassed, people throwing things over the stall, sticking their phones under, etc.
Oh, hell, the people on here think bullying is no problem, that kids should just suck it up and learn how to deal with it. Makes you tougher and all that other bullshit.
Bullies need to be corralled and given punishment.
But bullying has been around for a lot longer than these incidents have been going on. I worry that people are too quick to jump to one cause and look to solve the issue with fixing that one problem and it's much larger than just a single issue. We know that in some people, certain medications can enhance feelings of violence. We know bullying exists (and you are correct, seldom is the bully handled until it gets out of hand like this). We know that there are many many guns in society. We know that many legal owners are terrible with securing their weapons. We know that many children just don't know what a gun can really do as their experience with guns outside of maybe going out to a deserted area to fire a few rounds, is what they see on TV and in the Movies. And I'm confident there are other issues that I have not listed.
We know a lot of these pieces but we can't seem to find the will to look at them in a holistic manner. IMO this is a very large and complex issue that is going to take many years to start to make an improvement. But I feel that until we start to look at why some people's first instinct is to reach for a gun, we will never improve on this situation.
At least this time, a coward won't get the chance to take his own life as they usually do.
Yeah...because that's a sure fire way to stop school shootings....
That response has become a meme.
I think Biden should put Kamala Harris in charge of finding the root causes of shootings in school. She has been so successful in all of the other things she has been put in charge of finding the root cause. s/
