"I do not believe the city has the authority to mandate that to anybody, let alone that information about your medical history," Catanzara said.
The head of the Chicago police officers union has urged members to defy the city's COVID-19 vaccine requirement.
In a video first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara told members not to enter information in the city's vaccine portal ahead of a deadline on Friday.
"I do not believe the city has the authority to mandate that to anybody, let alone that information about your medical history," he said.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot's administration has ordered all city workers to submit COVID-19 vaccine information into an online portal by Friday.
Those who aren't vaccinated will either have to be tested for COVID-19 semiweekly or be placed on unpaid leave, the Associated Press reported.
This isn't the first time Catanzara has spoken out about vaccines - in August he compared vaccine mandates to something that would happen in Nazi Germany.
His comments come after data revealed this week that COVID-19 is the leading cause of death among police officers in the US.

The police union head says half the citys police will be off the job by the weekend if the mandate is enforced.
So now we see that extremist politically conservative cops will endanger the city in order to make a political point.
No one on earth can convince me that all these cops are refusing the vaccine simple because they are unconvinced it is safe. This is all about anti Biden and anti Democrat activism by cops.
You think the head of the Chicago police union is a conservative? Where the hell did you get that from? Do you have any proof? Is it because he is anti vaccine mandate- and therefor has to be a conservative?
Maybe if Lightfoot and the Democrats hadn't declared war on the police there wouldn't be all this friction? No, that couldn't have anything to do with it.
As for putting Chicago in danger- Democrats have been doing that for a very long time. Seems the police are no longer willing to put up with their shit.

I have to wonder what the hell is wrong with people? There's a deadly pandemic going on. Getting vaccinated is a good and smart idea, as is mandating it to better ensure individual and public safety and health. The vaccine is effective and safe. So getting it should be a no brainer. But unfortunately, some people are apparently too stupid and too inconsiderate to understand that.
