Riley Gaines shreds Biden promise to veto bill protecting women's sports: 'Catering to a radical minority'
Former All-American swimmer Riley Gaines ripped President Biden over his promise to veto a bill preventing biological males from participating in women's sports.

Former Olympic gold medal swimmer Donna de Varona explains the need for a 'reasonable way' to allow all people to compete in sports while protecting fairness and safety in women's divisions.

Riley Gaines, a former All-American swimmer from the University of Kentucky, didn't hold back when reacting to President Biden's promise to veto a bill that would prevent biological males from participating in women's sports.

Speaking with Fox News Digital on Monday just hours after the White House released a statement slamming the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, or H.R. 734, Gaines said Biden's veto promise was evidence he was putting a "radical minority" ahead of women across the country.

"The President has declared that science, truth, and common sense no longer matter. In opposing this bill, President Biden is catering to a radical minority at the expense of women, who are 51% of the population," Gaines said.

"Equal opportunity, privacy, and safety in our sports shouldn't be controversial. The women who once advocated for Title IX should be outraged as this goes against everything they fought for. Female athletes of all ages, levels, and sports deserve better," she added.

H.R. 734 has not yet been passed by Congress, but is expected to come to a vote on the floor of the House of Representatives sometime this week.

In a statement, the White House said it "strongly opposes" the bill on the grounds that it would "deny access to sports for many families by establishing an absolute ban on transgender students."

Members of the House of Representatives participate in the vote for Speaker on the first day of the 118th Congress in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol Building on January 03, 2023, in Washington, DC.(Win McNamee/Getty Images)

It went on to call the bill "discriminatory," claimed such a law was "unnecessary," and that it "hurts families and students."

As part of the bill, educational institutions that receive Title IX funding from the federal government would not be allowed to "permit a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designed for women or girls."

The bill says that the sex of an athlete would be recognized only by their "reproductive biology and genetics at birth." The legislation would allow transgender female athletes to train or practice in a girls' athletic program, but only if no biological female athlete is deprived of a roster spot.

Democrats have made it clear that most or all of them will oppose the bill on the floor. The House Education and Workforce Committee approved the legislation in a 25-17 vote — every Republican voted for it, and only Democrats voted against it.

As it's become more socially acceptable to be "out" there are a lot of people finding out that their friends, co-workers and family members are part of the LGBTQ+ community. This shows them that not only are they not a danger to society, they are worthy of love and respect. Rational thinking people also stand against oppression of a minority group.

Democrats have to keep that culture war money flowing in.

As soon as gay marriage was won, suddenly the T got added.  Getting men to play in women's sports and sterilizing minors became the new cause.

If they normalize mutilating children, what comes next?

It will never end, that's for sure. If they get everything they want and  it becomes perfectly legal everywhere for states to kidnap kids and subject them to transitioning surgery without parental consent, some other norm that we currently  take for granted will become the new discrimination worse than the Nazis ever dreamed of doing, that's for sure.

It's disturbing to know that so many people now believe that it is OK to genitally mutilate children.

I remember a time ... not long ago ... when people of both political parties were appalled to learn that Islamic radicals genitally mutilated young girls. Even Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, Nancy Pelosi, Michelle Obama, and many other "feminists" (including Hollywood entertainers) vociferously spoke out against such atrocities. Where are they today, and why are they radio silent about THIS mutilation?

It's amazing the number of voters the Dems are willing to lose over their unwavering support for sexually confused males with emotional problems...who comprise less than 1% of the population.

When trans folk get upset about lesbians being in a pride parade, you know they're all fucked up. This is not about being against gay, bi, or lesbian people, it's the harm they are doing to young children. I suspect that a large percentage of women with daughters are not particularly happy with the direction the Democrat party is going.

We are talking about people who've transitioned from men to women competing.

You're talking about people taking unfair advantage.  There is absolutely no sane defense of letting people born male play women's sports, or letting people who compete in women's sports while juiced up on testosterone.

It's moronic.

The fact is there are no "men's" divisions in most sports.  There are women's divisions and open divisions, where people of either gender can play if they're good enough.  There has never been a prohibition against women in football, baseball, or any other sport where men compete.

If you're trans, you need to compete in the open divisions.

In some sport they may and in some sports they may not. Then again individually some may and some may not. This should be left up to people who actually know what these advantages are and are not - trained medical & sports medical people. Not partisan asshats.

You seem to have no clue what my politics are. To me this shouldn't be a political issue.

It shouldn't be, but it's absolutely and only a political issue.

Almost everybody who has ever had any involvement in competitive sports thinks the idea that trans athletes playing against women is laughably moronic.  Everybody with any shred of common sense agrees with that assessment.

The level of denial necessary to pretend that men playing women's sports don't have a massive advantage is just staggering.  I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they just don't know anything about sports, but in this case that's not enough of an excuse.  They're either complete morons or determined to pretend that obvious truths don't really exist if they contradict the religion of liberal politics.

Your comments about "sports medical and trans studies" is a great example.

We all know that size and speed are advantages in most sports.  We don't even need to get into bone density, skeletal structure, muscle mass and everything else.  All of that has been accepted as obvious for thousands of years.... until.... it's inconvenient for liberal politics.

We don't need a study to tell us that 250lb linebackers are better than 150lb linebackers or 6'6 inch pitchers throw harder than 5'6" pitchers.  We all see that, and liberals don't care about linebackers, so they don't try to deny the obvious.  But as soon as we introduce a group they think they need to protect, every shred of common sense goes up in smoke obvious things are somehow no longer the case.

Ask yourself what Katy Ledecky, Michael Phelps, Caeleb Dressel, Ryan Murphy, and Missy Franklin all have in common besides medals.  If somebody actually has to explain to you that a 6'4" swimmer has an advantage over a 5'4" swimmer, you don't know anything about swimming and probably don't know anything about other sports, either.  If you don't think strength is a huge advantage, you've never actually watched swimming.... even on television.

Will Thomas was a thoroughly mediocre collegiate swimmer.  After he declared he was female, suddenly he's a national champion.  His times are about the same.

So as a coach, I wonder why we bothered to start women's swimming in the first place.
