McCarthy puts it to Biden
“Debt limit negotiations are an opportunity to examine our nation’s finances,” McCarthy said, later adding: “Defaulting on our debt is not an option, but neither is a future of higher taxes, higher interest rates, more dependency on China and an economy that doesn’t work for working Americans.”

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has sought a discussion over the outrageous federal spending that has led the nation to a federal debt of approximately $31.46 Trillion. For the past few years the federal debt has exceded the national GDP. It is unsustainable, but democrats seem content to keep printing money and devaluing the savings of Americans. About 20% of this debt is owned by another arm of the federal goverment, which is another way of softening the effects. In the meantime, legislaters have been content to simply pay the interest on the debt which is slightly less than $400 Billion per year.

Now the House Republicans are trying to do something about it. They first offered to discuss the issues involved in massive spending, which always results in the last minute move to raise the debt ceiling. Through 80 days, our mentally challenged president has refused to meet with Speaker McCarthy. At first it was "let's see what Republicans want to cut," then it was "let's see them actually pass a bill!"  Well, it happened! McCarthy won a crucial victory by passing a spending bill by the narrowest of margins 217-215 with every democrat in lock step, like programed zombies voting against it.

The bill will die in the Senate where democrats have their tiny majority, but it highlights the attitude of democrats and their radical leaders. It is now clear to every informed voter that it is democrats who do not want to debate the issue. Oh ya, they have been saying just extend the debt ceiling and we'll discuss it after. Just like they once promised the 40th President of the United States that border security would be up for discussion after amnesty.

Our leader is a little limited. He refuses to negotiate, he refuses to do press conferences and sometimes he is rarely seen after 10 AM. At least he announced that he will be a candidate for the 2024 election and if his opponent is not named Trump, the dems are dead. So here we go again.

He's retreated back to his basement where we can expect him to hide for the next 2 years of is run for re-election.

Rare to zero appearances before 10AM and after 4PM, Monday-Friday. Rare to zero appearances on weekends. That's Joe Cool's job!

His (approx) 3 minute announcement was carefully filmed and scripted, and we see that there are less than 5 very short live clips of him speaking to the camera. All of his other "comments" are merely his narration and might very well have had many takes followed by hours of professional editing.

It seems that his handlers are unwilling to put him in front of a live audience to make such an auspicious announcement.

His handlers, one of whom is leaving, have taken elections to a new direction. It now seems that issues and even candidates no longer matter. It's all about party affiliation and getting ballots in boxes.

If you're referring to Susan Rice ... keep your eyes on her. She's very powerful, and IF Biden is re-elected, she could be back in the WH with President Harris (once he either voluntarily retires or they invoke Amendment 25).

If this happens, Obama's behind the scenes "transformation of America" could continue for years.

I think that is the key. Maybe she knows something we don't and it may involve Joe & Hunter Biden.

I do have to give it to McCarthy. I didn't think he'd do it, but he got the votes. As early as Wednesday morning there were multiple members who said they were adamant they wouldn't pass this spending bill. I have to wonder if that closed door meeting yesterday the conversation was something like - It doesn't matter what we have, or don't have, in this bill we all know it won't pass the Senate anyway.

Of course it will die in the Senate.  We all know the Democrats aren't going to do a damn thing about it.  That would mean they have to accept responsibility.

Why is the lack of bi-partisanship and cross isle negotiation the sole responsibility of the Dems? Shouldn't this be one more indictment of the partisanship of both parties? Both parties are responsible for where the debt is now, but you want the Dems to capitulate on their list. Wasn't it 8 Republicans yesterday bitching their spending items had been cut? I know in the end they passed it, but they passed it knowing it was dead in the water already. Perhaps the Senate could start with a list of all the Republican wish lists and they can pass it by reconciliation. That means everyone gets fucked.

It's not, normally.  But when Biden refuses to negotiate, it is.

Maybe cutting spending at the same time they cut taxes for the rich would have been a good idea.  You know, when they had control of the White House.  Now it's gonna be a lot harder for them.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed into law Dec. 22, 2017.  You and I get to enjoy a couple more years of these lower taxes before they expire.  For the rich they're permanent tax cuts.  At the time there was no talk about spending cuts though.  I guess when you have control of all houses you can even spend money that you just gave to a bunch of a holes who don't even need it.

What the Republicans should do is go along and just get this done now....which is what is going to happen anyway. They can continue to make symbolic gestures of moderation, but they don't have the numbers to get anything done.

What they SHOULD do going forward is concentrate ALL their energies on WINNING elections...meaning BOTH Houses of Congress AND the presidency.

Only then can they things done. But I doubt that they have the balls or the brains to do what must be done to rid us the pesky Democrats once and for all.

Doesn't everyone recognize that Biden is out of the loop?  Raising the debt limit is now the work of Congress.  The House has done its part and passed a bill to address the debt limit.  Now it's up to the Senate.

McCarthy is wasting his time trying to negotiate with Biden.  That's not going to happen.  Biden has built his 50 year political career on deliberately starting dog fights so he can stand back and bad mouth the fighting dogs.

Biden is just heckling from the peanut gallery.  That's how Biden politically insulates himself.  By standing on the sidelines Biden can blame both Republicans and Democrats without getting into the game.  The debt limit is Schumer's problem and not Biden's.  Biden won't be negotiating with Chuck Schumer, either.

Yes, that is Biden's modus operandi.  Biden encourages fringe positions to start a big fight and then steps in to sound like a moderate alternative.  That's a common tactic for those who aren't in charge.  That's why it's necessary to hide Biden from the press.  Biden only starts big fights; Biden isn't in the fight and Biden won't finish a fight he encouraged.

The ball is now in Biden's handlers' court!

And this creates a paradox for Chuck Schumer. He will need 60 votes to approve a clean debt limit increase for the measure to clear the chamber.

The clean debt limit increase means extend the debt limit without any spending restrictions. The dems promise to discuss spending later....scout's honor!

I see that Biden has finally invited the top four congressional leadership, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and McCarthy, to the White House to discuss the debt ceiling.  But he still states that the discussion is to discuss the need for a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling.

Janet Yellen has stated today that the US could default on it's debt by June 1 which is only a month away.  Wonder where this meeting will go and  how close we get to the end of the month before somebody blinks.
