Biden classified documents probe shows few signs of ending soon: report

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

While former President   Donald Trump has been indicted   for allegedly mishandling classified White House documents, the federal probe into President Biden’s own handling of classified materials is not close to being wrapped up, according to a report.

Biden has not yet been interviewed by special counsel Robert Hur, who is investigating his handling of the classified material that was found at his Delaware home and private DC office, three people familiar with the matter   told NBC News .

The president’s advisers have determined he would provide an interview once his legal team and the Justice Department agree on the conditions, the sources told the news outlet.

In February,   Biden dismissed the materials   found at his property as simply “stray papers” that ended up there because of careless aides who packed up his White House office over a decade ago.

He argued that, unlike Trump, “no one has had to threaten to do anything” and that he didn’t have the documents “laid out” on the floor, with “top secret code word and all the rest” – a reference to the infamous FBI photograph of Trump’s classified White House papers at his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Biden has said he was “cooperating fully and completely” with the Justice Department probe.

A spokesperson for Biden’s personal attorney, Bob Bauer, declined to comment to NBC News about its report.

The White House also declined to comment and referred questions to the Justice Department.

A rep for Hur also declined to comment to NBC News.

The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Friday morning.

Biden’s scandal was triggered by the discovery of at least a dozen classified documents at the Penn Biden Center in November, which the White House had kept under wraps through the 2022 midterm elections and beyond.

The National Archives was blocked from informing the public about the initial discovery of classified documents by either the White House or the Department of Justice, a source previously confirmed to The Post.

News about the slow pace of the Biden probe comes as Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury Thursday over his alleged mishandling of classified White House materials and allegations that he tried to obstruct the government’s attempts to retrieve them.

He faces seven charges that carry a maximum 75-year prison sentence if convicted on all counts.

The charges include: willfully retaining the national defense documents, conspiring to obstruct justice, withholding the documents, corruptly concealing the records, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheming to conceal, and making false statements, sources  told ABC News.

All seven charges “break out from an Espionage Act charge,” his lawyer Jim Trusty  confirmed to CNN.

Trump has claimed he  declassified everything that came from the White House , adding that a president has the authority to declassify material “even by thinking about it.”

The 45 th   president lashed out about the indictment on his Truth Social account Thursday.

“The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax,” Trump wrote in his post, in which he assailed Biden’s handling of classified material.

“The Biden-appointed Special Counsel has INDICTED me in yet another witch hunt regarding documents that I had the RIGHT to declassify as President of the United States,” he wrote.

“I’m an innocent person,” Trump added. “I did nothing wrong. And we will fight this out just like we’ve been fighting for seven years. It would be wonderful if we could devote our full time to making America great again.”

The president’s advisers have determined he would provide an interview once his legal team and the Justice Department agree on the conditions, the sources told the news outlet.

Biden’s scandal was triggered by the discovery of at least a dozen classified documents at the Penn Biden Center in November, which the White House had kept under wraps through the 2022 midterm elections and beyond.  (Trying to figure out how keeping it under wraps through an election period is considered as "turning over immediately")

Not to forget the other documents found in his storage room of his garage - oh, and the searching President Biden's Wilmington, Del., residence where they found more classified documents.

Some of the items date back to Biden's time as a a senator, while others were from his time as vice president, said Biden's personal attorney, Bob Bauer, announced the extraordinary development in a Saturday night statement. The Justice Department also took some handwritten notes for further review, he said.

White House officials have stressed that Biden is cooperating with the investigation — even as they have repeatedly issued vague, incomplete, and at times misleading public statements about the scope of the probe.

The inquiry began after Biden lawyers found documents in a private office on Nov. 2. They found more documents in his Wilmington garage on Dec. 20, and another in his home on Jan. 11. On Jan. 14, a White House lawyer found additional material.

Documents found in four locations, covering a 40+ year period of being a continued idiot and Biden is still free?????  Oh - the "freedom" must be one of the "conditions" agreed upon.

If people weren't so blinded by partisanship, what they should be looking at is why people are moving documents around in the first place. Seems to be the obvious problem no one wants to address.

The simple fact is Trump could have avoided all of this and had numerous chances to do so by simply returning the boxes of classified papers, he did not. The bigger question is what in the hell was he going to do with the documents? What reason is there to keep them and move them around?

And, seriously???  Damn good question.  Stupidly, he "probably" thought his magnetic personality was going to cow everybody down as he had done in so many cases.

Egomaniac beyond a doubt - but, both were stupid as hell with classified documents.

Trump "hoarded" his at Largo - Biden, over his 40+ years, left them in 4 different locations.  Why did Biden have those documents?  Why did Biden actually think that his 40 years of lying would be forgiven with a "I didn't know they were there" defense?  Four different locations - highly classified materials - 40 years of "hiding stuff".

Big time, bad time decisions and he should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.  Hopefully, the same can be said 'bout Trump - being held accountable.

I don't buy that Trump was that stupid with classified documents, he had his assistant hide some of the documents from his own attornies and the FBI and showed some of them to people with no clearances at all. The question remains why and what did he plan to do with them?

My personal belief is his ego - the "hey look, I still have my power with these documents".  Anything he can/could use to "possibly generate" a feeling of strength for his "supporters".

I personally never liked the man/person.  Some of his policies I did/do agree with, but, unfortunately, he don't know when to shut the futch up or when to quit trying to be the "poster child" for leadership.  This ain't "The Apprentice", but he just can't seem to realize that.

He futched up - but, then again, so has/did Biden - and they both need to be held accountable for their stupid decisions regarding classified documents and how to follow the applicable laws.

Money and power are All Trump ever cares, cared about ! Biden should not have had any documents either, but apparently, many seem to have documents(Pence, Clinton)but where i see the difference is, they cooperated. Why Trump did not will one day be determined, but i sure have my suspicions. With all we have witnessed Trump do, it was not done for me, or you. It is ALWAYS done to benefit Trump in some manner, as thats' how Trump does fly his banner, into a bridge abutment i believe he did this time, lock the Muth Fckr up, for his crime, whence convicted, for he had no convictions, just as a whole lot still defending, but i believe the outcome to prison should be sending, but, rare for someone so high to come back down to earth or be jailed, butt, hopefully Trumps asz will in one mannerism or another, get nailed

That's the tightrope the DOJ is walking.  They have to compare this against the Trump charges and if they give him a free pass then Trump will undoubtedly use that in his own defense.  Will be interesting as it unfolds.

Why do they have to compare? If people want to actually compare, the differences emerge. Such as defying subpoenas, lying about what he had, bragging about what he had, refusing to turn over documents, saying the documents were his etc...

I think whatever they have him on tape talking about is going to play a role as well.

Differences do occur.

The FBI had access to Mar-a-Lago. They knew where the classified documents were. They even had Trump's legal team slap an extra padlock on where they were being stored. Trump was negotiating with the government on what he was going to keep. As president he can declassify any document made during his administration. He also gets access to any document during his administration at any time.

Meanwhile Brandon the Human Fuck Up Machine had no right to any of the documents from his time as VP (unless he made them); and definitely not during his time as a Senator. He kept them in unsecure locations; and lost chain of custody- so who knows who had access to them or saw them.

Then there is the Democrat and leftists want to ignore at any costs. Hildabeast not only illegally had classified documents on her personal server; she used it to send them to other sources; then tried to destroy the server using bleach bit- and took hammers to her cell phones. The very definition of obstruction. No FBI raid on her offices or properties; and no charges by Comey the Establishment POS.

You are correct that there are differences. Brandon and Garland knew he had classified documents well in advance of the raid on Mar-a-Lago. The DOJ/FBI allowed a Brandon hand picked sanitation team (they didn't have clearance to view classified documents) to go through all of his offices and residences to look for more classified documents. No raids. The DOJ/FBI couldn't be bothered.  The sanitation team did a shitty job- as the FBI found still more classified documents when they bothered to look (under the supervision of Brandon's sanitation team of course).

Unlike the raid on Mar-a-Lago where Trump's lawyers were locked out. The FBI took shit that wasn't even closely related to classified documents- like a few of Melania's dresses; and the Trump's passports.  Maybe the FBI wanted to hold a Hoover fashion show? The FBI also made sure to lay out the documents on the floor and take pictures which they leaked to the press.

While the investigation into Brandon's alleged crime is being slow walked by the FBI/DOJ (much like the charges against Hunter) with no damn leaks (who could have thought the US government could do anything w/o a single leak?); Trump's investigation has had nothing but leaks including an alleged audio tape interview of Trump to CNN about Iran invasion classified documents. Trump's investigation has been speed rushed; just like Santos. Maybe one day (once the statute of limitations runs out they will get around to Brandon and Hunter.)

Yes, Trump botched it.  BUT so did Hillary and Biden and yet, we see/saw NOTHING as rigorously dragged through the mud as what Trump is getting - and probably deserves.

Biden has said he was “cooperating fully and completely” with the Justice Department probe.

Cooperation or not, he still mishandled classified material.

Biden’s scandal was triggered by the discovery of at least a dozen classified documents at the Penn Biden Center in November, which the White House had kept under wraps through the 2022 midterm elections and beyond The National Archives was blocked from informing the public about the initial discovery of classified documents by either the White House or the Department of Justice,

That doesn't give the impression of a cover up.

The charges include: willfully retaining the national defense documents, conspiring to obstruct justice, withholding the documents, corruptly concealing the records, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheming to conceal, and making false statements, sources  told ABC News.

Biden needs to pay very close attention to what is happening with the Trump case.  The same could be happening to him the minute he leaves office.

You are ignoring key words in Trump's charges.

willfully retaining the national defense documents

conspiring to obstruct justice

withholding the documents

corruptly concealing the records

concealing a document in a federal investigation

scheming to conceal

making false statements

When you look at those key words, you lose all comparisons between Biden, Pence, and Trump.
