Israel on alert as Iran launches drones, ballistic missiles toward Jewish state
The IDF said Saturday that Iran has launched drones and ballistic missiles toward Israel weeks after a deadly strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

White House says US support for Israel is 'ironclad,' will 'support their defense' amid Iran attack

The White House vowed Saturday that the United States' support for Israel's security is "ironclad," pledging to stand with the Jewish state and "support their defense" after Iran launched an aerial drone attack towards the country Saturday afternoon.

Iran launched drones from its own territory toward Israel late Saturday, days after its Supreme Leader warned it would hit back in response to an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria that left several generals dead.

"Iran has begun an airborne attack against Israel," White House National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said in a statement Saturday. "President Biden is being regularly updated on the situation by his national security team and will meet with them this afternoon at the White House."

The take away from the international crisis noe facing the entire world is that Iran and North Korea are emboldened by the gop surrender monkeys in the American Congress dropping drawers and bending over for Vlad Putin's Russia in The Ukraine. The best path now to stand up to Putin's Axis of Evil with Iran and North Korea is for The USA th Help Ukraine NOW!

This is no time for MAGA Madness...

Everyone can see you entirely avoiding the facts of the matter and that the root cause is Vlad Putin and that the only way to address our current worldwide crisis is by stoplight Putin in Ukraine. Not just us, not only our President, but the Free World! President Biden is not responsible this mess but he is working on it. He is not just bitching, enabling Vlad Putin and blaming The United States of America and our President!

If Biden and Obama hadn't given them the money to do it, is what you should have written.  Iran has no better friend than the last two Democratic Presidents.

Yes.

But let's start with this:

I don't remember all the details but in today's news I read that some crazy in Australia had a knife and attacked a few people in a mall, killed at least one person, seriously wounded a few others (until someone-- I believe it was a security guard-- shot him and stopped the attack). I

Also, of course, a country with a large and powerful military (Iran) attacked Israel. Shooting a large number of drones and some missiles

So let's compare the two. Questions:

1. Which of those two incidents harmed more people?

2. Why?

A lone police woman shot him dead thank goodness..

Not sure what this has to do with Israel and Iran??

Either A- The Iranians are totally incompetent militarily  or

B- It wasn't designed to be militarily effective.

What an asinine statement.  In the US system, the President is the dominant power in foreign relations and he's spent the last month  publicly attacking Israel and signaling a disconnect between  our two countries. He's emboldened Hamas to reject cease fire after cease fire and made himself (and our country) look incredibly weak in the process.

And again, his warning of "don't" was completely ignored by Iran.  As soon as Biden publicly tells a country "don't" do something, be assured they will. It's embarrassing.

This is a result of a weak president that has pandered to Iran by dropping the sanction Trump had in place; and releasing billions of dollars that the US had locked up. In the vain hope Iran would play nice with it's ME neighbors, and stop developing nukes. Brandon was wrong on both accounts.

By the way. you left China, the real threat to the world, off your Axis of evil. Stop listening to Brandon China is not just our "competitor".

Typical Democrat/leftist stuck on Russia, Russia, Russia. Even though Russia has been proven to me no threat to NATO. But keep poking the bear and maybe Putin will use the only thing Russia really has; and the whole world will glow in the dark for centuries.

Iran is so well off it is able to sell Russia drones, munitions, and weapons and still supply their terrorist groups and militias across the ME. Guess whose fault that is?

But it is cute you think Putin, who is beholden to China propping them up economically and militarily now is the leader of the new "axis of evil".

FAST FACTS

  • Israel's military says Iran has launched drones from its own territory toward Israel

  • IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said it will take several hours for the aircraft to arrive

  • The IDF says Israel is "prepared and ready" with defensive and offensive actions

  • The attack comes weeks after Iran blamed Israel for a deadly strike on its consulate in Syria that killed a top commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps' overseas Quds Force

  • The attack mark the first time Iran has launched a full-scale assault on Israel despite more than four decades of hostilities

Full scale assault?

WTF!

They launched a lot of drones and a few missiles.

And unless Netanyahu does something stupid, that's the end of it!

P.S: If it really was a "full scale assault" as you stated-- how come it wasn't accompanied by any Iranian ground attack?

The shortest route from Iran would be to cross Iraq, then Jordan, then Israel.

The point is-- they felt they had to attack Israel-because Israel attacked them:

Iran has launched drones and ballistic missiles toward Israel weeks after a deadly strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

After Israel attacked their consulate (and IIRC killed a high ranking Iranian figure?) they would lose face if they didn't retaliate. They felt they had to retaliate, they had to attack Israel. (Or else be seen as weak-- not a good thing in the Middle east!).

But the problem was-- they knew if they attacked Israel, Israel would attack Iran back-- with great force. And they don't want that.

So what to do?

Well, if they didn't want to start a war with Israel, but they didn't want to be seen as weak (by not attacking)-- the answer was to attack Israel, but make it so they really didn't harm Israel greatly, so there were few casualties.

Yes, shooting drones and missiles. But apparently the drones were mostly for show. Lots of drones, but few missiles.

Because any Iranian ground attack would need to go through several countries; would take several days; would be easily tracked by US and Israeli drones and satellites; and dealt with before it ever reached Israeli soil.

Iran rucked up. It should have stuck to using it's proxies to launch attacks against Israel. Bibi now has carte blanche to retaliate against Iran directly. Not a damn thing Brandon can do to stop them.

The U.S. is on standby for further action by Iran, and from within the region via its proxies, a U.S. official told CBS News.

The U.S. is positioned to be able to shoot down incoming drones from Iran via assets in Iraq and Syria, three U.S. officials told CBS News. The U.S. also has fighter jets that are now on standby.

The U.S. assets above are in addition to Navy destroyer USS Carney staying in the Central Mediterranean to provide additional protection if needed instead of heading West, and the destroyer USS Arleigh Burke remaining in the Eastern Mediterranean where it has been for a while.

The U.S. preference is for the Israeli government to wait and assess the impact of the Iranian reprisal before responding to it. The U.S. preference is for a calibrated response. The expectation is that the Israelis will calibrate based on whether it successfully intercepts Iranian incoming and whether or not there are any casualties.

UN secretary-general condemns Iranian missile attack on Israel

"I strongly condemn the serious escalation represented by the large-scale attack launched on Israel by the   Islamic Republic of Iran   this evening. I call for an immediate cessation of these hostilities," United Nations chief Antonio Guterres said in a statement.

"I am deeply alarmed about the very real danger of a devastating region-wide escalation. I urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East. I have repeatedly stressed that neither the region nor the world can afford another war."

UN Secretary-General Condemns Iranian Missile Attack On Israel

What, now somebody cares what the United Nations has to say? Usually, most of the commentary on NT is about what a feckless waste of money the organization is. Recently, a lot of right-wing hyperbole has been spent on claiming the UN is anti-Israel and pro-arab. The underlying reason for the genesis of the UN and its predecessor the League of Nations was to quell nascent conflicts before they grew into larger conflicts.

Iran wants others to do its dirty work for them..eg Hamas and they are happy to pay for them to do it....

But when it all goes pear shaped and how, they are not seen for dust...and plead "wasn't us" as they throw their hands up in mock horror...

Trouble is Hamas and the Palestinian people are to stupid to realise that as they get pounded into the dirt..and where is Iran?

And that is-- Iran was deliberately avoiding harming the Israelis too much-- because they knew if they did, Israel would counter-attack ferociously! (Look what Israel is doing to Gaza after Hamas' brutal attack on israel).

So Iran had to attack Israel (to show they weren't afraid to retaliate for israeli attack on their consulate), but they also had to do the attack in a way that wouldn't piss the Israelis off.

Then they could have their Falafel-- and eat it to! (To coin a phrase).

Iranian missile and drone attacks were launched at Israel from positions in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen.  Given the varying distances from launch sites and the varying speeds between the missiles and drones, If Iran wanted to overwhelm Israeli AMD, they needed to do a better job of synchronizing the launches.

Perhaps Israel will show them how it is done.

IMO Israel could humiliate Iran by not retaliating, in other words acting as if Israel treated Iran like a fly landing on its arm and brushing it away as if it were meaningless, since Iran's 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles and 100 ballistic missiles accomplished almost nothing.

Ideally yes... But they should use this as a reason to destroy Iran's command and control in yemen, syria, lebonan, gaza etc.

I am not sure Israel has the resources to take on such an initiative.   They are stretched pretty thin right now.   But if they could nullify enemy command and control without triggering more repercussions then that would be sensible.

This is a very complicated business.   Right now, I think Israel needs to focus on Gaza.

Neither of us are war planners, but i am a warrior, and the worst kind. I believe in total war. I believe the enemy should be so completely crushed that they can never present a threat again. Or they know what happens.

To accomplish that, the prevailing force must have the means.   It does not seem to me that Israel is in such a position.

Something we agree on …. 100%.

Have this kind of commitment or don’t go to war.

Period.

CENTCOM was there for Israel, not only our weapon systems but coordinating with Jordan and Europe.  Israel needs to in return, be very selective in what that attack in Iran and only with our permission.

A good target might be their military-industrial infrastructure that manufactures cruise and ballistic missiles.

Absolutely, and since last night was such an Iranian failure, Israel can take a little time to be choosy and prepare a synchronized plan to maximize success.

You served, that’s what is important.

Desert Storm was the only combat operation that I saw.  It’s almost embarrassing to call it combat.  We deployed around 470,000 across all Services and the Britts added 50,000 to face around 300,000 Iraqis in Kuwait.  We lost about the same to non-hostile action while losing less the 150 to combat while killing around 35,000 Iraqi military.

Highway 80 (AKA Highway of Death) was nothing but an air power turkey shoot.  From about 20 miles west of Kuwait City to the border, almost 3,000 vehicles were destroyed.

This short, war taught me the value of endless training and complete preparation.

A very peculiar kind of Islam.

Indonesia, majority Muslim country, was teetering on the  of disaster at the end of the last century.  Corruption, poverty, no history of democracy, the country was ready to split apart.  Now, 25 years later, it is a stable democracy and its economy is growing rapidly.  Smart, energetic people are solving their problems while Iranians are busy creating problems.

A good thing for Israel to do would be not attack Iran but say this causes them to finish with total victory in Gaza. And tell all the protesters Iran caused them to do so.
