Why Are They The Most Hated Celebrities? by Perrie Berlin-Halpern

It seems that each year, there is a list produced of the most hated celebrities. I never knew about this list of infamy... it took my husband to get me hooked up with it. Now I realize that when a person gains the celebritiness that they aimed for, you have to take the good with the bad, but I have to say, that I doubt that included being put on a list like this. I am not sure how one gets on this list, since I seemed to miss the survey. More likely, it's some underpaid junior editor being bitchy. I can picture the frustrated individual, sitting late at night in their office banging away at their computer, thinking "Hey if I can't be famous, I can make them burn", only to return to their 400 square foot studio apartment in Brooklyn.
Now some of these people rub me the wrong way... but hey, what do I know about them? They could be perfectly nice people. They may project a certain something that even they are unaware of, that turns off a lot of people, and probably haven't a clue on how to turn that off. It could have been a rag story about them or it could be some sort of induced mass hysteria of hate, that people pick up on. Still I am at a loss for why a person like Anne Hathaway should make the list 2 years in a row, (she was #1 last year). I mean she seems soinnocuous when you compare her to the likes of thecrudelytwerking Miley Cyrus, yet she is no where on this list.
For sure, there are people on the list, that have engage in a certain degree of asshattery that the public seems to have a very long memory for. For instance, Madonna speaks with a fake English accent and there was that terrible movie she made with a very embarrassed Warren Beatty in the 80's, where she molested a coke bottle. But hey, I don't see Woody Allen on the list, and he married the child he raised as his daughter. Go figure? Apparently, who the masses despise is a fickle process. A strange cross of bad behavior, perceived personality defects, and collective jealousy.
So without further de-hype...here is this years most disliked celebs...
1. Gwyneth Paltrow
2. Kristen Stewart
3. Jennifer Lopez
4. John Mayer
5. Katherine Heigl
6. Matt Lauer
7. Madonna
8. Justin Bieber
9. Anne Hathaway
10. Kris Jenner
11. Kim Kardashian
12. LeAnn Rimes
13. Ashton Kutcher
14. Jay Leno
15. Angelina Jolie
16. Lindsay Lohan
17. Shia LaBeouf
18. Taylor Swift
19. Jesse James
20. Chris Brown
Sorry ladies and gentlemen that you are on the list... but here is the good news. There is no such thing as bad publicity.... just ask Cher.
Hey Perrie,
I'm always interested in lists like this, because I get to compare popular trains of thought with my own. I'm not really agreeing or disagreeing here, because celebrities don't really affect me one way or another. I would like to point out the subjectivity of public opinion of celebrities, as so many different criteria affect their decision.
In fact, I'd like to point out a poll by a different organization, asking people who there FAVORITE celebrities are. Take note that there are 3 celebrities on BOTH lists' top 20.
Favorite AND hated. Something for everyone:
Wow, out of that list of twenty, I saw five names if I were to see their pics I would know.
Maybe I'm a real dope, but I don't see why Taylor Swift and Ann Hathaway made this list. I like them both!
Funny that you mentioned those 2. They're on both lists.
I noticed that!
Well, I think they're both all right. They seem harmless enough to me, and sincere in their "niceness".
Do you think that both of them have haters because the haters are a bit jealous of their success? I mean, to my knowledge, neither one of them have gone out of their way to harm anyone...
I think the world is much harder on women who are attractive than men. In all honesty.
One nice thing, none of us are perfect in appearance. We all have to do the best we can with what we have to work with... And in some cases, it's not much.
These two ladies are attractive, pretty, talented, and seem to be nice people. They are celebrities, and, therefore, placed in a position where they are criticized for everything they do. My only criticism of Taylor Swift is that she is immature, but I think she's growing up fast. My only criticism of Anne Hathaway is... I can't think of one.
Oh well...
My dad says that when you're on a pedestal, it's easier for peopleto reach your kneecaps with a 2x4.
Smart man!
While probably some of them are victims of the "gossip mill", it seems that the selection for the list is a bit arbitrary. TakeAshton Kutcher, for instance. All he did was divorce Demi Moore, and we all knew that marriage couldn't go on forever. But in the same year,AntonioBanderas divorcedMelanie Griffith and he's no where on that list. And while we are talking aboutAshton Kutcher... what about Charlie Sheen, who he replaced on "Three and a half men". The man is a mess and nasty... yet not on the list. It seems like this is more of a personal hit list than anything else.
Very Interesting Jon. ApparentlyAnne Hathaway,Justin Bieber andTaylor Swift make both lists. I guess this does go to the subjectivity of these kinds of lists. What I would like to know is how they are complied. Now that would give us more insight to our society and what we value and who are we pick as our role models and who are our cast outs.
Aeon,
I have to say, that I do get that vibe from her. But then again, isn't that true about her hubby? Why does Brad Pitt get a pass?
LR,
I am not sure if that is a good thing or not. It would be a good thing, if you spent your time reading. It would be a bad thing, if... if... OK maybe not, LOL!
I think you are both spot on. I don't get it either. They seem perfectly nice to me.
@ John,
I think you made an excellent case there. It seems that she is singled out for doing nothing more than Huge did, which is totally unfair and goes to what Dowser says here:
Gotta go along with that. I also noticed that there are more women on the hated list.
One more entry a composite
Any celebrity that runs for political office knowing of course, that Boobus americanawill vote for him/her.
Nought Babra... she's like batta!
BTW welcome aboard! (yeah that's me trying to be funny)
Mac,
For sure on that!Boobus americana always falls for that!
Surprised to see Jay Leno on that list. He is a hard-working, likeable comic who does not espouse any controversial views (to my knowledge). I know he does charity work and seems like a decent chap.
They hate him because he's a 1%er.
I've got a different question : Why does the media love Jennifer Lawrence so much ?
I totally agree Mike. I was shocked. He does a ton of charity work and he doesn't run around saying look at me like many others do.
Dean,
Most celebs are 1%ers. So that can't be the reason.
Jennifer who? Only kidding! I think she might not be feeling the love:
I don't know about the media, but I love her because she is a home town girl, and she seems very down-to-earth. She comes home often, to visit her parents and her friends.
That's nice to hear, Marsha. At least she didn't let fame get to her head.
The only thing that we ever hear about most of these stars is just the bad . No one is perfect or totally bad.
Years ago when the news had to tell the truth life was easier.
I think that the internet added to the madness. Add twitter, G+, facebook and stir...
Wow Perrie ... I didn't know that about her . Anyone who doesn't like twitter can't be all bad !
It would seem that she has good reasons!
I don't have nearly the same personal reason for disliking twitter . Mine is more of a philosophically based dislike ...
Any list like this without Nicolas Cage is crap...
I kid...
But I seriously dont like Nicolas Cage.
I think there might still be resentment fallout from the whole Conan O'B thing...
But I dont know.. that seems like ages ago.
She met my step-daughter, who was friends with one of her friends, and she was lovely to her! That was nice to hear about her! She seems like a nice, normal person!
And it really wasn't Jay's fault, but the network.
LOL...
IDK, Nick Cage is a bit nutty... but I don't have any other opinion of him. I give him credit for making it on his own, without using the family name.
My sister in law hates two actors for reasons that are beyond me; Peter Gallagher and Keanu Reeves. She won't even watch the Matrix.
