Three men accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks, including alleged mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, have reached plea agreements in the military commissions process, officials said Wednesday.

Mohammed, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin 'Attash and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi are scheduled to appear at a hearing at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, next week, according to the Office of Military Commissions.

The details of the plea agreement are unclear, but the defendants are expected to plead guilty to lesser charges that could spare them the death penalty.

They are not likely to be sentenced for months.

The plea agreement was negotiated between the accused and their attorneys and the Convening Authority for Military Commissions, Susan Escallier.

Mohammed and several other defendants, including the two others included the plea agreement, were initially charged and arraigned in 2008 in connection with their alleged roles in the attack, the Defense Department said in a statement.

Mohammed was charged with war crimes and murder in connection with the nearly 3,000 people who died in the attacks. He was captured in Pakistan in 2003 and held with other Al Qaeda detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Defense lawyers for those held at the military prison in Cuba have criticized the government for years of delays that have stalled their cases.

Some lawyers have attributed the delays to the government's seeking to cover up details of torture of detainees at secret CIA prisons before they were moved to Guantanamo.

Military prosecutors have blamed defense lawyers for the delays, saying in court papers that they have filed a significant number of motions challenging the government's evidence.

In a statement Wednesday, an official with Amnesty International USA called the agreement "welcome news" that will prompt some accountability for the 9/11 attacks and justice for its victims and survivors.

"We are also pleased that there is finally an outcome for at least some of the accused, who were tortured and then languished in detention without trial for more than two decades," Daphne Eviatar, director of group's Security with Human Rights program.

Eviatar said the announcement should mark the "beginning of the end" for the military prison.

The Biden administration has sought to quietly close Guantanamo. By last year, the number of people held at the facility was 30, down from the nearly 800 who were there at its peak.

load them into a plane

Why waste the plane, do a fly over at 35,000 feet and throw them out, they can talk to Allah all the way down.

I had a idea for the Somali pirates that were captured a few years ago. The same should apply to those worthless scum terrorists. Put em on a C-130 and give them parachutes. at 25,000 feet toss them out of the aircraft off the coast of Africa where they can swim to shore in some of the worst shark infested waters on earth and survive, they are off the hook. I don't expect a reasonable survival rate.

I could go with that as well, but a parachute in shark infested waters is more sporting I'd say, especially if they have to swim at least 10 miles or so to getvto shore. And did I mention they should be dumped stark naked?

The rioters on Jan 6th have been hunted down, over charged, and the vast majority convicted.

Same can't be said about Antifa/BLM Summer of Lover rioters. Seems the state and federal AG/DA's got cold feet when it came to prosecuting for even the most serious of charges. Same with the pro Hamas rioters. Wonder why that is? Couldn't be our wonderful two tier justice system operating in Democrat bastion of stupidity controlled federal government, states, and cities could it?

Jan 6th was one damn day where the only person killed was one of the rioters. Between the Summer of Love riots and pro Hamas riots at least 25 people were killed most of them not even rioters (and not by police); tens of millions of damage done to federal, public, and private property; and several square blocks of Seattle taken over by armed leftist militants for over a week.

But MAGA are the terrorists and insurrectionists in your mind. jrSmiley_88_smiley_image.gif

nationwide riots caused by rogue cops that like to kill minorities will never be equivalent to the J6 maga mob of gullible morons that swallowed the big lie hook, line, and sinker. then after being inspired by said liar and arriving in DC on J6 and being urged by that insurrectionist liar to march to the capitol, decided to breach the capitol after being provoked by tweets from the liar to obstruct a constitutionally mandated act of a joint session of congress to certify the results, tarnishing the peaceful transition of power for the first time in american history.

ashli babbitt committed suicide by ignoring multiple warnings not to enter. I regret her shooter wasn't rogue and that he didn't "dump his mag" into her skull. it's also interesting to note that if this country went back to the time in america that maga prefers, most of the people involved with the attempted J6 insurrection would already be decorating a wall and sharing a hole in the ground.

The sec of defense just revoked the agreement and relieved the official in charge.

Probably should have  a president at some point to avoid these blunders.

UPDATE:

W ASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Friday withdrew the  controversial plea deal  for the three men accused of  planning the 9/11 attacks.

"Today, Secretary Austin signed a memo reserving for himself the specific authority to enter into pre-trial agreements with the accused in the 9/11 military commission cases," the Defense Department said in a press release. "In addition, as the superior convening authority, the Secretary has also withdrawn from the pre-trial agreements that were signed in those cases."

Austin announced the move in a memo addressed to Susan Escallier, the convening authority for military commissions, who had worked to negotiate the deal.

“Effective immediately, I hereby withdraw your authority in the above-referenced case to enter into a pre-trial agreement and reserve such authority to myself,” Austin said in the  letter , which removes Escallier from the case.

Three men accused of plotting the 9/11 attacks, including alleged mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, have reached plea agreements in the military commissions process, officials said Wednesday.

We shall always remember 9/11-- as we should. But calling it The attack on the World Trade Center might be a little misleading, as calling it " The attack" implies that it was the only one. (In fact, 9/11 was the second attack on the WTC.

It happened on 2/26/1993. Though not successful, it was the prior attempt to knock the buildings down...and to commit mass murder.:

World Trade Center Bombing 1993

On February 26, 1993, at about 17 minutes past noon, a thunderous explosion rocked lower Manhattan.

The epicenter was the parking garage beneath the World Trade Center, where a massive eruption carved out a nearly 100-foot crater several stories deep and several more high.

Six people were killed almost instantly. More than a thousand people were hurt in some way, some badly, with crushed limbs.

Middle Eastern terrorism had arrived on American soil —with a bang.
