A U.S. military operation Thursday in Iraq killed at least 15 Islamic State militant group fighters, and at least six U.S. soldiers suffered injuries, three U.S. defense officials said.

None of the injures to the U.S. soldiers were described as life-threatening. Several were possible traumatic brain injuries, and at least one soldier suffered external injuries, the defense officials said.

The operation took place Thursday in Anbar in western Iraq, the officials said. Some of the dead ISIS figures were in leadership.

U.S. Central Command said in a statement Friday night the partnered raid with Iraqi security forces took place in early Thursday.

The ISIS operatives were "armed with numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive 'suicide' belts," the command, abbreviated as CENTCOM, said.

"This operation targeted ISIS leaders to disrupt and degrade ISIS' ability to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as U.S. citizens, allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond," it said.

There was no indication of any civilian casualties, CENTCOM said in the statement.

"Iraqi Security Forces continue to further exploit the locations raided," it said.

Guess there aren't any protesters marching in support of the Islamic State militants, cause, after all, the American soldiers probably weren't Jewish.

This happened Thursday.

The first report contains the line that:

None of the injures to the U.S. soldiers were described as life-threatening. Several were possible traumatic brain injuries, and at least one soldier suffered external injuries, the defense officials said.

Interesting.

Quagmires do create opportunities for ongoing victory celebrations.  We're stuck in Iraq and can't get out so we might as well burn through more tax dollars.

Oorah, we killed 'em dead!  Go team!  Now let's hear the post-game analysis and advertise tactical gear and assault rifles for fun and profit.  Sign up at your local recruiter and you can get in on the fun, too.

WTF are we even there any longer?

Restrain Iran and ISIS activities in the region.  Perhaps the risks are outgrowing the benefits.

Everyone in the Middle East knows we are not going to fight Iran.  And Israel has demonstrated that 2,000 lb bombs are effective against terrorists.  We've got bunker buster bombs that could wipe out Hamas tunnels in Gaza pretty quickly.

It's only been twenty one years.  There are US troops and terrorists in Iraq who weren't alive when the US first invaded Iraq.  Do they even understand why they are killing each other?

What does our continued presence in Iraq have to do with creating an opportunity economy?

The Shiites and Sunnis do.

Geopolitical presence while we, the USA, try to groom the current Iraqi government to ignore Iran, Russia and China.

Easy

Yep, along with all the remaining hostages.  However, they would be useful for Israel to go after Iran's underground nuclear bomb development facilities, wouldn't they.  It would not be a surprise to me if Iran were to provide a bomb to one of its proxies to create a "Sum of All Fears" in the land of the "Great Satan", but what the hell, who's concerned about that, eh?

That is the justification to argue for appeasing the terrorists.  Hasn't the argument been that forcing Netanyahu to accept a ceasefire on Hamas' terms would result in the hostages being released?

The Palestinians in Gaza are not being offered safe haven in the Hamas tunnels.  Palestinian children are not being protected by the tunnels.  In fact it's the reverse; Palestinian children are providing protection for the tunnels.  And negotiating with those who control the tunnels will result in some sort of humanitarian awakening?

Here's the fear of a nuclear Iran.  Iran could create a nuclear bomb that could be exploded about 300 miles above the Earth and shut down Europe's communication grid and, possibly, Europe's electrical grid.  That does not require a high yield, sophisticated weapon.  And the weapon doesn't have to achieve orbit.  There wouldn't be any blast damage or radioactive fallout.  Hiroshima and Nagasaki are obsolete models that are only useful for political arguments.  A nuclear capable Iran could blind Europe and open the door for Persian immigrants living in Europe to do their thing.

The principle weapon of a terror state are people embedded in the population they want to attack.  Supposedly that's what the continued presence of US troops in Iraq is supposed to be fighting.  But it's not possible to fight embedded terrorists without creating conditions being observed in Gaza.

How did hat work out this weekend?  Hamas executed the 6 hostages that were supposed to be the first to be released.  Only 100 dead hostages to go before 'Netanyahu the intractable' can release the Kraken and kill as many Palestinians he can with the munitions he has left.

Supposedly that's what the continued presence of US troops in Iraq is supposed to be fighting.

They aren't supposed to be fighting. Their mission is to assist and advise the Iraqi government.

On the ground most Iraqis have gotten used to no more political disappearances since Houssein met his end

although mass graves continue to be found, reminding the populace of what living under a dictator was like.

Progress in Iraq is slow but steady.  Friday's joint operation targeted ISIS leaders; while the Iraqis continued to exploit the ISIS locations, the US provided air assets to attack other known hideouts and storage points.

And why is that Netanyahu's or Israel's fault?  Hamas just demonstrated why Israel has been far too lenient.  Israel has to hit Hamas harder, regardless of collateral casualties.

They aren't supposed to be fighting. Their mission is to assist and advise the Iraqi government.

How else can the US claim credit for killing 15 ISIS fighters if the US isn't engaged in a combat mission?  Our troops weren't spreading the love like Jehovah's Witnesses.

Exactly, look what ‘Netanyahu’ made them do.  The Hamas executioners were weeping as the pulled the trigger on the hostages they had grown to love over these 10 months of captivity.

Really? That's your expert geopolitical answer, Gazza was a sealed prison for two years before Hamas broke out on October 7 because of decisions made by Netanyahu & Israel over the last few decades.  They created this mess by flip flopping on the two state solution.

Their mission is to assist and advise the Iraqi government.

The targets were too tempting. It was a joint operation. Both sides are touting the victory, The US a little less so because of the injuries involved two people who fell from helicopters during the airborne assault.

Exactly, the slogan from the river to the sea was just an initial bargaining position.  All Hamas wants is a two state solution.

Groom the Iraqi government?

Do you know how long it has been since Saddam was removed?

The Shia are loyal to Iran- that isn't going to change no matter how long we stay. Iran is an ally of both Russia and China- that isn't going to change either. So by proxy Iraq is going to move closer to Russia and China.

ISIS/ISIL aren't going anywhere either- they will have an eager recruits lining up as the Sunni are under represented in government- and still resent the way their country was handed to Iran.  Great part is ISIS/ISIL can travel freely between Iraq and Syria.

The Kurds are an after thought in Iraq. They had better pray we never get sick of wasting tax payer dollars and leave.

We are there for Iraqi oil- not for ourselves- but for France and Britain. Same as with Libya when we destabilized that country.

US foreign policy is permanently stuck on stupid- it doesn't matter who is in the White House. Unfortunately we have fucking stupid cheerleaders that will never force our government to leave.

Two years? You are off by decades there. Gaza has been a sealed prison since Israel withdrew their settlements.

because of decisions made by Netanyahu & Israel over the last few decades.

You are missing the obvious that Netanyahu's decision to remove troops from monitoring stations on the Gaza border and into the West Bank caused this. Seems he was getting "intelligence" from Mossad that the big uprising was going to come in the West Bank because of Israeli increased settler/IDF aggression, and massive expansions of settlements. They were horrendously wrong; but it hasn't stopped Israel from treating those in the West Bank as if they were responsible for Oct 7th.

Hell the operation in Jenin alone should have Israel in hot water; but crickets from the world.

At least 652 Palestinians in the West Bank have been killed by Israeli fire since the war in Gaza began over 10 months ago, according to the Palestinian ministry. Most have died during raids, which often trigger gunbattles with militants.

Israel says the operations are required to dismantle Hamas and other militant groups. Attacks on Israelis have risen since the start of the war.

Israel has built scores of settlements across the West Bank, which is home to over 500,000 Jewish settlers. The settlers have Israeli citizenship, while the 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank live under Israeli military rule, with the Palestinian Authority exercising limited control over population centers.

The part they leave out of course is every last Israel attacked in the West Bank lives in illegal settlements. West Bank Palestinians are not attacking Israel proper- they are fighting for the land they live on. They have a right to defend their land from occupation and attack same as Israel don't they?

Don't worry I am sure Biden/Kamala will drop some aid literally on the heads of West Bank Palestinians as a show of support.

18 years (2006 )

We officially withdrew in 2011 but re-engaged in 2014

and eventually pulled down to 2,500 troops 2 years ago.

No wonder 80% of American Jews will be voting Democratic!

Trump, Netanyahu, MAGAs, both Christian Evangelicals and hardcore Messianic Jews will settle for nothing but End Times!

Fuck That! Make a fucking peace including a Palestinian State!
