The dismantling of American justice
“There is especially good reason,” lawyers for the women wrote, “to believe that defendant Giuliani intends to evade payment of the judgment by any means he can devise.”

Supposedly Rudi Giuliani did the most egregious thing possible when he posted a video of two election workers in a Georgia vote counting center, asserting without any basis that they were cheating Donald Trump as they counted votes on Election Day. That was the time on election night at State Farm Arena, when Fulton County shut down the voting and asking all poll watchers to leave. The reason initially given was that there was a water pipe break. Later the claim changed to a backed-up toilet. However, there were cameras videotaping what was happening at the polling location. Poll workers didn't leave, and it appeared they were going through ballots. That was only one of the issues that came up in Fulton County that night:

The brief filed Tuesday on behalf of Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger addresses allegations made in sworn affidavits filed with the lawsuit that say witnesses saw suspicious-looking absentee ballots during a hand count of ballots that stemmed from a state audit requirement.

“Based upon the witness statements and examination of approximately 1,000 absentee ballots and ballot images, the Secretary’s investigators have not uncovered any absentee ballots that match the descriptions given ... or otherwise appear to be fraudulent or counterfeit,” the brief says.

Investigators spoke with Susan Voyles, an auditor during the hand count. She said she saw a batch of “pristine” absentee ballots that appeared to have been marked by a computer rather than by hand and weren’t creased as they would have been if they had been put in envelopes.

Investigators examined the ballots in the batches and box identified by Voyles, but all had been creased and none appeared to have been marked by a computer. Voyles then told investigators she may have been mistaken and gave them another box number. Investigators determined the box-batch combination she cited didn’t exist.

Voyles told investigators she reported the suspicious-looking absentee ballots to a county election official at the time, but no officials recalled speaking to her about suspicious-looking ballots.

Investigators also spoke to Barbara Hartman, an auditor at the same table as Voyles. She confirmed she saw suspicious-looking ballots but said she didn’t note the box or batch numbers. She also said they didn’t report suspicious-looking ballots to election officials out of fear that the election workers would crease them.

Investigators also spoke to Sonia-Francis Rolle and Gordon Rolle, both auditors during the hand count. They said they saw ballots that appeared not to have been folded but didn’t report that to elections officials or take note of the batch or box number.

The brief also addresses a widely discussed and  previously debunked assertion  that Fulton County election employees working at State Farm Arena on election night pulled out “suitcases” of ballots from under a table after observers and media had left and scanned the ballots multiple times.

Investigators: No evidence of Fulton County ballot fraud | AP News

Evidence or the lack thereof is all that counts, but one must acknowledge all of that looked bad. Please note how much Barbara Hartman trusted the "election officials" in Fulton County. So, we have a trial because Rudi Giuliani posted something on social media.

And who is the judge in that case?

Let me give you a few clues:

She is the Chief Judge for the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

She supervised the grand juries in the Mueller investigation and "Russian interference" in the 2016 elections and the attempts to "overturn" the 2020 election.

In a 13-page order she found that she agreed with virtually everything Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss said about Mr. Giuliani was true. (what a shock)

She concluded that Mr. Giuliani was liable for defamation, civil conspiracy and intentional infliction of emotional distress. She ordered Rudolph W. Giuliani to immediately pay the $148 million he owes to two former Georgia election workers

She was appointed by Barack Obama in 2010.

Her name is Beryl Howell

These two women can't even wait for Guiliani's appeal

Whatever one thinks of anything surrounding this case, are they really entitled to such a judgement?

There is no room for ideology in a court of law.

Good! Because we need all the room in a court to properly support:  fact-finding, bias-free, and seats with butts in them.

But we've seen it quite a few times already.

It began with Obama appointing those judges.

They have turned the law on its head to achieve what they believe is warranted.

Those judges have committed judicial malpractice.

But don't call them out.  Some people will freak out and you'll be treated like you just kicked a kitten.

Some seem to think democracy needs to be destroyed before it can be saved.

Others say they don't know.

Indeed.  Especially in the Supreme Court!   But ideology is like water ... it finds its way through the cracks and damages the structure.

Since when exactly?

Could it be the man who brought it in with "hope & change?"

Even after Fulton County and Georgia officials refuted accusations against Ms Freeman and Ms Moss, Mr Giuliani continued to share false claims that they had pulled thousands of fraudulent ballots from a suitcase and fed them through voting machines.
The mother and daughter testified last year to the US House of Representatives select committee that investigated the Capitol riot how the voter fraud claims left them living in fear. Rudy Giuliani admits making false claims of Georgia voter fraud (bbc.com)

Did Freeman and Moss get death threats from MAGAs ?  Yes, they did.

We are still waiting , almost 4 years later for ANY credible evidence the election was stolen from Trump.

Did Freeman and Moss get death threats from MAGAs ?

Did former President Trump get shot in an attempt on his life?  Yes, he did.

Where is his lawsuit against Biden & Harris, who constantly called him "a threat to democracy?"

You should tell Trump to file a lawsuit, he's an expert at it.

I do and if you or Trump are upset by this then prove that he wouldn't get the same treatment by filing the lawsuit.

The proof is everywhere.

How many bogus trials?

How many bogus impeachments?

How many unwarranted investigations?

How about a federal judge wrongly halting his travel ban?

These two women can't even wait for Guiliani's appeal . . . . Whatever one thinks of anything surrounding this case, are they really entitled to such a judgement?

This could not have been an issue had the fool in question kept his bullshit thoughts packed inside his thick head, instead of letting his weird thoughts leak out into the public domain where others heard them, acted, and ultimately sued that fool over it. And, this fool , was a life-long lawyer until Donald helped him becoming a big fool in his old age. Now, he can pay 'up' and we're soon see if this fool will follow the law and keep his damn mouth shut regarding these two innocent women.

'Totally ridiculous' - may be. I am not the judge or whatever jury may have been involved. The law, rules, and instructions are whatsoever they are to those involved in setting the penalty.  What I don't read or hear trumpists griping or reproving 'that fool' about is his lie, and its repetitions, which gave the sue life in the first place. 'This fool' screwed himself!

Coincidentally, judges and juries are SIGNALING that they are fed-up with 'yahoos' who think they can do and say whatsoever they want expediently to get the results they want with wanton recklessness towards innocent people doing a proper job.

It's still bullshit. I don't care if these women NEVER get a job due to this, they sure as hell wouldn't be making anywhere close to that money. I would say it would be pushing it to say even $1million each.

The law, rules, and instructions are whatsoever they are to those involved in setting the penalty

Then those need to be filed under frivolous bullshit cases like the bullshit award that a thief got when a skylight in a school collapsed when he was going to burglarize it. Or the dumbass who used his lawn mower as a hedge trimmer because there wasn't a warning not to do that. And don't get me started on the coffee burns at McDonalds.

That's something "we" can't help the collective "you" resolve. Take 'em' to court!  Now trumpists labor to mock and diminish two innocent women who performed a proper public service (as determined by a court of law).

A better set of concerns would be to mock 'that fool' for throwing away his wealth, reputation, entitlement to practice law in New York all for a penalty 'receipt' on behalf of another tired, old, fool named Donald.

Finally, these two women did not set the penalty or award themselves. The court did. If the collective you have a problem with the result. . . see a proper court!
