Springfield Residents Rocked by Bomb Threats in Wake of Racist Smear Campaign
A small town in Ohio has become the center of national controversy over false claims that its Haitian residents are killing local pets

Last week, Republicans   made the town of   Springfield ,   Ohio , the center of a   racist smear campaign   accusing Haitian migrants of slaughtering and eating local pets. In the subsequent days, what began as gross online misinformation evolved into threats of violence against Haitian residents of Springfield and city officials.

On Thursday, Springfield’s city hall was forced to evacuate after receiving a bomb threat. According to the city commission, the threat was emailed to “to multiple agencies and media outlets.

“City of Springfield received a bomb threat that has prompted an immediate response from local and regional law enforcement,” the city wrote  on its Facebook page . “As a precautionary measure, the building has been evacuated, and authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation. Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our employees and residents. We are working to address this situation as swiftly as possible.”

It’s unclear what inspired the threats, but the incident took place just days after former President Donald Trump  repeated online claims  that Haitian migrants were killing and eating people’s pets during Tuesday’s debate against Vice President Kamala Harris.  (Cont'd. at linked article)

P.S: No jokes please, this is a serious subject.

Please Take Note

196 Due to the intensity of this election cycle, jokes about the candidates will not be allowed, since often "jokes" are meant to taunt and will be ticketed as a taunt.   Please take note!

“In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs,” Trump said. “The people that came in, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating, they’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

Trump simply tried to kill two birds with one stone - to criticize the Democratic immigration policies and to get the SPCA and all pet lovers on his side.

The claim has also been amplified by Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, and other Republican lawmakers and commentators.

The claim (probably false) is being elevated & contested by the left to deflect from the real issue of 20-30,000 Haitians being sent to a small town of 60,000 people:

The city of Springfield,  Ohio , had roughly 60,000 residents as of 2022. In the two years since then, thousands of migrants have arrived, mostly from  Haiti . Although some have welcomed the new neighbors, others have lamented the change and said it has taken a toll on city resources.

Since February 2021,  more than 470,000  Haitian migrants have been encountered at the border, but only 80,000 of them came through illegally. The remainder, 390,000, were intercepted at ports of entry, including an unspecified number who applied from abroad to be paroled into the country through a Biden-Harris administration program that Republicans have criticized as circumventing congressional authority.

How a small Ohio city became the epicenter of the border debate- Washington Examiner

Ohio Gov DeWine is very sympathetic to the Haitian plight:

"As a result, many Haitians now in Springfield are looking to use the area’s health care services, which DeWine said is straining the local healthcare system and creating longer wait times.

DeWine went on to loosely endorse  the country’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program , which has granted much of Springfield’s Haitian community the permission to live in the United States. However, he challenged federal officials to take a more active role in ensuring that communities that end up taking in immigrant populations are supported, which he said is not occurring in Springfield today."

Springfield Ohio has been overwhelmed. That is the issue.

Isolationism is unAmerican. Plain and simple. Demonizing poor, desperate, people ran out of their home country by violence is UNCHRISTIAN and not demonstrative of the love of God. That is, failing to accent the positive while exploiting a negative (real or imagined) against fellow human beings is inhumane.

Trump and Vance are engaged in a racist, hate-mongering campaign unlike anything we've seen in America for a very long time.  Before this nightmare is over they will both have blood on their hands.  Of course, Trump already promised that his mass deportation terrorism will be "bloody".

Over the years I've noticed that Trump never directly advocates violence. But he does say stuff that "gives people ideas". For example, saying things like

If that idea isn't implemented, there will be violence in the streets

Never directly advocating violence...but saying that "people will be violent".

Something is seriously wrong and WEIRD about J. D. Vance. He clearly got whatever liar's 'bug' Donald has. Maybe. . .it's the attraction between the two! Donald + J. D., too WEIRD for one country. Oh, the lies they could tell in four years of running this country: "LEGION"!

It's not a joke. These two men, both, are right out of Hell's playbook!

This is why some conservatives wanted the 'gloves' taken off PC speech. Because now in open society they can remind the public of the good old days (of Donald's youth) when Donald openly spewed angry, violent RHETORIC meant to incite others to action. He won't do it. . . being weak himself. But, he needs proper stooges to 'execute' his aggressions. That said, his tongue, his speech is vile and dangerous to men, women, and children alike! Now he has a youthful "mini-me" to rear. J. D. Vance. . . is now Donald's Protege.

(Let's see how long it takes J.D. Vance to become a proper 'replacement' for Roy Cohn in Trump 'world'.)

It means 'effing" around with the voting rules and regulations each election season seeking SELECTED and one-sided results which disenfranchise, limit, discount, and dilute minorities and marginalized people voting power (if it leaves said power intact at all)! It means having a RIGHT to vote. . .and yet the 'power' has insignificant effect overall on change for the better and for minorities and 'outgroups' ("undesirables" and yes, women fit into this section).

Oh, that tired lie again?

I know of no law that does any of what you have imagined there.

It means having a RIGHT to vote. .

You must be using a definition of "dilute" not found in the dictionary.

What you just posted is saying that diluting votes is done by having a RIGHT to vote. That makes no sense.

How Voting Laws Have Changed in Battleground States Since 2020

Most have made it harder to vote, but others have expanded access.

August 15, 2024

Georgia

New laws in effect for the 2024 election:  2 restrictive, 6 interference-related, 1 expansive

Georgia has made it harder to vote and facilitated election interference.

In early 2021, the Georgia legislature passed Senate Bill 202. This 98-page law  takes aim  at all sorts of ways people vote. On mail voting, it cuts the window to request a ballot by more than half, requires counties to wait longer to mail out ballots, establishes new ID rules, bars officials from mailing ballots that voters have not requested, and severely restricts the availability of drop box locations and hours (especially in large cities). footnote1_slMT86xZhmR1 20

The law also makes it harder for voters who go to the wrong precinct to have their ballots counted and it bans mobile voting centers. Many of these provisions are in response to the 2020 election, when Georgians voted by mail in unprecedented numbers and certain areas (like Fulton County, which includes most of Atlanta) widely distributed drop boxes and brought mobile voting centers to churches, parks, and libraries. footnote2_dCZsWHoQ0dkZ 21

S.B. 202 has faced extensive litigation. A federal court blocked provisions that banned giving food and water to voters waiting in line and required voters to write their birth dates on absentee ballot envelopes, although the food and water decision is currently on appeal. That means the law will be almost entirely in force for this year’s election, where it may have far-reaching disenfranchising effects. The other restrictive law makes it easier to remove eligible voters from the rolls through voter challenges. footnote3_qcIFN8VbNl2X 22

Georgia has also enacted six interference laws, including S.B. 202. These laws increase partisanship on the State Election Board and give the newly partisan State Election Board authority to meddle with local election boards, footnote4_dbmpiCKXTwCn 23  grant the Georgia Bureau of Investigation authority to investigate election issues and recommend them for prosecution, footnote5_xDaJRZTI8ZRh 24 and criminalize election officials taking private grants for running elections. footnote6_jizjnLi2XgXd 25 Three of the laws replace the members of county election boards with partisan appointments. footnote7_iXssKghxQvsu 26

In addition to those three laws, Georgia enacted several laws in 2021 to restructure local boards of election. These laws may have qualified as interference legislation when they were passed. However, the Brennan Center only began comprehensively tracking this category of legislation in January 2022. These types of laws, whether passed in 2021 or 2022, have led to the  ouster  of Black election officials across the state; in turn, the new boards have taken actions that negatively affect Black voters such as  eliminating  Sunday voting hours.

The lone expansive law extends state employees’ paid time off for voting to include in-person early voting.
