As long as the Big Three could work together to manage the market, they could ram whatever they pleased down consumers throats. So Americans can buy Hummers!
It was pretty much the same for the German manufacturers - they played the same game. Wanna buy a Maybach?
But sometimes nice orderly company-controlled markets get disrupted. China!
China makes good cars for a reasonable price. American jingoism has kept them out of the States. Europe also slapped dissuasive tarrifs on Chinese EVs, but too late: people saw how good and cheap they were.
So people stopped buying crap cars for high prices.
I'm just telling you in a gentle way that that is what the article you posted appears to me, so I'm replying in kind. Most of the members here are aware that I'm unable to open youtube so they describe it or name it with text so that I could seek another source for what it says.
No need to apologize, you didn't know. As it happens, I like variety as well, not only because it's the spice of life, but also because I was for two years the Chief Barker (President) of Variety Club of Ontario, and the following two years an International Ambassador with Variety Clubs International. Canada doesn't have Congresspersons, only Members of Parliament, and where I am I'm not a citizen, not even an immigrant, but only a mere visitor with a renewable visa.
Anyway, using the seed title I found written articles on the topic using Microsoft Bing, so I AM aware of the gist of what the youtube would have been
Last week I was pointing out to one of our members the best example of having free trade and that was when there were only three auto makers in the US, Ford, Chevy and Chrysler and for years they built lead sleds, junk cars with short life span and that is all the US buyer had to choose from, then came along the Japanese auto makers and the world changed so that the US buyer had choice in design, cost, and performance. I can’t imagine any car buyer wanting to go back that time, yet here we have the ‘’America First’’ gang and seems to have forgotten history both in the auto industry and the other times that we have declared, America First and the horrible results of that mantra.
"Free market"!

Japan disrupted our auto market.
Yes. And the Big Three learned nothing.
I don't disagree and NUMMI revealed problems with the workforce as well.
My family bought a Japanese jeep in 1966 and a little sedan in 1971.
?
B leave he is showing you what they learned

Sorry, Buzz. I watch a lot of YouTube because I enjoy variety.
Maybe you could write to your congressperson?

History doesn't repeat... but its hiccups are violent!
