Hitting the ground running
In the past 24 hours, Trump has selected Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York to serve as his ambassador to the United Nations, Tom Homan as the new "border czar," Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida to be his national security advisor, and former Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York to steer the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Link to quote: Trump expected to name Sen. Marco Rubio as Secretary of State: report | Fox News

With Republicans now poised to win the House it appears that Donald Trump will be able to put forward his legislative agenda. Three items on the list are free of the need of a 60 vote majority in the US Senate or a filibuster.

They are:

1. Tax cuts: The 2017 tax cuts which Donald Trump enacted in his first term and benefit all Americans are due to expire next year. A Republican congress will be able to preserve and extend them without too much trouble.

2. Immigration : A wall and mass deportations are now almost a given. A strict comprehensive immigration reform package may be more of a struggle since Republicans and democrats see the issue much differently and no matter what Trump wants to do on such a plan, democrats are bound to resist.

3. Energy and climate:  Trump can unilaterally permit more oil and gas drilling and cut environmental regulations the same way Biden created them. Now with a Republican congress people won't be forced to buy electric cars which at the present time are expensive, unreliable and cumbersome. We can expect the return of Trump's robust energy policies.

All other legislation may depend on how many of the remaining contested House seats the Republicans happen to win. One thing Trump learned from Biden is that there is much he can do with executive orders, and we can expect to see many on day 1. Tariffs, trade policy and voter ID are also on the agenda. One thing you won't see is the fabrication presented by the Kamala Harris campaign concerning a national anti-abortion policy

The Trump doctrine: Although he has not been named, Sen Marco Rubio is the favorite to be Trump's choice as Secretary of State. That will mean a huge shift in policy at the State Department.

12themorning-nl-rubio-lmfq-jumbo.jpg
Sen Marco Rubio

I voted for Rubio in the 2016 primary. I regard him as a super patriot. I read his book " An American Son, " and in it he told a story of going to a school with other types of Hispanics. He said they called him "gringo. " I think that is when I became fond of him. He would make a great Secretary of State if he does get the job. In Florida he could have been reelected Senator until the day he died. That is the only negative.

Elise Stefanik, the Republican congresswoman from New York has been offered the role of Ambassador to the UN.

Lee Zeldin, a former representative from New York, will lead the Environmental Protection Agency. He is expected to bring the agency back to planet earth.

Michael Waltz, a representative from Florida, will be Trump's National Security Advisor.  He is a former Green Beret who has taken a tough stance on China.

Aides like Susie Wiles, Trump’s incoming chief of staff, and advisers like Elon Musk are giving advice on cabinet picks. Wiles said Trump would move quickly to reinstate orders from his first term that President Biden had revoked. Stephen Miller will be deputy Chief of Staff.

Trump has chosen South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to serve as the next Homeland Security Secretary, two sources familiar with the decision said this morning.

Trump announced on Sunday he will appoint the former acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Tom Homan, as his “Border Czar.” He couldn't have picked a more dedicated man. There was a rumor that Homan asked his driver to provide immigration documentation. (just a joke) He did leave a message for the illegal migrants a few days ago:   "Start packing… “we’re coming”

World reaction:

Thus far Hamas now says it is willing to talk, Putin is ready for the same, Mexico’s car factories are bracing for tariffs, China now has to worry about weapons going to Japan, the Philippines and Australia and Iran's leaders know real sanctions are coming and might just be in fear for their very lives. In NYC the mayor has ended the spending cards for illegal migrants. Detroit auto are again turning their attention to the cars people want. A caravan heading for the border is disintegrating as the realization of deportation and the long trip may not be worth the expense of paying drug lords to get into the US.

In the news:

The police in Amsterdam arrested 5 more "people" on assault charges after antisemitic attacks against Israeli soccer fans in the city.

Ruben Gallego beat Kari Lake in the Arizona Senate race.

More Americans are choosing not to have children.

Two weeks after the election nearly a dozen House races have yet to be called.

New York Judge Juan Merchan is expected to decide whether to uphold or dismiss President-elect Donald Trump’s guilty verdict in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against him.

MSNBC’s reliably liberal audience has tuned out the anti-Trump network since Election Day with a staggering 54% drop in primetime viewership.

Good morning.

Oprah Winfrey on Monday shut down a report that Kamala Harris’ failed presidential campaign  paid her $1 million  to stump for the Democrat.

“I was paid nothing — ever,” Winfrey  told a TMZ reporter  who approached her as she walked to her car.

The reporter asked about the claims that the Harris team paid her the massive figure for the star-studded, virtual town hall called “Unite for America” that the talk show star hosted on behalf of the Democratic nominee in September.

The  Washington Examiner reported  last Friday that the Harris campaign paid $1 million to Winfrey’s production company on Oct. 15.

Oprah Winfrey denies report that Harris campaign paid her $1 million: 'I was paid nothing -- ever'

Apparently, Winfrey's "production company" has nothing to do with her.

Both could be right, they may have paid her production company 1 million but not paid her personally for the town hall, the Harris campaign will have to have a record of it, if it occurred.  We will find out if Oprah is splitting hairs or if the Washington Examiner was wrong.

Not sure why she has to 'disclose' anything to uninvolved press officials. But even so, it is her money if no laws are broken. Don't see anyone here complaining that Donald Trump will continue to enterprise anything/everything he can create on a momentary notice.

'Radical' is what is about to happen. It's just too much to ask some conservatives to leave other people freedoms alone. Sad, actually. But true. And yes, some "democrats" shot themselves in the butt, foot, and mind with their votes or lack thereof. Now comes the consequences of doing so. I will feel nothing for any of them.

I think you misunderstood my statement.  If the democrats had gotten wiser they would have not waited so long to acknowledge what the rest of the country and world knew...Biden is not fit.  They would have also run a better candidate instead of somebody who is complicit in much of the problems we are experiencing right now.

I will ALWAYS question somebody if their sole reason for voting for a particular candidate is based on gender or skin color.  We are not making a DEI hire.  We are looking for somebody to move the country forward in such a way that it benefits ALL of us.  Not a particular demographic or political party.  Lets face it, neither party is good for the country.  But we are stuck with it until we all come together and bring something better to the table.

Donald Trump is elected because of his color and his gender. It certainly is not because of his qualifications. And his professional character is atrocious. And he campaigned for the 'bro' vote. . . and largely got it. As Kamala largely got the female vote.

BTW, I only bring this up because 2.1.7 went there. No black person or woman for that matter would even have been allowed (by the GOP/Democratic Party) to start up a campaign with all the cases and reprehensible words spoken and repeated from Donald's lips.

As for DEI hire in and of itself. Well, only have to look at the electoral college to see EQUITY deployed to balance the 'field' of political contest for president when the majority votes for another. Case in point: 2020.  That is, in 2020 Donald Trump was a "DEI" hire according to the constitution.

It certainly is not because of his qualifications.

Given the lack of qualifications of the opposition....

That is all up to the individual's opinion.

The only opinion that matters here is in this discussion. The only qualifications that matter are Donald's (and we all saw his qualifications/unfitness on full display) even as he is pushed to victory by supporters and some new voters.

In 2020, Donald Trump lost the popular vote against Hillary, but won the presidency to the electoral vote process. That's taking a loser and lifting him out of his 'hole' onto a level playing field and aiding his success! No matter how one looks at it.

Also, just look at what Donald Trump is doing right now; promoting lesser qualified people to cabinet and higher stations (including his sister in law in Florida seeking to take over Rubio's senate seat. . . it's worse than equity. . .it's nepotism rearing its ugly head in the halls of power once more.)

Yes, he did. However, Donald Trump did not build the promised border wall (with a beautiful door, nor did he even bother to recommit to doing so this time), and he did not get a new health 'system' for the country, and the rest of Trump's activities are a matter of ongoing discussions (and court cases). For any minority, I can easily see some conservatives labeling them incompetent and worse unfit to service this great nation. But (white) dominance is important. . . to some conservatives. Just calling it what it is.

An aspect of the Presidential Election that means NOTHING.  And for some reason you all on the left keep bringing it up.

I am apathetic about what Donald Trump is doing, because "we" warned people (and he did too) and so it is what it is. That said. the whole DEI put-down talking point fails under its own 'weight.' And, I observe the quick dismissal of DEI in the constitution when it comes to the presidential selection process.

BTW, picking. . . loyalists. . .to run the government is not picking the best people qualified/fit to do the job. It's picking loyalists for personal and professional purposes. It is what it is.
