Coal power plant approvals in China crash as China adds 210GW of renewables

Another report said all of China's coal plants are now running at 40% capacity, or less, and many of them have already shut down/decommissioned, due to lack of need and have aged out.

I'm... tired... of hearing about the craziness that's happening in America these days, so... here's a video about two countries, and neither is the USA.

The world is continuing to turn. The fascists will parade...

Nota for Buzz: This is an Australian EV guy, reporting on the immense volume of solar that China is installing... and the ensuing drop in coal usage. He warns Australians that their coal jobs will be going away... SOON!

Canute knew he could not halt the tide. His "demonstration" was intended to show that the tide is unstoppable.

Trump actually thinks he can stop history. Xi will show him otherwise.

Although China and the USA are the greatest causers of the global warming, China is in high gear reducing its fossil fuel emissions and developing non-polluting renewable energy.  From what I've been reading, it appears to be Trump's intention to shift the USA gears into reverse on that.  In fact, I expect that Trump will cancel Biden's rejoining the Paris Climate Agreements again.

Trump is courting the world's disdain. He'll get it.

There won't be a single country willing to work with him. Oh, wait... yes there will: Russia, Belarus, and Hungary.

And even Hungary made not want to associate with him.

I guess I have to admit that I think Israel would as well, but it would be payback for his doing more for Israel than any PotUS in recent history, and for the USA having Israel's back.

Most countries will work with the US as they have previously stated..but they will pick and choose what suits them..as each country has its own interests at heart..

So in that respect nothing has changed..as with all things will just have to wait and see what comes out in the wash with Trump..

Who knows..will just have to wait and see... it really doesn't matter what Trump decides it will make no difference between the standing of our two countries..

If it all turns to crap he will be gone in 4 years and we will wait for the next President..

AUKUS has been on shakey ground from the beginning to be honest..

And if Trump has any brains he will give our ambassador to the US the boot.. Rudd the dud is a slime ball..

I'm not at all sure that there will be another election in four years.

They're too busy looking back like Lot's wife at some fantasy past they've recreated in their minds about how great things were back in the 1940's and 1950's when coal jobs and manufacturing were booming, and the US was the largest manufacturer and exporter of goods in the world after the vast majority of the rest of the worlds manufacturing plants were destroyed in WW2. Of course, that time period was only great if you were a white conservative Christian, not so great if you were a black, Latino, Asian or lgtbq American.

Interesting. However, I have some doubts about the accuracy. According to the World Energy Monitor website, the actual situation looks rather different. As of July of this year, China has more than 247,000 pre-permitted and permitted planned coal plants on the books, more than 173,000 under construction and more than 1.2 million in current operation.

Apparently this organization is reliable and is used by governments, media and academic researchers.

For your consideration.

Arvo Draky... Sam Evans is pushing like mad to have people convert to electric cars here..so he is spinning his spiel....and where does he live Melbourne..

I want to see him move to a regional area where hundreds of ks are the norm and you have two charging stations in a town..if you have a couple of hours to kill waiting to get a spot then great..or better still get to a town and the stations are out of action.. can't exactly go to the nearest petrol station...then what is he going to do?

This video is extremely selective and only tells half the story..and all rather one sided, his side..

Just do a google and the Chinese are still building coal fired power stations but not as many...they will still need them due to the massive demand between 9 and 5 and as back ups..any reasonable thinking country would do that...

Yes China is cutting back on coal, they banned Australia coal which made no impact here over the COVID dust up.. India took all we had as did other countries..I did hear about power black outs in China as they couldn't source enough from Mongolia etc to cover the demand...

Buzz maybe able to throw more light on that... even he said power is very expensive there and people walking around in coats inside their houses to keep warm is the norm.

So what Mr Sam Evans says I would take with a pinch of salt or in his case a pinch of coal..as he pushes his agenda for electric cars..I certainly will not be going down that path and will stick to my Subaru Impreza..

In all the years we've been living in Chongqing we never had a power blackout.  Only twice during those years did our building turn off the power for about a half day to make repairs or adjustments, and they gave us notice.  Although I know that the history of people here was to save power and wear coats and sweaters in their homes, I don't know if it's so common now, certainly not in our home.  However, I'm more used to and tolerant of cold than most people here because of where I come from.  In any event, I can certainly afford to pay for the utilities provided to our home.

I chatted with one of our members, who lives in Wyoming. He considered his driving patterns as typical of all Americans. In fact, the average American drives less than thirty miles per day. So a range of even a hundred miles is plenty.

I don't know Australia very well. I seem to remember that a large part of your population lives fairly close to the ocean... which is kinda logical for a continent country. I know the outback is immense, but I remember that it's pretty scarcely populated.

Do you know what average daily milage is? That's what's most significant.

About 90% of the population live along the coast in Australia..so yes the vast distances we travel with literally nothing around is quite common..

It's hard to say the average distance per day as it is depends on entirely where you live..in my regional town I know people travel 200 kms per day to go to work..100ks each way for 5 days..

People in the cities may travel 40ks, 20ks each way but takes them just as long time wise... certainly not my cup of tea..

So good luck crossing the Nullabor 1,700 ks of nothing other than the odd road house, roos and road trains..

I searched "average daily distance driven in Australia".

Thirty km. So an average Australian can live quite comfortably with 200 km range. One charge every week.

Obviously, there won't be EVs crossing the outback on a single charge, any time soon. But I get the feeling that most Australians don't drive across the outback every week.

EVs aren't - won't soon be - for everyone. But "a large majority" is enough to change the world.

I don't think Trump is breaking China's back with his tariffs on Chinese EVs, nor is Europe going to do it either.  Not counting exports, China sold 8.1 million locally in 2023, and has been selling an average of one million a month locally during 2024.  I was given a ride in one last year - smoothest quietest ride in a car I ever had in my life, and I've driven some pretty good cars.
