Organized Religion Ain't My Thing … but I Find it Easy to Believe What Sir Thomas Browne Once Stated

"Nature is the Art of God" _ Sir Thomas Browne

One of the most difficult problems for even the most sophisticated cameras of the day, is the HIGH-CONTRAST subject. Unlike the human eye , which can, in many situations resolve scenes with extreme areas of light and shadow,a camera's light meter , many times, cannot.

There are on occasion, work-around strategies to make a high-contrast scene work as a picture a subject for another discussion. Suffice to say for now, that when a high-contrast scene, particularly one with great color is resolved by a photographer, the results can be dramatic and SPIRITUAL. And when that happens, speaking for myself, I think of the quote by Sir Thomas Browne which bears repeating so, one more time

3052_discussions.png?width=500 This was on my morning commute yesterday. I normally doctor up my pics with photoshop, but this one needed nothing. The colors lasted for about two minutes, then disappeared into daylight.

Gorgeous pictures and you have the high contrast thing down pat.

I've GOT to get this new camera working a bit better and find all it's cords-- you are inspiring me to get busy doing something I love! Thank you!

vivid memories, of days long past...

It's not possible to know what images will evoke what memories in which individuals, and, of sometimes, I don't know how a particular image might affect me until I see it outside of a viewfinder.

The scenes I choose to photograph and the way I see them before snapping the shutter, obviously evoke something in me, although, other than the sheer beauty of them, I can't really say why a life-long city boy like myself gravitates to them.

But there is a special sense of satisfaction I feel when someone I deem a friend, as I deem you to be Egilman, expresses something in the way you have.

There are a number of NT people I consider to be special friends; I think the fact I can feel the way I do about people I have never met (or better expressed, people "I have yet to meet"), indicates something that transcends corporeal, physical presence an essence embodied in a "kindred spirit" perhaps.

The loss of Tsula caused me to go to tears; I never met him, have no idea of what he looked like but there was, and remains a connection. And maybe of all words, the word "connection" is the most telling. I will always remember the few photos Tsula shared they are his pictures, and, to me they are pictures of him.

I am confident that all on NT I care for and love know who they are so I won't name them; but Egilman, because your comment moved me to leave this one, I will say that you are among them (for whatever it may be worth).

Peace to all herein friends and otherwise.

Cool photos. Love 'em. Photo 1 is very inviting. I could spend a week in a little tent by that creek easily. Very cool place.

I thought we were going to have a discussion about organized religion and I was up for that, but no. One of the biggest opponent of organized religion was a g-g-great uncle of mine, John Wesley. So a bunch of folks took his distaste for organized religion and made up the Methodist Church so they could follow his "method". I know what the "method" is, but it's a secret kept by the family members to this day. hee hee hee.

Beautiful place, Bro. I'm liking that mist. We don't get that round here in the desert. Just plain old cool.

More fall photos to come from earlier this week; I'm heading out again on Friday (weather-permitting) to catch the last of the peak-of-the-peak fall colors.

After that, I'll be thinking about snow-in-the-woods photos.
