Beauty is truth, truth beauty
"My initial understanding is the reservoirs that the Palisades were drawing on, these three-million-gallon reservoirs, were full at the initiation of these fires."

Link to quote: Was Palisades Reservoir Empty When The Fire Started? Fact-Checking Viral Claim | Times Now

Today's title was taken from the most famous line that John Keats ever wrote. In 1819 he wrote Ode on a Grecian Urn . The line goes ‘Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.’ In that case California Senator Adam Schiff must be fairly ugly. The congenital liar who became only the third member of the House of Representatives to be censured since the turn of the century. Schiff was censored for blatantly lying about Donald Trump colluding with Russia.

Schiff was at it again yesterday when he told ABC host Jonathan Karl that as far as he knew the Palisades CA reservoir was full at the time of the recent California wildfires.

You can find the outrageous lie at about 16:40 of the tape: I had to provide the entire interview. (I couldn't find a transcript yet)

For the record the reservoir was empty:

"A large reservoir in Pacific Palisades that is part of the Los Angeles water supply system was out of commission when a ferocious wildfire destroyed thousands  of homes and other structures nearby, the Los Angeles Times found.

Officials said that the Santa Ynez Reservoir had been closed since about February for repairs to its cover, leaving a 117-million-gallon water storage complex empty in the heart of the Palisades for nearly a year.

The revelation comes amid growing questions about why firefighters ran out of water while battling the blaze, which ignited Tuesday during catastrophically high winds. The Times reported early Wednesday that  numerous fire hydrants  in higher-elevation streets of the Palisades went dry, leaving crews struggling with low water pressure as they combated the flames."

Newsom orders probe into why Pacific Palisades reservoir was offline during fires - Los Angeles Times

Schiff went on to wonder if the incoming President would care for Californians in this time of need. It was projection at its worst since treating local disasters differently was one of Joe Biden's tendencies.

It is always better to be honest, lest people never believe you. That is today's lesson.

In the news:

13themorning-nl1-jumbo.jpg

Senate confirmation hearings are set this week for more than a dozen of Donald Trump’s cabinet picks. It will be a test of GOP unity and democrats' chance at civility.

Crews have made progress fighting the wildfires, but forecasters expect another round of strong winds to hit the LA area again starting today.

The outgoing FBI Director  Christopher Wray
admits in a stunning interview on CBS 60 Minutes that he has completely failed to protect America from China. There are plenty of Chinese sleeper cells in the US that could shut down all kinds of infrastructure.

Gov. Gavin Newsom suspended California’s costly and time-consuming environmental review process for homeowners and businesses whose property was damaged or destroyed.

Desperate one-percenters are dropping small fortunes on private professional fire crews to protect their mansions as California’s most expensive wildfires continue to devour some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

Danish leaders have sent private messages to President-elect Donald Trump’s team in recent days in a bid to pacify his ambitions for  taking over Greenland , according to a new report.

Copenhagen is allegedly open to allowing US military presence on the autonomous island to boost security and appease Trump, who  claimed “military coercion”  could be deployed to bring Greenland under US rule,  sources familiar with the talks told Axios .

The Danish government, which is responsible for Greenland’s defense, wants to avoid clashing with the US and hopes to assure Trump that Greenland will be safe from Russia and China without the need for American annexation, the sources added.

The US military base in Greenland is called Pituffik Space Base. It was formerly known as Thule Air Base. The base is located on the northwest coast of Greenland, 750 miles north of the Arctic Circle and 947 miles from the North Pole.
The base is home to the 12th Space Warning Squadron, which operates a Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS). It also provides support for space-based missions and is home to the DoD's northernmost deep-water port.
We have always had bases in Greenland this is nothing new, during the Cold War we have dozens of bases in Greenland.

No, it doesn't but it directly relates to Newsom being able to have a Marshall Plan to rebuild California.

As far as the water supply goes:

The department's three water tanks, which hold about a million gallons each, ran out Wednesday morning, Janisse Quiñones, chief engineer for the Los Angeles Fire Department of Water and Power told reporters at a  press conference  that day.

Lack of water is hampering LA fire battle. Why not use ocean water to fight fires?

It has a lot to do with water.

The Palisades Fire that has devastated Los Angeles  and killed at least eight people  may have reignited from scorch marks left by an earlier inferno that is believed to have been caused by fireworks set off on New Year’s Eve, according to a report.

The remnants of the New Year’s Eve fire likely could’ve been reignited by strong winds — which have made the current blazes difficult to control — even six days after it was put out,  the Washington Post reported.

As Los Angeles battles its  worst fires in history,  the fire department’s highly paid diversity head is facing an inferno of backlash after a bizarre comment surfaced in which she appears to defend DEI hiring by blaming victims.

In a video defending the department’s DEI hiring practices, Deputy Chief Kristine Larson — who heads the Equity and Human Resources Bureau — addressed accusations that female firefighters aren’t strong enough to carry a man out of a burning building.

Her response: “He got himself in the wrong place if I have to carry him out of a fire.”

The video went viral on social media after the fire department was caught  off guard and ill-prepared  when an outbreak of wildfires began to tear through the Pacific Palisades — one of the oldest and wealthiest neighborhoods in the city — last week.

The problem is demonstrated by this tragedy from the start to finish. You have about 200,000 homeless people in the greater LA area and temps are in the mid to low 30s at night and they light fires at night. Then in 2018 when there was a fire allegedly caused by one of these homeless people the mayor told a reporter to not even go there. It seems that homelessness is also now sacred along with the radical green new deal and other far left policies. So, LA started out with a mayor who ruled out such possibilities and the governor won't even discuss possible causes bad things inevitably will happen. Mayor Bass was told about the 100 mph winds, and she was aware of the water problem, but she elected to go to Africa as a DEI show, leaving her assistant who was in trouble for making a bomb threat in charge. You can get a sense of how rotten things are out in CA.
I feel badly for the Californians despite the woke crazies that they supposedly kept voting for.

Do I want to bankrupt the nation for them?  NO!

ayor Bass was told about the 100 mph winds, and she was aware of the water problem, but she elected to go to Africa as a DEI show

It's the big change we've seen in democratic local governance the last few decades. Democrats have always been  corrupt and used the government as a cash cow for friends and family. But the old school machine democrats recognized that they had to be competent and provide local services in order to get away with all the corruption at the edges. Put criminals in jail, keep finances in order, build things to satisfy citizens' needs etc... The knew they had to be competent.

Compare that to the new generation of progressives. They still excel at grifting, but instead of solving local problems they spend time whining about Israel Palestine, or trying to solve global warming, or instituting crackpot themes of restorative justice while taking jaunts to Africa for no benefit. As we've seen in California in particular, that leaves the localities to go to shit, in the case of San Francisco, literally. They've abandoned competence, or even the attempt to govern competently.  Contrast that to the hyper competence of governors like DeSantis and its no wonder people are voting with their feet to leave those areas.

And then there this Dementia riddled loudmouth - Maxine Waters:

As the California wildfires continued to consume large swaths of land, destroy homes, gut businesses, and take lives, a Democratic Congresswoman from the state went on television and offered up a galaxy-brain scapegoat.  Maxine Waters once famously  urged her supporters  to angrily confront Trump administration officials out in public.  She instructed them to "create a crowd" to "push back" in order to send a message that such people are "not welcome anymore, anywhere."  Mob tactics.  Fast forward to recent days, and she's taken to reciting a stale, partisan, irrelevant talking point as her party's leadership failures in her home state have grown increasingly undeniable.  After saying she doesn't want to assign blame earlier in the interview, she immediately  started blaming ...wealthy people for not paying their "fair taxes" because "services cost money:"

She's fixed it all.  Pay your taxes and devastating fires won't happen

Saw a brief interview with one of the firefighters who stated that the CA required fire sprinklers in homes contributed to the low water pressure and loss of water at the hydrants.  I haven't found any other sources to support or refute the veracity of the claim.  Open sprinkler systems in several thousand destroyed structures could drain a lot of water.

The claim that sprinkler systems contributed to the problem does sound plausible.
