"Settle now, and STOP this ridiculous War! IT’S ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE," Trump said in a post to Truth Social. "If we don’t make a 'deal,' and soon, I have no other choice but to put high levels of Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries."

Trump has had a busy first week and he shows no signs of slowing down. In between signing more rounds of executive orders, Trump virtually attended the "Davos Forum" yesterday. The forum is the annual meeting held by globalist elite businessmen. Trump was to say the least, blunt. He told them: “Come make your product in America and we will give you among the lowest taxes as any nation on Earth, but if you don’t make your product in America, which is your prerogative, then very simply, you will have to pay a tariff — differing amounts — but a tariff, which will direct hundreds of billions of dollars and even trillions of dollars into our treasury to strengthen our economy and pay down debt under the Trump administration.”

Trump also pushed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to increase Saudi Arabia's U.S. investment, saying he would ask the Saudis to “round out” their promised $600 billion “to around $1 trillion.” Trump said: “I think they’ll do that because we’ve been very good to them.”

That same day Trump
ordered the release of thousands of classified files on the assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK.

24themorning-nl-jfk-mlk-jumbo.jpg

Trump made a campaign pledge to make the last batch of files on the assassinations public.

He also took a few minutes to pardon nearly two dozen pro-life activists who were convicted of a federal law prohibiting the blocking of abortion clinics. One pardon involved a woman in her late 70s who was simply praying and got a two-year sentence. Trump said: “Twenty-three people were prosecuted who should not have been prosecuted. Many of them are elderly people. They should not have been prosecuted.”

During the day John Ratcliffe was confirmed as the next CIA director. Pete Hegseth is slated for a confirmation vote today.

Trump threatened to impose high tariffs on Russia if President Putin does not make an effort to end the deadly way in Ukraine.

Trump restored the designation of Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who have fired on ships in the Red Sea in solidarity with Hamas, as a terrorist organization.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials now have the power to quickly deport migrants who were allowed into the United States temporarily under Biden-era programs.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio will make his first official trip abroad next week to Central America, including a stop in Panama, which is under the gun over their handling of the Canal.

Sometime today President Trump will stop the flurry of activity around his desk and travel to North Carolina, which was not adequately taken care of after last year's hurricane damage. Then Trump will head out to California where some question the state policies that may have contributed to recent fires. Trump is also considering overhauling the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Where does he get the energy?

In other news:

A federal judge temporarily blocked Trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship. He called the order “blatantly unconstitutional.”  Hopefully the SCOTUS will finally interpret the meaning of the provision in the 14th Amendment.

A procedural Senate vote to advance Pete Hegseth's nomination for defense secretary passed, 51-49. Two Republicans — Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski — voted against it. Fortunately, the two women team's vote means far less in the new Senate.

The teenager who killed three young girls in a knife attack on a dance class in England was sentenced to life in prison.

CNN is cutting 200 jobs in its TV division as the company shifts to a digital audience.

Here in Boston, we got rid of a lot of scum yesterday:

In Newark a Puerto Rician US Veteran has been detained because he's Hispanic.

“One of the guys was a military veteran, and the way he looked to me was because he was Hispanic. He is Puerto Rican and the manager of our warehouse. It looked to me like they were specifically going after certain kinds of people — not every kind, because they did not ask me for documentation for my American workers, Portuguese workers, or white workers,” Janota said.

So a clear violation of people's 4th Amendment rights. I'm sure they will fail in due process rights as well. It's how authoritarians operate.

It's incumbent for law enforcement, including ICE, to know a fake ID from a real one. It's not like this is a new problem. If a club bouncer can spot a fake ID, how hard is it for ICE to learn? How many of those fake IDs are veteran IDs? How does a fake ID problem in CO have any bearing on someone detained in NJ?

I hope people unlawfully detained start suing the ICE Agents themselves.

Simple question, does a veteran ID show proof of citizenship? I know a military ID does not although military service can make someone eligible for naturalization.  There have been prior incidents where ex-military have been deported because they were not citizens or naturalized.

I do wish that military service would include citizenship. I think anybody who has signed that blank check and has been honorably discharged should be granted citizenship if they are not already a citizen. But that's my thoughts.

Is being Hispanic proof of NOT being a citizen? What papers are people supposed to carry with them, by law, that proves they are a US citizen? I don't carry anything about me when I'm out and about that would prove citizenship. Again, I hope people illegally detained start criminal and civil proceedings against any ICE agents involved.

That was not my question. As neither you or I were there, we are at the mercy of main-stream media and the story they put out and do not know what was asked, what ICE was looking at, etc. I will admit that just taking someone away to later check on citizenship status is troubling. But as I was not there to witness everything that happened, I'm limited in what I know.

Military service is not a guarantee of citizenship, the individual still needs to take action. I do not know every action taken by the individuals that were deported in the past and what actions they didn't take as well as any actions that were blocked by others. To be honest I've not dug into the details at the time as work was a higher priority at the time. But I also stated that it would be good with me if military service and an honorable discharge automatically granted citizenship to the individual.

We know that ICE raided a NJ business, multiple people have said, without a warrant and detained all the Hispanic workers.

We know that Puerto Rico is part of the US and doesn't require any immigration paperwork whether they are US Veterans or not.

We know the 4th Amendment does not require anyone to carry proof of citizenship when they leave home.

Therefore, we can logically arrive at the conclusion ICE illegally detained a US citizen.

We know that ICE raided a NJ business, multiple people have said, without a warrant and detained all the Hispanic workers.

And if ICE broke the law they will have to deal with the consequences. Not every enforcement operation will always be carried out perfectly. This conversation between you and me all started because you voiced that the person in question had a Veterans ID and all I did was ask if said ID proves the individual is a citizen. I have the Real ID drivers license because in May it will be required in order to fly in the US. Why did this individual not have a drivers license? That might have mitigated the issue, but we'll never know.

We know that Puerto Rico is part of the US and doesn't require any immigration paperwork whether they are US Veterans or not.

We know the 4th Amendment does not require anyone to carry proof of citizenship when they leave home.

Again, duh. How often do you leave home without your drivers license? I know I never do but that's me. If someone does not have proper ID on them, they can expect to have a hassle if asked to provide it. Same thing, if you don't have proof of auto insurance you can expect to receive a ticket that is dismissed when you show up with proof of insurance. But you have to deal with the consequences, that's just a fact of life.

Therefore, we can logically arrive at the conclusion ICE illegally detained a US citizen.

That is a conclusion, but I'm not a lawyer so I don't know all the pieces around this. Also I do not trust main stream media as far as I can throw them, I take all these stories with a grain of salt. As I'm on the other side of the country from this action I will probably never hear the follow up. I can only hope that the correct outcome is developed.

As I said above, this all started because you were talking about how the individual presented a Veterans ID and I asked if that provided proof of citizenship. From everything else that's been said on this seed, it appears that this was more of a normal targeted raid of a business that is known to employ undocumented workers. I could wish that business owners were held accountable in these cases but they seldom seem to be. I don't know why that happens but it does seem to be the norm.

What the hell is all the wishy-washy Pollyanna propa about Ukraine?  Putin is gonna care about tariffs since an embargo is in place?  Just one more sanction will turn the trick?  Really?  Trump is dodging the central important question -- why should the US give a wet fart about Ukraine?  If Trump really wanted to end the war then he'd get the fuck out of the quagmire.  The only reason the war has gone on this long has been because the US is paying for it.  Ukraine had its chance in 2014 and decided to screw its own pooch.

The rest of the fluff and folly doesn't matter because Trump has already killed future US dominance of the global economy.  We're gonna make all our money from imported digital smoke machines.  It's not possible to buy an American made computer to run AI and crypto-mining.  We're gonna be more dependent on foreign suppliers for digital assets than we've been dependent on foreign oil.  Our digital future depends upon hardware manufacturers -- not H-1B coders.  And, right now, the US is having difficulty supplying itself with eggs and bacon.

Will birthright citizenship end up going to the states?  Trump seems to be depending on a out embedded in the .

Section 5

The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

SCOTUS has been taking the position that when Congress has authority then Congress must use that authority to provide guidance.  Precedents of prior case decisions aren't enough.

The language in the 14th Amendment really does allow Congress authority over birthright citizenship.  The overt partisan politics means Congress can't act.  it's quite possible SCOTUS could refuse to act.  Which means the issue would ultimately require either letting Trump's EO stand, amending the Constitution, or the kick-the-can method of state referendums.

IMO the efforts of liberal leaning lower courts won't succeed in keeping the ultra-liberal interpretation of the birthright citizenship.  What's going to get hairy will be attempts to rescind citizenship.  IMO we can expect a shitstorm over amnesty.

I doubt the USSC is going to let trumps EO stand , I also dont think they will leave it to the states to decide citizenship , its one of the reasons the amendment was  drafted in the first place in regards to citizenship , to keep the states from deciding that matter . you have already posited that congress wont be able to get something through , that is where we disagree.

I also doubt they will refuse to take the matter up. i dont think they really have a choice , but i can be wrong here . And if they do , my thoughts are that they will simply say what " subject to the jurisdiction thereof " means in context of the clause and amendment much like they did when deciding sec 3 of the 14th and disqualification from holding office or running for office .

My thought is , once everyone is using the same meaning of  the part in question I mention , then it is on congress to decide how to act . As it is now everyone is acting on their own individual meanings and making their arguments from there  .

I mostly agree with your assessment.  Trump's EO has been crafted to force the issue.  I am still of the opinion that SCOTUS will likely kick the issue back to Congress to resolve.  But SCOTUS still has to allow a change to the status quo to force Congress to act.

I'm expecting Section 5 to factor more prominently in the SCOTUS decision on the issue.  Section 5 means the 14th Amendment is not an inviolate Constitutional requirement.  If SCOTUS doesn't assert its dominant authority on the issue then that leaves the options I mentioned earlier.

(BTW, requiring guidance from either Congress (representing the states) or voters returns the issue to the states.  The two party control over politics has stymied that function of the Constitution but it's still there.)

Asked by reporters to elaborate on the proposal, Trump said he would prefer for states to get direct payouts from the federal government rather than coordinating with FEMA.

Trump floats ‘getting rid’ of FEMA as he visits North Carolina to survey Helene damage

FEMA didn't do what they were supposed to in North Carolina, so Trump would rather give the money directly to the governors of the states involved.

And lets not forget that trump can hand out paper towels.

Seriously...I love how you trump supporters will take anything trump says, no matter how stupid and try to spin into something, "good". Hannity would be proud.

Giving money directly to governors... Socialism anyone?

I believe what he said was that he wanted states to pay for damages then have the feds reimburse. Reason behind it is the states could get funds out much quicker than the feds and are more familiar with the areas they are dealing with. Feds take way too much time getting funds to where they are needed. It has been shown many times in the past.

It makes sense and Trump is taking a serious look at it.

He allowed those people to tell their heartbreaking stories in front of the nation.

He gets nothing out of it politically. He is in his final term.

The roads still haven't been cleared out in the western sections. Trump put the Army Corps of Engineers right on it.

At the beach while the Obama people pulled all the levers of government.

May they never have such power again.
