Trump in overdrive
We’re going to do things that people will be shocked at."

Has it only been a week since Inauguration Day?

What a week it has been for President Trump. He no sooner was sworn in than he was signing executive orders in stages, the first of which was to immediately rescind all of Joe Biden's EOs. He attended every ceremonial event and by midnight, as I was about to fall off to sleep, he was dancing with his wife. He is 78 years old and loves fast food. Where does all that energy come from?

In the mammoth wake of activity:

Trump ended an Environmental Protection Agency rule that required auto manufacturers to cut greenhouse gas emissions by half in new light- and medium-duty vehicles beginning in 2027.

He signed an order withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate agreement, which former President Joe Biden had re-joined after his election four years ago.

He declared a national energy emergency aimed at boosting U.S. oil and gas production and lowering costs for U.S. consumers.

He pulled the U.S. out of the World Health Organization.

He halted the enforcement of the TikTok ban for 75 days in order to make some kind of acceptable business arrangement.

He declared a national border emergency and ICE was arresting & deporting people on day 1. Most recently he put the leader of Columbia on notice that Columbia WILL take their people back.

The US government will now only recognize two genders: male & female.

He implemented a freeze on creating new federal regulations and a separate freeze on hiring new federal workers. He also directed federal employees to return to in-person work.

About 160 National Security Council employees were told to stay home while their positions were evaluated, and about 15 senior Justice Department officials who might be difficult to fire were reassigned. The previous DOJ reform agreements with police departments were scrapped. The security clearances were revoked for the 51 intelligence officials who tried to interfere with the 2020 election. He also revoked the security clearance and security detail for John Bolton and Anthony Fauci. And in a surprise to everyone he freed even the most violent of the rioters who assaulted the Capitol 4 years ago. Biden gave him plenty of cover on the Jan 6th pardons when Joe pardoned his own family on the way out the door.

Trump will likely force the SCOTUS to decide if those who wrote the 14th Amendment really intended for migrants to abuse the idea of "birthright citizenship" which many believe was written for the children of newly freed slaves.

Over the weekend, Trump got up from his desk and got on a plane to North Carolina to not only aid those still suffering from a hurricane that hit 4 months ago but to also let the nation hear from those people and to let everyone know they aren't going to be forgotten. Then he got back on a plane and went out to California where he surveyed the damage there. He met with state officials and discussed not only how to aid their residents, but how to prevent future wildfire disasters.

Once again, as I got into bed and put on the news, I saw him out in Las Vegas reminding people that he would cut taxes on tips.

26themorning-nl-jan2-jumbo.jpg

In the news:

The Trump administration began raids in Chicago. Local officials WERE NOT notified before they happened.

Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians began walking home to northern Gaza. Trump recommended that the countries of Egypt and Jordan help take some of them in. Both countries refused. They want no part of the Palestinians.

World leaders and Holocaust survivors are gathering today to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

Italy restarted its program of sending asylum seekers to Albania.

Trump and Vladimir Putin have signaled that they want to begin negotiations on the devastating Ukraine war.

A brutal rebel militia backed by Rwanda announced that it captured the city of Goma in the eastern Congo.

China is building a large dam in earthquake-prone Tibet. All the countries to the south are deeply concerned.

Good morning.

This weekend, Scots celebrated Burns Night, a holiday honoring the 18th-century poet Robert Burns.

Human beings are fallen creatures.  We can tell that from simple observation, but also, if you believe in it, from Christian religious teaching. Major Protestant denominations say the only path to personal salvation is to accept oneself as a sinner and beg forgiveness from God. Some of them, including quite prominent "leaders" even say natural disasters have been punishment from God for man's sinfulness.  So is all of human history "bad" ?  A lot of it has been filled with cruelty, violence and exploitation, oh lets not forget greed.  History is also filled with optimism, progress , compassion and a reach toward equality. History is everything all at once.

The chances that trumpism will be anything lasting are almost zero, as the history of recent centuries has been toward progress. Trumpism is not progress. Trump clearly wants to revert America and the world back to the 1800's era of robber barons, human exploitation, and blatant nationalism.  His efforts may have the temporary sheen of success, but it surely will be temporary.

It is a major change, and it will be world-wide.

That's great until it's not.  Despite what Marx may have told you, history doesn't have an agenda, have a "right side" or move towards any goal.  Civilizations rise and fall. Barbarians win.  Things can get worse for centuries.  History doesn't care and doesn't affect outcomes.

They learned facts.   They learned the fundamentals of their chosen field.   They learned how to think critically.

Yes there are liberal professors but it is important to be rational about these matters.   There is no grand conspiracy where universities are trying to turn everyone liberal.   What you are seeing, IMO, is some of the consequences of people seeing the world differently and, I would argue, with more clarity.

History reveals that we do indeed do many bad things as a species.   That, however, should be no surprise.   But some facts may shock people who chose to not pursue higher education.   For example, Christopher Columbus is portrayed as some kind of hero.   The positive side is that he was a successful explorer.   The negative, however, is that he was a brutal exploiter of indigenous peoples.

It is best to be aware of reality ... the good and the bad.   It is dangerous to operate on warped or incomplete knowledge as that leads to bad decisions ... with consequences.

Partial and false realities have brought US Divided, cause forever you can't hide it, and when the truth is finally discovered, just like US per A Christopher Columbus exploited, Trump has and will continue to be the exploiter without a detour that I can see, cause his cult can't handle the chore, required to break free, as they need more than a pitcher to paint what it is from what it ain't, in order to break through that wall that Mexico didn't pay for, we need a saint Bernard to Cujo back the reality lost to those who can't or refuse to see, what this fckn asz has done to our country, tis of thee...

The fact is that something is wrong in academia. The self-anointed have assumptions about things, which among other things, makes them very vulnerable to trendy nonsense because they are not connected to real things. They don't know people who work with their hands. Those who comprise the working class may not know the laws of the universe, but they are tied to real things. They are full of common sense. It underscores the division in the country.

As an example, take the worker (of any race or ethnicity) who says I'm not going to allow a man into the locker room or rest room of my 12-year-old daughter. It shouldn't even be debatable, but the people with silly ideas floating in their heads want to subject young girls to it.

There are problems in pretty much every domain, Vic.   Nowhere do we find perfection.   But it is absurd to categorically hold academia bad and downplay the value of degrees.

They don't know people who work with their hands.

Such bullshit.  You merely presume that teachers are all silver-spoon liberals who never had to work hard or work with their hands.   And, worse, that they do not even associate with those who work with their hands.

As an example, take the worker (of any race or ethnicity) who says I'm not going to allow a man into the locker room or rest room of my 12-year-old daughter. It shouldn't even be debatable, but the people with silly ideas floating in their heads want to subject young girls to it.

Yes there are people who definitely are on the extreme:  left and right.   By context, you seem to be suggesting that it is mostly academics and well-educated individuals who support allowing a human being with an attached penis to shower and change in a locker room with 12 year old girls.   Do you have stats to back this up?   I truly doubt that most people in the USA find that to be a good idea.

Here’s what Trump border czar Tom Homan thinks about Selena Gomez’s viral post sobbing over ICE raids

Border czar Tom Homan said Monday night the Trump administration has “no apologies” for the ICE raids targeting illegal migrants in the US when asked about   Selena Gomez’s since-deleted Instagram   post in which she sobbed over the law enforcement action.

“All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise,” Gomez said in the video.

He signed an order withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate agreement

That's $11 BILLION a year saved.

He pulled the U.S. out of the World Health Organization.

Another $85 billion a year saved.

He declared a national border emergency and ICE was arresting & deporting people on day 1.

Making the streets of this country safer by removing murderers, rapists, child rapists, terrorists and human traffickers.  The money saved from the Paris Climate agreement and WHO could pay for all the flights.

He also directed federal employees to return to in-person work.

That should cut the number of federal employees.  Saving more money.

The security clearances were revoked for the 51 intelligence officials who tried to interfere with the 2020 election.

They never thought their actions would have consequences.

It's long overdue for the people of western NC and eastern TN to get some much needed aid.  This time without the political bullshit we saw pre-election.  It's also funny knowing Newsome did some serious sucking up to the POTUS with his hand out asking for money knowing they just passed another anti-Trump bill.

On his first day:

President Donald Trump signed an executive order temporarily suspending all U.S. foreign assistance programs for 90 days pending reviews to determine whether they are aligned with his policy goals.

The Haitian leadership has expressed concerns over these policies, indicating that they could be 'catastrophic' for Haiti, potentially due to the combination of losing aid and the return of deportees.

Does that mean that the Haitian government thinks that sending more Haitians to Haiti will be a “catastrophe” for Haiti?

Hegseth belongs to a white nationalist church.

From left leaning fact checker " Snopes:"

  • Social media posts alleged that Pete Hegseth, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for defense secretary, wears white supremacist, Christian nationalist or Nazi tattoos.

  • Hegseth has about 12 tattoos on his right arm and chest, all but one of which (the exception is an indistinct symbol that appears to represent the numeral "7") are clear references to his military service and patriotism, and to his Christian faith.

  • Contrary to rumor, none of the tattoos is a swastika. There is no evidence that any of Hegseth's tattoos represent a sympathy for or commitment to white supremacist or Nazi views.

  • Two of Hegseth's Christian-based tattoos use symbology that has become associated with — but doesn't necessarily indicate adherence to —   Christian nationalist   views. Historically, both tattoos have connections to the Crusades, a series of wars in which Christian armies sought to reclaim the Holy Land from Muslim rule in the 11th-13th centuries.

Surprised the left has not used the narrative that he wants to wipe out all Muslims......because he has tattoos.

White christian nationalism is extremism.

Look.  We get it.  Hegseth isn't a DEI hire.  You're having moment of "outrage" over it.  The DEI hire lost the election.  Time to deal with reality now.

That church,   Pilgrim Hill Reformed Fellowship   in Goodlettsville, Tenn., is part of the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches, a network of churches linked to Wilson and his theology.

Wilson leads Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho. The   Idaho Capital-Sun   says of him: “Wilson and his allies have a rigid patriarchal belief system and don’t believe in the separation of church and state. They support taking away the right to vote from most women, barring non-Christians from holding office and criminalizing the LGBTQ community.”

Hegseth has multiple ties to Wilson and the various enterprises he’s founded and influences.

It's Pete Hegseth's theology that ought to concern us – Baptist News Global

Lol. Thank God, I think they are done with Hegseth. Later in the week they'll attack one who used to be one of their own.

Congressman Kevin Kiley, R-California, has introduced a bill that would prevent states such as California from allowing illegal immigrants to enroll in Medicaid. Kiley estimates this would save California $6.5 billion per year; in January 2024, the state expanded Medicaid enrollment to include all illegal immigrants.
