Control tower staffing at Ronald Reagan National Airport was “not normal” on the night of  the collision  that killed 67 people, the  Associated Press  said, citing a report from the Federal Aviation Administration .   The  New York Times  reported that a controller on duty Wednesday night was doing the job of two employees when a passenger jet hit a military helicopter, killing all aboard both aircraft in the worst US air disaster in decades.

The accident took place as the American Airlines plane prepared to land at Ronald Reagan airport—a facility known for having the “ busiest runway in America .”

The news came as transportation officials began to lay out the scope of their investigation this afternoon. But earlier in the day, President Donald Trump was already trying to  assign blame without evidence .

As emergency personnel worked to remove the dead from the Potomac River, Trump sought to blame Democrats, his predecessor Joe Biden, Biden’s transportation secretary and the pilots of the military helicopter for the crash. Ultimately, the 78-year-old Republican and some of his aides  pointed to diversity, equity and inclusion policies , one of the main targets of his new administration.

Apparently there is a shortage of flight controllers that are needed not just at Ronald Reagon airport, but across the nation.

That is correct, there is a large shortage of ATC nationwide.

Apparently it's a high stress job with long hours. Not many people want to do that.

If many want to do it, then is the shortage because few are capable of doing it?

What is horrible is that in his comment about the crash he made a JOKE - when asked if he would attend that scene wherein both airplanes fell into the Potomac River, he replied that he wasn't a swimmer.  What kind of human is that man so many voted for?

Yesterday, a friend made a comment on Facebook about how despicable Trump's comments about the crash were.

And promptly got jumped by a Trumper who accused her of being hateful.

The Trumper implied that Kamala Harris would have made similar statements.

So, to Trumpers, Trump gets by with despicable behavior, but Kamala Harris gets called out even though she never engaged in such behavior.  They just like to believe she would have.  And anybody who calls Trump out on his hateful and divisive rhetoric is accused of being hateful.

And they see no problem with either their behavior, or Trump's.

This same Trumper wonders why her online friends are disappearing.

So it wasn't Haitian or Mexican illegal immigrants-- or "Jewish Space Lasers"--  after all?

What I can't understand is why training soldiers in helicopters has to happen so close to a busy airport - it's a INVITATION to tragedy.

It only took Trump an hour or so to blame minorities for the fatal crash. Even for him that is some kind of record. As always Trump, white is right.

What minorities would that be? It's also common knowledge that to "level the playing field" the left supports lowered employment standards.

There is a a class action lawsuit against the FAA for denying a few hundred qualified applicants jobs so they can meet "diversity targets".

The actual investigation is still ongoing.  There seems to may have been problems across the board that lead up to this collision.  NONE of which seem to stem from the political stance many seem to be sadly taking with zero proof.

The whole system and practices need to be updated. These staffing and other issues have been going on for a long time

Those resignations in your link predate November 5th so the mere idea of the left crying that "Trump did this" is out the window.

When looking at the DC crash, it's already known that tower was short personnel as well (possibly predating November 5th as well).  Couple that with the possibility that both aircraft could have been flying at the wrong altitude and a long list of other possibilities as the to the root cause of the crash, we won't know much for a while.

I don't see the problem as political, IMO the RESPONSE was political,

I don't see the problem as political

Neither do I.  But in a knee jerk action, sadly the political side is all we'll see from many.
