Chief Justice John Roberts rebukes Trump after president calls for US judge's impeachment

WASHINGTON −   The growing clash   between   President Donald Trump   and the judiciary took a major turn Tuesday as Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts delivered a rare rebuke after   Trump   called for the impeachment of a federal judge.

“For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision,” Roberts said in a statement. “The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.”

Roberts' comment came after Trump on Tuesday called for the impeachment of a federal judge who tried to stop the Republican administration from   deporting hundreds of alleged Venezuelan gang members   via the Alien Enemies Act, a 1798 law last used during World War II.

Trump, in a social media post, referred to  Chief U.S. Judge James Boasberg in Washington D.C ., who was appointed by former President Barack Obama, as a "a troublemaker and agitator."

Trump said unlike himself, the judge did not win all seven battleground states in the 2024 presidential election en route to an "OVERWHELMING MANDATE" that Trump said was centered on his promise to fight llegal immigration.

"I’m just doing what the VOTERS wanted me to do. This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!" Trump said in his post on Truth Social. "WE DON’T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

Boasberg tried to  temporarily block  deportation flights on Saturday through oral and written orders. But lawyers for the Venezuelans said two flights left Texas for Honduras and El Salvador.

Justice Department lawyers have refused the judge’s demand that they provide information about the flights.

Lee Gelernt, a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union which is representing the Venezuelans, said the administration appeared to have defied the judge’s order.

“There’s been a lot of talk during the last several weeks about a constitutional crisis, throwing that term around,” Gelernt said. “I think we’re getting very close to it.”

A Justice Department lawyer, Abhishek Kambli, told Boasberg his written order was not valid if it was issued after the flights had crossed into international territory. The Justice Department said the judge’s oral order was also unenforceable.

Trump is relying on the  1798 Alien Enemies Act  for authority to remove the Venezuelans. The act allows the deportation of anyone from a designated enemy country who is not a naturalized citizen.

The administration argues the Venezuelans are members of a gang called  Tren de Aragua  and are a national security threat.

But Boasberg said the Alien Enemies Act does not "provide a basis for the president's proclamation given that the terms invasion, predatory incursion really relate to hostile acts perpetrated by any nation and commensurate to war."

that makes me giggle at the gaggle you gargle, cause it is a fowl comparison of two different species, cause Trump is more like feces in the face of Obamas reasons for actually attempting to truly protect our country. Trump wants to truly OWN our country, as he already OWNS so many of its' citizens and they are unable to fly the coop, cause chickens have wings, but cannot fly, even when hot. On the sauce is where it seems sum bee, and it stings when a stork mistakes your dork for a small mouth trout filled with pork, cause if you base your argument on a Billy Big Mouth Bass who plays the Bass while running in place of a small mouth to better fit their schtick, they can sometimes be an ass, but better than a small Orange un endowed bass  turd gonna be wild cause he's haveing a fit that doesn't in our filled in with #2 oval office, as he shits on his throne, and our Country !

One was a drone strike on the known radical terrorist, and key organizer of al-Qaeda, Anwar al-Awlaki that accidently took the life of Awlaki's 16 year old son who did have American citizenship. Lets start here, who told you that? Surely you can show me a verdict or some type of judicial review where an American Citizen was found guilty, then killed and his execution ordered? or are you trusting the word of an administration that just declared it so? And al-Awlaki's son was NOT killed in the drone strike that killed his father, that was a separate murder.

It will go nowhere. But thanks for confirming that MAGA is fighting like hell to be the "big Man" (White male dominated. . . and not to be forgotten—Conservative, that intends for every 'orifice' of the government to be stuffed with it's whims. We will not conform.

Chief Justice Roberts is a white male conservative, the only question not clear (yet) is just how far he is willing to go to be "dominating."

This goes right to the heart of his third branch of government. The executive is taking the third branch of the federal system on, now that it is clear that the GOP is whipped and standing at attention for Trump orders, and have stifled the democrats in the midst of the house and senate.

Republicans, y'all are not well represented by your own now. MAGA has eaten the entirety of your will and has become tamed by a 'lion' in the White house.

That said, CJ Roberts gave no indication that he is onboard to defend the courts beneath the SCOTUS, for he is someone, himself, of an opinion that the unitary executive should have 99.99 free reign to govern. . . even it it harms others and apparently the country as a whole.

For a criminal contempt charge, I expect there would need to be a hearing. Then the question is who, specifically, is in contempt? The president? He’s probably immune. Some ICE agent? Airplane pilots? Trying to determine that will take years, I would guess.

IMO the main problem with America's judicial system is that the judges carry their typically American political bias with them into the courtroom.  You have conservative judges and liberal judges when all the judges should be NON-POLITICAL in hearing and deciding cases.   Seeking out judges who have the right political bias to try a case is something unheard of in Canada.  Having a SCotUS that is biased conservative or biased liberal depending on who does the appointing is a joke.  But then it's all just a reflection of a politically divided country wherein devisive politics and the devisive opinions they create is the meal of the day.  If you feel that serves you well, you're welcome to it.

Democrats spend the last 5 decades threatening (even trying to kill) , demeaning, and plotting to impeach "conservative" justices and we've seen their elected officials beg  the President to ignore Supreme Court rulings,  and then act surprised when "progressive" judges are treated as nothing but partisan activists.

It's almost like spending decades attacking the judicial system will cause others to follow suit. Who could ever have foreseen this? Almost as astounding as spending 20 years claiming every Presidential election Democrats  lose was stolen would eventually cause a Republican to do the same and for  the public to doubt the integrity of elections.
