The scandal that wasn't
"What it was we believe is somebody that was on the line with permission, somebody that was with Mike Walz – worked for Mike Walz at a lower level, had I guess Goldberg's number, called through the app, and somehow this guy ended up on the call.

Link to quote: Donald Trump Reveals How Signal Group Chat Leak Happened

About a week ago one of the most discredited liars in the msm somehow was added to a group chat in which senior Cabinet officials discussed airstrikes on Houthi terrorists in Yemen. The individual was Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic and creator of hoaxes and lies about Donald Trump. Goldberg sat on the information he got from the meeting for about a week until President's Trump's intelligence chiefs were scheduled to appear in front of a Senate Committee. Then he dumped the story and Senate democrats used it to grill Trump's intel leaders.

The left has made much of this though the app was encrypted and allowed by the CIA. It was a conversation between members of cabinet members concerning the attack on the Houthis, which was totally successful. No secrets were lost, and the administration just got a wakeup call. The President said his National Security Advisor just learned a valuable lesson.

Last night Laura Ingraham asked National Security Advisor Michael Waltz how it could be that somebody like Goldberg had his number included in the call. Waltz kept saying that another number must have led to his number. Ingraham persisted saying that it was incredible that his number would be included, but Waltz said he trusted his staff and he takes full responsibility:

"I take full responsibility. I built the group," Waltz said on  "The Ingraham Angle"  Tuesday. "It's embarrassing. We're going to get to the bottom of it."

"I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but of all the people out there. Somehow this guy – who has lied about the president, who has lied to Gold Star families, lied to their attorneys and gone to Russia hoax, gone to just all kinds of lengths to lie and smear the president of the United States – and he's the one that somehow gets on somebody's contact and then gets sucked into this group."

NSA Mike Waltz takes responsibility for 'embarrassing' Signal chat leak | Fox News

Hopefully "Big Balls" is getting to the bottom of how Goldberg was in on the call. There is almost zero chance that it was an accident.

In other news:

A deal was reached between Ukraine and Russia to “eliminate the use of force” in the Black Sea, as well as end strikes on energy facilities, marking one of the more significant steps the Trump administration has seen toward a stop in fighting. The agreement will “ensure safe navigation” and “prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes” in the Black Sea, a critical waterway for Ukraine’s exports.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday that promises to bring major changes to the voting process in the U.S. The executive order said the U.S. “fails to enforce basic and necessary election protections” and accused former President Joe Biden’s Justice Department of not prioritizing the vetting of voters’ citizenship in recent elections. The order aims to make changes to the voting registration process, voter records and voting systems. It is likely the order will be challenged in court,  The Wall Street Journal  reported.

An appeals court allowed the U.S. to pause admission of new refugees, but it also ordered the government to admit thousands of people granted refugee status before January.

The Senate confirmed Martin Makary to the lead the F.D.A., and Jay Bhattacharya as director of the National Institutes of Health.

President Trump pardoned Devon Archer a former business associate of Hunter Biden who testified in Republicans’ investigation into the Biden family.

The Trump administration barred 80 more firms mostly from China, from buying American technology because of national security concerns.

Good morning and welcome to the news

It appears that the devious Jeff Goldberg overpromised and underdelivered.

There is an old adage I recall:  "If you lose your money, you lost something. If you lose your health, you lost a lot. But if you lose your integrity, you've lost everything."

Goldberg lost his integrity long ago.

it's also evident that they're lying when they stray off topic into what about territory during the hearings ...

I believe that Hegseth would be the one to classify information on this subject, so I think we can believe that no classified information was discussed. But it was sensitive information none the less. Had the Houthis had the information on what aircraft were going to be overhead at what time, the results could have been different. Doesn't the federal government have a better process for encrypting text messages than to use an open source system for this?

But the full text messages released today do recognize an issue that I pointed out years ago. If we ever heard the behind-closed-doors discussion of any administration, some would be very upset to hear how they talk about supposed friends. Just reinforces the saying that countries do not have friends, they have interests.

I've heard something along those lines.

This just came in: The same Obama judge that got the lawsuit on deporting the Venezuelan gang members, was assigned to preside over  a lawsuit  alleging that Trump cabinet secretaries and national security aides violated federal record-keeping laws when they used a Signal chat group to discuss a planned military strike in Yemen.

This is Nazi Germany level lying.

John Kelly specifically said that everything Goldberg wrote about Trump saying "suckers and losers" was true. Kelly was the source and he should know what was said.

Kelly confirmed multiple stories that had previously been reported with anonymous sourcing, including  pieces that Jeffrey Goldberg wrote   for The Atlantic . Kelly laid out what he saw as who Trump is in relation to those who’ve served in the military.

“A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all ‘suckers’ because ‘there is nothing in it for them,’” Kelly said. “A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because ‘it doesn’t look good for me.’ A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family — for all Gold Star families — on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France.”

Goldberg made that story up. We also recall the pushback he got on the Vanessa Guillen story.

For those who forgot, Vanessa was a 20-year-old army private. She was murdered at Fort Hood. Trump invited her family to the Oval Office in July of 2020. Goldberg made an issue out of whether Trump paid for the funeral.

Guillén sister posted on Twitter, ‘Wow, I don’t appreciate how you’re exploiting my sister’s death for politics. Hurtful and disrespectful to the important changes she made for service members.’ And she noted that she voted for Donald Trump.

John Kelly, the longest-serving White House chief of staff for  Donald Trump , offered his harshest criticism yet of the former president in an exclusive statement to CNN.

Kelly set the record straight with on-the-record confirmation of a number of damning stories about statements Trump made behind closed doors attacking US service members and veterans, listing a number of objectionable comments Kelly witnessed Trump make firsthand.

“What can I add that has not already been said?” Kelly said, when asked if he wanted to weigh in on his former boss in light of recent comments made by other former Trump officials. “A person that thinks those who defend their country in uniform, or are shot down or seriously wounded in combat, or spend years being tortured as POWs are all ‘suckers’ because ‘there is nothing in it for them.’ A person that did not want to be seen in the presence of military amputees because ‘it doesn’t look good for me.’ A person who demonstrated open contempt for a Gold Star family – for all Gold Star families – on TV during the 2016 campaign, and rants that our most precious heroes who gave their lives in America’s defense are ‘losers’ and wouldn’t visit their graves in France.

It really is exhausting dealing with abject morons or the intentionally obtuse on a daily basis. You can take a moron to knowledge, but you can't make them think. You have to remember, these are folk who have decided to reject facts and reality all in the name of a beloved brand, the Trump brand, and there simply isn't anything anyone can say that will make them give up their brand.

They're like those whackos on American Pickers that they run into every now and then who are obsessed with Disney or Coca Cola and have every kitschy nick knack and sign, mirror or oversized telephone that their favorite brand ever sold. You can't expect to talk someone like that out of their weird obsession.

And clearly these folks are obsessed with Donald Trump who they believe can do no wrong, and even if he does something wrong, his sycophants claim he meant to do it and it was really a good thing and everyone else is crazy. But not their Donald, no sir, not their Dear Leader, everything he touches turns to gold in their minds. Sure, it's spray-painted gold and has zero substance, but his supporters just gobble it up like it's mana from heaven.

So yes, interacting with the garbage is mostly futile and pointless. Mostly. But then again, when the rational world stops calling out the bullshit, the bullshit wins.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has hit back at left-wing Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett after she mocked his use of a wheelchair, claiming the Democrats have “nothing to sell but hate.”

The firebrand Texas Rep. was slammed after  she branded Abbott “Governor Hot Wheels”  on Saturday during a Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Los Angeles.

Abbott, who has used a wheelchair since 1984 when a tree fell on his back in a freak accident, brushed aside Crockett’s nasty jibe in an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” late on Tuesday.

“It’s another day and another disaster by the Democrats. The reality is they have no vision, no policy. They have nothing to sell but hate, and Americans are not buying it,” he told host Sean Hannity. “It’s one reason why Texas is going to remain red.”

What's hilarious it that the blogger site editor-in-chief actually said:

Third sentence in my article:

Goldberg sat on the information he got from the meeting for about a week until President's Trump's intelligence chiefs were scheduled to appear in front of a Senate Committee.

I don't see how this one will survive a court challenge. As I understand it, states are responsible for the management of the election process. While the federal government does have some responsibility, the bulk of ownership is on the states.

The tempest in the Yemeni dallah is actually three separate stories.

First, there was a serious security breach but that has nothing to do with what the group discussed.  Had the group been discussing office furniture, the security breach would not have been less severe.  Somebody's head has to roll for this screw up.

Second, the use of Signal for such communication provides another bit of evidence that a 'Deep State' really does exist.  The intelligence community utilizing communication channels outside of oversight should ring an alarm bell or two.  Jeffery Goldberg supposedly being accidentally included in the group discussion indicates how closely the intelligence community works with main stream media.  The fact the Goldberg could be inadvertently included raises questions about how much propaganda and psyops has been embedded in what the public ingests as news reports.

Thirdly, what Jeffrey Goldberg did wasn't journalism.  Goldberg was trying to create a news story that wasn't there.  Goldberg wasn't just reporting the facts; Goldberg twisted those facts to publish and disseminate his opinions as news.  And those opinions were either based on Goldberg's own ignorance or were designed to intentionally mislead an ignorant audience.

How Jeff Goldberg got into a confidential approx. 15-person group chat we may never know. Some may think there is a mole somewhere in the Trump security team. When I listened to National Security Advisor Michael Waltz the other night, he was willing to accept ultimate responsibility, and he told Laura Ingraham that he was sure that no one in his staff was responsible. That leads to the question of whether Waltz trusted Goldberg? That would really be strange.

As for Goldberg who claims he didn't know how he was allowed in, he told nobody that he was in on something that he shouldn't be. He had no security clearance. What Goldberg did was to listen in stealthily since March 15 waiting for a big scoop or a chance to embarrass the Trump administration. He thought the attack on the Houthis was it. Unfortunately for him, the attack was very successful, and the entire Trump intelligence organization is now a lot wiser.

I know that many on the left are very excited, but the "story" only lasted 48 hours.

"Good night and good luck."

he was invited. why would he ask why he was invited? as a media person, why wouldn't he assume he was there in that capacity?

He had no security clearance.

how many trump supporters so far have claimed that there was no classified information involved in the group chat, despite the CIA's request that mr goldberg withhold the release of a segment of the "not classified" chat that mr goldberg then complied with?

What Goldberg did was to listen in stealthily since March 15 waiting for a big scoop or a chance to embarrass the Trump administration. He thought the attack on the Houthis was it.

isn't listening what media people are supposed to be doing? I didn't see a Q & A session for media on that group chat.

Unfortunately for him, the attack was very successful

maybe it was pure luck, or due to the limited amount of any warning times or the ability for the opposition to react due to time and distances involved if intercepted.

the entire Trump intelligence organization is a lot wiser.

hopefully, and exponentially, based upon the incredible and amateurish lapse of security displayed, this time ...

I know that many on the left are very excited, but the "story" only lasted 48 hours.

it still doesn't explain why trump cabinet officials are violating the law by avoiding the archiving of their meetings.

Or he listened as any reporter would do and then decided NOT to release the information prior to the execution of the operation.   Which correlates with the facts.

You presume Goldberg wanted the mission to fail (presumably with military casualties).   Why?   The Trump administration is embarrassed by its fundamental failure to follow national security protocols which makes them look like irresponsible amateurs (and that is likely the reality of it given Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense).   No need for a mission to fail to achieve embarrassment if that was Goldberg's objective.

It is also possible that Goldberg's objective was to blow the whistle on a very dangerous practice which compromises our national security.   If so, you should be applauding the man.

That is obviously not true. Golberg has a long history of radical activism. To claim his actions had anything to do with journalism or public service is laughable.

This is not something that is unique to the Trump administration. The proper way to handle anything that requires secrecy is in secured rooms, where it’s very difficult for foreign powers to penetrate them. You can’t bring your personal devices into these rooms, which are not connected to the web. The problem is that when there are 15 officials that you want in on the conversation and some are in different countries, it is impossible to do that.

It is also possible that Goldberg's objective was to blow the whistle on a very dangerous practice which compromises our national security.

No, that is not a possibility.

However, I am fairly certain that the Signal Chat system (used under Biden and ok'd by the CIA) is now dead.

It is clearly true.   He did in fact listen and did not release any information until after the operation had concluded.

The problem is that when there are 15 officials that you want in on the conversation and some are in different countries, it is impossible to do that.

Wrong.   The government has myriad methods to secure communication remotely.   And in the situation where the envoy is unprepared (e.g. cannot even create a portable SCIF,  secured tent, or access a secured network (e.g. SIPRNet or JWICS) with a secured device) and cannot relocate to a SCIF, then the operative should NOT PARTICIPATE.

No, that is not a possibility.

You should know that anyone who makes that statement is logically wrong.   Don't rule out every possibility.   That is absurd.

It is also cynical as hell to think that Goldberg is not interested in helping to prevent a major security breach like this from happening again.

What does Trump or his administration have to do before you will recognize fault?

Of course not, Biden would have never sent special operators to free hostages held by Hamas and then post their pictures with their faces and tattoos displayed for the entire world to see putting their lives at risk in a war zone.......Right?

White House posts – then deletes – photo outing special operators working to free Hamas hostages

Not even remotely close.

You seem to ignore that this buffoon:

  • started multiple trade wars rather than take steps to lower prices ... the key factor on which he was elected
  • nominated several entirely unqualified, incompetent individuals like Hegseth for seriously important positions
  • not only failed to stop the Ukraine war as president elect with a phone call (of course we know that was bullshit) but has shown himself to be entirely incompetent in genuine negotiation by stupidly weakening the position of Ukraine in direct opposition to the principle of peace through strength
  • has engaged in multiple firings of federal employees only to have to rehire them and has been hatcheting the federal staff with effects to be seen in the coming months (gird your loins)
  • has attempted to violate the CotUS (e.g. jus soli) and myriad laws (e.g. invalid use of the Alien Enemies Act to bypass due process)
  • has proposed a ridiculous resort plan for Gaza where the USA takes control and turns it into the Riviera of the Middle East
  • has damaged international relationships with his tariffs and threats of taking back the Panama Canal and securing Greenland.   And of course his gratuitous trolling and tariffs on Canada.
  • has irresponsibly (because he is an asshole) removed security detail for key individuals and removed security clearances
  • has made the USA look like a bunch of idiots for voting such a vindictive, incompetent, loose-cannon asshole as PotUS

And that is just off the top of my head ... and Trump is just getting started.

Do not speak of gross incompetence.   Trump not only is the most prolific liar of our times, but he has shown himself to be arguably the most incompetent PotUS we have ever had.   Certainly the worst in our lifetimes.
