Man riddled with tapeworms after eating bad sushi

Story here

GUANGDONG PROVINCE, China - A Chinese man going to a doctor complaining of stomach aches and itchy skin was horrified to learn his body had become riddled with disgusting tapeworms, according to various international reports.

A doctor at a hospital in Guangzhou told the website ThatsMags.com the man was likely suffering from cysticercosis, which occurs when tapeworms enter a person's bloodstream. It can be fatal if the tapeworms reach the brain.

The man told doctors he'd consumed sashimi (raw fish sliced into thin pieces) recently and it's believed the fish was contaminated with tapeworm eggs.

Several X-rays of the patient, appearing on the website hk.on.cc , show the man's body filled with the tiny parasites.

I dont know that the diagnosis is correct... and the infection is definitely older than a few days ...

I dont think this was from fish.

But I'm not a doctor (not medical) or have the patient.

I love good sushi. I indulge at least once per week.

Hmmm - the link discusses the pork tapeworm. Kinda curious how that translates to fish/sushi?

I've never eaten that sort of sushi, but I love the rarest ahi tuna. Flame kissed is nice, but there's a place here that serves it completely raw, but 'cooked' with lime juice, which supposedly serves the same purpose as cooking with flame, and it is delicious.Sometimes I see sushi wrapped up for sale in gas stations, and I think wtf?! Who would eat that!

That's why I said I didnt know if the diagnosis was correct. The extent is also more than a "recent" eating experience... at least in my definition of "recent" eating.

I said diagnosis... I meant root cause... oops

I'm confused - is spitting food out and asking for a refund considered good manners or bad manners?

Well... Gordon Ramsey does it (with colorful cursing)... so... it's considered fine dining??

Sushi is disgusting and nasty. I've eaten it once and that was enough. I'm a Scot. Chase it down, kill it, skin it, boil it. See how easy? I'd rather have haggis.

Haggis? That explains the gas mask.

Ugh.

I've eaten sushi, and thought it was ok. Not something I'd select from a menu, but I can eat it if served, kind of thing. Then, my son joined the Eastern Culture Club, and they made sushi at one of their meetings. He made sushi and brought me something wrapped in kelp. Remember how my own Daddy manfully ate the "gravy" I made one night, (I had used too much flour and it resembled a fried dumpling), I ate it.

Oh my gosh. It was as if I had eaten bits of knife blades, because it sliced and diced its way through my digestive system and I was sick for 3 days...

I don't know how fast tapeworms grow, but I certainly hope that this poor man can get some medicine to take that will kill them, and not him.

Did you notice the little tiny penis in the x ray? Poor guy. Now his little tiny penis is all over the internet for everyone to see.

One good thing. There are so many people in China, it would be hard to find him and point him out... Smile.gif
