Here in China the photos you see above are everyday, everywhere. It is a scourge. I recall being at a banquet of 18 family members of my nephew's Chinese wife around a big round table and I was not surprised that about 2/3rds of them were reading or texting messages and playing games - there was almost no conversation.
But that doesn't mean it's not just as crazy in western countries. I recall eating in a Chinese restaurant in Toronto when at a big round table near me with about 10 people around it I saw two young men opposite each other talking on their cell-phones. Then I saw that they both started to laugh at the same time, looking at each other, and I realized they were talking to each other - on the phone.
It's only possible that Einstein really said that, because it does not seem to be recorded anywhere other than in conjecture. However, Perrie, Einstein has been (falsely?) credited with another similar quotation and you almost got it:
"It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded (or "surpassed") our humanity."
This, is merely the beginning. Within just a generation or two, miniaturized robotics, implanted computer hardware, DNA manipulation ...........and we'll be looking back at the above pictures with amusement.
My wife and daughter are pure techie nuts. Their phones are glued to their hands, the Ipods/Ipads/laptops sitting next to them and they get FURIOUS with me and my "lack of technology".
I've got a basic phone - dial, talk, hang-up - and a very, very rare text. Just having a "mobile" on me drives me nuts.

The question is whether individuals are masters of the technology they have access to or are slaves to it.
Hope this one shows up for you Buzz.
