I had a domestic shorthair tuxedo male cat for 17 years, and a female Soft-Coated Wheaton Terrier for 17 years, both lived beyond their average respective old age since they were very well cared for. Loved them both, but I had the cat for many years before I married, and he was my buddy.
Forgot one thing - some dogs eat their poop, cats never eat their poop. I always thought that was very odd behavior for an organism with a highly developed sense of smell.
Well, I can't do without either one. We have both cats and dogs. My dogs give me things that my cats can't, and my cats give me things my dogs can't. I can't imagine life without my dogs and cats, and have never seen the big argument of one over the other. They are BOTH wonderful!
I have 2 Corgis and they are great dogs. I've had lots of cats, too. Both are great creatures to have around.

I have 2 Shih Tzu's...I have had other dogs, and I have had cats as well. I like both cats , and dogs.

My Male dog sometimes eats my Female dogs' poop if we don't catch him in time......eeewwww...
My Siamese was 22 or 23 when she finally gave up the ghost. She was a great guard cat - nearly as good as a dog.
