Name the Movie (Part 2)
Name the Movie (Part 2)
The last one was fun, and except for a couple, fairly easy. These will be harder to guess, except for a few that may be a little easier, but there is going to be at least one that is bound to stump everyone.
I have seen all the movies from which these scenes were pulled, so if anyone can get them all they are as much of a cinephile as I am.
Let's see what you guess - please refer to the pictures by the numbers above them. If you can, name the faces in the photos, but what I really want to see are the movie names.
Last time JR two and pokermike tied with 4 each out of 10. Let's see how you can do with these.
#5.. Dr. Zhivago.Waiting for the right players here to find out the rest. I feel good about getting one answer this quiz! That is, I hope I'm right.
Right on all 3 John. Who's the guy in #9. I think it was his first movie.
Not having looked at the answers that others have given, I feel pretty good about:
#4. Dr. Zhivago, with Omar Sharif and Julie Christie
#9. To Kill a Mockingbird, pictured is Robert Duvall as Boo Radley
I've seen #7 and #8, but have no idea what they were. #1 looks like a James Bond Movie, where the gypsies danced. Other than that, I'm stumped.
Right movie, wrong number, don. Dowser got it as #4. The numbers are on top of the pictures, not below them. At the end of the article above:
"Let's see what you guess - please refer to the pictures by the numbers above them."
Right on #4. I think deepwater don above just misunderstood where the numbers were. Also, JR Two got #9 already as To Kill a Mockingbird, but you're right about Robert Duvall. Wasn't it his first movie?
I got here a bit late, so some of my selections have already been taken.
#8 - The Scarlet Pimpernel (Raymond Massey)
Okay, time for the hints:
#1. A Bollywood movie that hit the mainstream because the story was an adaptation of an iconic English novel.
#5. A cult biographical movie wherein both the director and one of the major actors were known for their involvement with unusual films.
#7. A charming story starring a well-known major American actor, the theme of which was somewhat adapted by the movie "Trading Places".
#10. The main actor received an Academy Award nomination for his role in this movie.
I wondered where you were. You're right with #8. Raymond Massey was from Toronto. He was a wealthy heir of the Massey-Ferguson industry. One of my closest friends had his offices in the Massey family mansion on Jarvis Avenue. A Canadian Author wrote a poem that had these words:
"Toronto has no social classes, only the Masseys and the masses."
That leaves only 4 more that are bound to be a mystery.
#7 - Man with a Million
Buzz, you sly devil. Your hint helped. You put two movies starring Gregory Peck on your list (#7 and #9). I saw this movie on late night TV at about the same time as the Eddie Murphy remake came out.
I give up on #1 (have never seen a Bollywood movie) and #5 but I think I know the last one which is comparatively recent:
#10 - Hustle and Flow - Isaac Hayes, don't know the girl
Interesting info about Raymond Massey. I did not know that. He always seem to play cultured, sophisticated gentlemen which I guess was not much out of the element of his rich background.
Right, pokermike. The "Man with a Million" title was for the American audience. Originally, the English film was called "The Million Pound Note", same title as the book from which the story was adapted.
#5 Reds
Correct again. Hustle and Flow. Thomas Howard was the main character, achieving an Oscar nomination, of this film that mixed prostitution with rap music. The girl is the same one as the girl on roller skates in the movie Boogie Nights, which was about the porn industry. I guess she is considered to have the appearance of a hooker.
I didn't think of the #1 film as being so esoteric. I once included it in an article originally on NV and then transported to NT. The still I posted for the film was actually meant to be misleading as it has nothing really to do with the plot.
Unless you are familiar with esoteric biographical movies the chances are you have never seen #5. It is a movie in my collection that I watch from time to time when I'm in a philosophical mood - seeking the meaning of my existence.
This has been so much fun I'm going to do another one, but it will be even more difficult for you all to identify the movies - less faces and more places.
An example was in the first of these articles - the house that Natalie Wood wanted from Santa Clause in Miracle on 34th Street. It was the first of the photos in my original of this series. JR Two was able to identify it.I won't use quotations from the movies because they are too easy to google.
Yes, it was! His "break out" role!
Well, I told you that I answered without looking at the other answers-- I wasn't cheating!
Nope. Try again, and I've posted a new series of photos.
Tomorrow I'll identify #1 and #5 unless someone can guess them. I did give some good hints above.
Dr. Zivago?
That was #4 Perrie. As sly as pokermike thinks I am (LOL) I won't use 2 pictures from the same movie in the same article. That doesn't mean I won't find something different in a movie to post on another article. Thinking of you and how you feel about Gregory Peck two of the pictures here are from his movies.
Okay, since this article has been bumped off the first page, the two missing names are:
#1. As I hinted, it was a Bollywood production of an English literary iconic novel - Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice". This movie was called "Bride and Prejudice", and being a lover of the original novel (it was due to its influence that I majored in English Literature for my B.A.) I have enjoyed all versions of it. I wrote an article about the movies made from the novel which can be found in the archives of Classic Cinema.
#5. I pretty well knew nobody would get this one. It's a biography of the younger years of the mystic spiritualist Gurdjieff, called "Meetings With Remarkable Men". Peter Brook directed it and Terrence Stamp has a major (but not leading) role. As I said, both have a reputation for being involved in unusual films.
I like the idea of such an article but I am at a loss for the answers.
Heather Graham.
Two movies I recognize; Dr. Zhivago and To Kill a Mockingbird. Both made an impression on me. I later read both books.
