Forty years ago, half a million people gathered for three days of peace, love and letting their private parts flap all over the hashish-covered mud at a place called Woodstock.

This event exists as mythology for most of our readers, who only know it from a series of photographs and wistful documentaries. So let's take a moment to set a few things straight...

To check out these 5 facts:

#5. Woodstock Was Conceived as a Hippie-Exploiting Cash Grab
#4. The Promoters Lied to Make it Happen
#3. Woodstocks Performers Well ALL About the Benjamins
#2. The Logistics of Providing Health and Safety of 500,000 People Were Pretty Much Ignored

Yeah, this article is 5 years old and maybe this old weekend-pseudo-hippie forgot if you've already seen it but then when dementia slowly creeps in you do forget things.

I guess I wanted to post it because but for the grace of God and had it not been the for the weather report for rain I was ready to go with a couple of friends in my car (in which I would no doubt have had to sleep save for the fact that it would have had to be parked about 10 miles from the site). This was an occasion to have rented a motor home, but then hindsight is 20/20, n'est ce pas?

Who asked you? If what I post bores you, nobody asks you to read it.

I was just a bit too young to go-- only right before 9th grade, and still in Jr. high. I've read all this, and yeah, it was a debacle, in many many ways. Sure had some good music though!

There was a great documentary about the music of Woodstock, so this article shows the seedier more negative view of what happened. Were you there, John?
