Name the Movie
See if you can name the movie these stills are from. Extra points if you can name the actors in the photos.
Refer to the photos by their numbers.

.
I haven't used REALLY esoteric films for this, in fact a few are pretty obvious. However, you would have to know a lot of movies to get them all.
4. Field of Dreams
10. Oliver
7. A Place in the Sun - Montgomery Clift and Shelly Winters
Ok, I've not looked at the answers below, and I did HORRIBLY! But, here goes--
1. I thought it was Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House -- but it isn't. No idea.
2. I don't know the movie, but I think that is Burt Lancaster.
3. Absolute blank.
4. Yay! I got one! Kevin Costner and Burt Lancaster in Field of Dreams !
5. No idea. Not a clue.
6. No idea which movie, but the kid on the right is Mickey Rooney.
7. Montgomery Clift. Don't know which movie. Who is the girl?
8. A young Gary Cooper. She looks Spanish, so it might be For Whom the Bell Tolls , or A Farewell to Arms ...
9. A very young, very handsome, Paul Newman. I'm guessing at the movie, but it may be The Young Gun .
10. I think it is Oliver ! But I'm not sure!
Sorry I didn't do better!
So far, Perrie and Dowser are right with #4 being Field of Dreams. Pokermike got #7 with A Place in the Sun.
8. Sergeant York - Gary Cooper and Joan Leslie
Wow! I'm impressed!
Cooper I knew right off the bat, but forgot the actress' name. Honestly, I had to look that up.
Buzz, a guess on #10: Once Upon a Time in America.
I am dying to know #2. I feel certain I should know that one. I like this. Gets the old brain stimulated.
You're right, pokermike. You didn't have to know the actors' names - that's just a little extra. But you're not right with #10. Would it help to have a little hint on #2? He won an Oscar for that role - but don't start googling the Oscars.
Aha!!! I figured out #2 Buzz. J'accuse! I should have known this from your fondness for the famous Zola quote: "The truth is on the march and nothing will stop it." I kept associating it with Paul Muni, but obviously the photo is not of him.
I don't know the actor's name, but the man in #2 portrays the French-Jewish Captain Dreyfuss wrongly convicted of treason at the turn of the 20th century.
#2. The Life of Emile Zola
#10 - Shawshank Redemption - Tim Robbins and Clancy Brown
Though I was incorrect earlier suggesting "Once Upon a Time in America" for this one, I have a soft spot for that movie. How can you not love a movie starring Robert DeNiro, James Woods, Joe Pesci, Burt Young, Tuesday Weld and being an epic movie spanning 6 decades directed by the great Sergio Leone with wonderful music by Ennio Morricone? Anyone watching it should never view the brutally cut version but rely solely on the full director's cut of nearly 4 hours.
#9 - Let's see....Paul Newman behind bars. How about "Cool Hand Luke"? Just kidding, I'm stumped.
Joseph Schildkraut? I looked it up...
Right on, pokermike. It was Joseph Schildkraut who won the Oscar for supporting actor for the Dreyfus role while The Life of Emile Zola won best picture. Paul Muni, who played Zola to perfection, lost out for best actor, but he got it the next year for playing Louis Pasteur. I think they really gave it to him for the Zola role.
I'm surprised Perry and Dowser didn't get it. I thought Shawshank Redemption was one of their favourites. I couldn't show a face which would make the movie name too obvious, but this scene when Andy was going to be thrown off the roof where he and his confreres were tarring was a turning point for the attitude of the guards towards him. "Do you trust your wife?"
Nope - go further back.
Paul Muni, what great characters he portrayed: an Italian-American gangster in Scarface, a Chinese farmer in The Good Earth, and a falsely accused convict in I Was a Fugitive from a Chain Gang. I saw that last movie as a youngster and never wanted to see the inside of a prison after that.
The long Hot Summer. 1958 or 59 I think. Or it could be ''The Hustler''.
Nope, try again.
Well, since you mentioned Paul Muni, one of MY favourite actors, here's another article from the archives of Classic Cinema:
120 views and only 4 people besides myself posting guesses - even though it's front page. Only half the films identified. Seems that most NT members are classic-movie-deprived.
I know you're disappointed, but all the front page wants to do is scream at each other. I enjoyed your article very much!
Take care--
Wow! you're good!
Okay, John, you got numbers 1, 5 and 9. I didn't think anyone would get Miracle on 34th Street. Tony (Paul Newman) wasn't in a cell looking out, he was looking into the cell at his friend Chet (Robert Vaughn). The others had already been correctly identified or else you were wrong on them. This leaves only numbers 3 and 6 to be named.
Right on, John. It was Mickey Rooney's first movie. You and pokermike are the winners for naming the most movies (4 each). All the scenes were chosen from movies that I've watched. Since this article has now been knocked off the Front Page, I'll tell you what the last one (#3) is. The girl is Jill Haworth, who acted only in a few movies. The movie was Exodus - another Oscar winner.
Glad you enjoyed it. You have a good knowledge of classic movies. I'm going to do another one - maybe a little harder this time.
Thanks Buzz... great fun, do some more, please. Had some ideas who a few were, lack of a second cup of coffee restricted my brain power.
Did you check out the next two articles? I've already exposed what the two were that could not be identified in the second one, but the third one is much harder and still open for guesses.
