Stunning split-second snapshots of birds, bats and even mice and frogs in mid-air

1408700681163_wps_9_PIC_BY_NICOLAS_REUSENS_CA.jpg A kiss in flight: Two hummingbirds get close as they hover in the air - their green feathers glimmering against the darkness of the cave

  • Wildlife photographer Nicolas Reusens captured the incredible, flash photography images in Costa Rica
  • Had to wade through pitch-black caves with water up to his knees to try and find the perfect place to shoot

Crouching in the depths of a pitch-black Costa Rican cave, a wildlife photographer has managed to capture images of extraordinary colour.

These pictures capture moments that are almost impossible to see with the naked eye, and show birds, bats, frogs and even mice mid-flight, fleeing, feeding and interacting with each other.

The shots were taken by Nicolas Reusens, 38, who spent hours crouched in caves - often up to his knees in water - waiting for the perfect moments to snap these amazing images.

What amazing photos. The video was great, watching that little guy work his way around the flower.

I love the bats, such interesting creatures. Frogs, mouse, all were just beautiful.

Kudos to the photographer.

That was a fantastic find Larry! What wonderful photos and the video was fantastic. I never knew that hummingbirds have such a unique way of flapping their wings.

Whenever I see photographs that initially defy an answer to the question, "HOW THE HELL DID HE/SHE GET THOSE SHOTS?" -- they simultaneously evoke envy, curiosity and frustration until such time if any, I am able to provide myself a plausible/viable explanation.

THESE are such photographs!

And understanding the kind of equipment necessary and how it is to be employed, while hugely significant is nothing compared to the actual accomplishment of the execution and satisfaction the objective!

Bravo!
