You know how I love bees. Allergic to them or not, I have a real fondness for these socially complex little bugs that keep us all alive.
In the spirit of wishing to keep them alive, I would like to digress from your gorgeous photography for a second. It's been proven that a class of pesticides called neonicotinoids are responsible for the Colony Collapse Disorder of bees. ( Link to Harvard study ) God only knows what else they may contribute to. But, if you care about your OWN life, we should all take care to keep our bees safe, and refrain from using pesticides with these products.
Please read the label before purchasing any pesticide product and avoid those that use neonicotinoids:
Imidacloprid
Clothianidin
Acetamiprid
Thiacloprid
Thiamethoxam
Other pesticides that have trace amounts of neonicotinoids or have been linked to the Colony Collapse Disorder:
If you wish to see butterflies or moths in your property, you MUST not use these products, as these products do more than just kill bees-- they kill everything! Then, they enter the digestive system of the birds that eat the insects affected by the pesticides, and on in the food chain... Talk with your neighbors and see if you can get them to stop using them, too!!!
Thank you for allowing me a brief public service announcement.
