Going to the Mattes … 'Course, They'll Be with Prints in Them (Photos, Digital Art, etc.)

Going to (hopefully) be selling some my of images as matted prints; I have hundreds and it's tedious to get them ready for display and sales -- not to mention the cataloguing and spread sheet and other items.

I've decided to add greeting cards to the mix here's a family theme added to a recent photo. I think some of my poster images may also work but I'll begin with just 20 of this one.

Wish me luck.

Thanks Buzz,

I'm still buying the lottery tickets. When you come to Philly, you can take some pics back to China.

The prints will be offered for sale at a Library in the Western Pocono Mountains. There has been no viable library in the community and this one hopes to establish itself as such. A commission on each print sale will go to the library.

Individuals donate books and other items either for direct sale to the public or, to be auctioned. One of the schools in the area has given a generous donation.

A thank you to those offering their good wishes.

I have avoided so-called "Arts & Crafts Shows" in recent years since they attract mostly folks looking for costume jewelry; instead I have marketed entirely to publishers through agents. But this is an opportunity to (hopefully) generate some working capital in a community where I spend lots of times fishing and photography.

If things go well, I'll e-mail you with the specifics.

Best wishes, Mac - hope it generates something wonderful for you and the community there. I will look up where the library is and maybe drive over one of these days, if time permits.

Thanks Neetu; once the library gets well-established (hopefully), I'll give you the particulars. It has moved up from a sidewalk, weekend endeavor, to a storefront replacing a video store.

I hope to help it generate a little working capital.

Much luck to you AMac. You might consider setting up at a wine festival event. I go to lots of them, and these would fit right in with the wares that are typically pedaled. It's always fun people watching there too .... since everyone is wine tipsy .... which also tends to make them more willing to $pend.

You might consider setting up at a wine festival event.

That would be entirely up to the library management and township/state law. Anything I sell gives the library a 30% commission. My wife and I will also be donating books. I'm not sure the library has yet to create a formal mission statement but if asked, I will gladly help in the writing of one.

Buzz,

In 1983, I took a position as a newspaper editor. On day one, I was informed that there was no staff photographer but the former editor left the paper's camera in what was now, my desk drawer.

Never took a picture before in my life; a Canon AE1 and no user manual sent me looking for a camera store in center city Philadelphia and luckily there was one across the street from my office. I went in with the camera, asked a lot of questions and asked if I could get the manual -- which the store ordered for me.

After a year of taking pictures of politicians shaking hands any smiling at the camera, it occurred to me that I might take the camera to places like the woods, the ocean ... and take nature shots.

That's how it started. A graduate degree in Fine Arts and being a frustrated painter each helped me to "see" rather than to just look.

Over the years I made inroads with publishers, found agents to represent my images and, not so long ago started doing my own printing. I tried and hated "art shows" so maybe the library will become my niche.

Being retired with a decent pension and good investments enables me to do pretty much what I like and being healthy is a blessing.
