I have quite a number of photographs of White-tailed Deer -- Bucks, Does and Fawns; but the one shot that has eluded me for years, I was able to get this afternoon.
I was about 30 feet away. I used a Nikon 18-300mm lens, zoomed in at 300mm. I actually used the camera's flash (Nikon D7100) although I was quite surprised that it made some slight difference when compared with the first shot taken without it.
Were you on higher ground, since I get the feeling that although you were 30 feet away, the point of view seems to be looking downwards at them.
I was about 5 or 6 feet higher than the deer. Good call, Buzz!
were they startled by the flash? Or maybe they're so used to your taking photos of them that they weren't nervous about your presence.
The flash was far enough away so as to slightly fill some shadowy areas but not strident enough to frighten them away. I'm certain had I gotten any closer, they'd have run off.
Ain't Nature somethin'!
They are simply stunning!!!
Beautiful picture, and so very hard to get!
WOW! What a great shot, A Mac! Not surprised you had to wait a long time for that one! Perfect shot at the perfect moment. And well worth the wait.

I thought the same thing, MickeyMouse. "Postcard perfect".
Too bad we're in different parts of the U.S -- it would be great to do a photo shoot together.
Most appreciated thanks for the kind comments.
Shhhh...you'll scare'em. Great shot AMac.
They're actually my neighbors; they live in the woods behind my house. I've seen many generations.
IMO good art invokes an emotional response. "Shhh...Be still." was mine, Thanks for sharing.
Totally a perfect shot Mac!
Beyond a beautiful photo. Simply stunning Mac.
''Mother and Child Reunion''....
Incredible shot!

Thanks Cerenkov,
Good to see you here.
