Today I Went Wild!

Like most major, American cities, Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) has "mean streets" -- but it also has had the wisdom to preserve significant-sized areas of forests, streams, rivers and wetlands.

Today, I walked around and photographed here:

A four or five mile walk with camera, lens and tripod -- that in mid-eighty temperatures and high humidity was tiring but worth the dozen or so images I took.

Within the last twenty minutes I used this one for a new framing print idea.

Hope you like,

I believe a comment was somehow deleted, possibly twice.

A friend and I walked a long trail through the preserve; at one point, I dropped my camera on the ground, picked it up fearing the worst -- and took a test shot to make sure the lens hadn't cracked and the camera still functioned.

The shot I took was the tree serendipity!

Who's grown up?

Not me. I can't stop the aging process but I can always act immature.

But I thank you for your kind words.

lol...Well, I certainly am not grown up, and I just may NEVER grow up, but, I still would like to be at least 1/2 the photographer you are.

My sentiments exactly. I have a suit where one of the pinstripes says "I refuse to grow up."

The ground looks like there is snow cover. Is that a reflection from sand or something?

Steve,

It's the water in the estuary by the tree reflecting an overcast sky.

The original shot is in color but I desaturated the colors to emphasize the many, rich textures. What I like most about the image is that it looks more like an engraving than a photo. A close look will show that I did not take it all the way to grayscale -- more like the color on American paper money.

I often create several variations of photos that have a certain character -- maintaining the original and thus having options for both publication and prints.

I thought it might be a color shot desaturated. I could see the color. The reflection just looked like snow or sand to me, wasn't sure which. I don't live that far from White Sands.

Very nice.

Another beautiful nature shot. It does look like an engraving.

Indeed, trees are poems! In their bounteous arms, we find all of nature's music, too - from soothing lullabies in the gently rustling leaves, to the songs of birds, the emotions of earth's moods and vagaries. Beautiful photo, Mac.

Thanks Buzz,

Funny, I'd never been to Heinz until yesterday and had no clue about the contest.

Let me read the rules again and then decide.

Thanks for the heads up.

Even in their death, their beauty continues.
