This movie is on Netflix. You can read the paragraph about its contents and actors there. It is an Israeli movie. There are no subtitles. Most of the dialogue is on Modern Hebrew. There is some in French. If you aren't fluent in modern Hebrew, lack a basic French this isn't the flick for you.   If you are it is delightful. It is also almost two hours in length. Mrs. E. and I catch a Netflix every Saturday night following conclusion of the Sabbath when we are home...

Jones was ranting about the media not calling the terror attack in Barcelona, 'Islamic terror" as he held up a USA Today newspaper. When a passerby flipped him off, he yelled, " you're a coward." It had a light weight bow several decades ago.  A light weight 65# Browning recurve. My dad and I took positions several hundred  yards from each other.  I found a fallen tree that fallen across a tree that fell across a stream my dad like to trout fish in during spring time. So I climbed up it and walked to the center and waited for a deer to show up. One finally did. There was an obvious trail. I started to raise and draw the bow and the deer turned and looked straight at me.  I...

At O dark thirty my fishing partner, Chucky, also known by his Ojibwe name Can't-Catch-Fish, headed for Clear Lake California, the Bass capital of the West. Can't-Catch-Fish is also my blood brother and cousin six times removed. A couple of times I've thought of removing him permanently, but that's another story. It was a 700 mile drive to Clear Lake that we intended to cover in one day. Arriving at 6pm that night we were exhausted. After a wonderful dinner of cold cuts, dry bread and...

Before the days of TV, what was your favourite radio program, and why? TV was spreading though America before it became an item in Canada.  In fact, where I lived, with a tall antenna on the house we could get WBEN-TV (Buffalo) in the very late 1940s and early 1950s, before Toronto and Montreal had TV stations. However, before TV, while I was still a young kid (I was born in 1937) we listened to radio. Although I remember many radio programs, such as the Jack Benny Show, Fibber...

A California estate featured in the credits of “The Beverly Hillbillies” now has another notable distinction — the most expensive residential listing in the country. The Bel-Air estate, known as Chartwell, hit the market Monday with an asking price of $350 million, and was the home of the late Univision billionaire A. Jerrold Perenchio. Read more at  FoxNews . Doesn't say if the cement pond was renovated or whether the fancy eat'n table + pot passers are included in the price...

I thought that giving away all our family secrets regarding our special Secret Ojibwe cook book would be a great idea. Spreading the food so to speak. I know that many of you will not recognize these dishes but they are truly the ''Best Keep Secret on the Rez''. The first dish that is presented is the now World Famous ''Kosher Winnebagel''...This Ojibwe/Jewish  sensation is wonderful for a brief snack on your way to an important Pow Wow or get in a bite before sundown on Friday....

Our house in Northern Minnesota, winter of 1948. My two brothers and I had just finished supper, fried Spam also known as Ojibwe steak, potato soup without potato's. Mom was cleaning up. We were really excited, it was Wednesday evening and we had just gotten our new radio. It was a beauty, used, but hey it was new to us. It sat on a table, with a wood covering and had a huge face with two dials. The newest wonder of the tech age. Dad was at work, he worked the 5pm to 1am shift in the...

High on bleak, stony rag, Unmoving, he sits astride his ragged coated pony. Only telltale frozen breaths separate them from the still winter black boles of ancient leafless trees. The pony, blown and lame stands with lowered head, ears flattened to the sound of a distant wolf pack. The man on his back, all weapons lost, ignores the trickling blood from savage wounds, mingling with his war paint. Eyes burning fiercely he strains to find the sign he seeks. Behind, the sounds...

Many years ago, before many of you were born, it was great sport and transportation for us to ''jump'' the ore trains. A common practice in the area that I lived in. My two brothers and I would spend the best part of summer ''jumping'' ore trains to points unknown to us. Generally not far since our world was about 5 miles in any direction. It was July in the early 1950's when the three of use set off on our great adventure. Having had years of experience jumping ore trains, the day...

On the mean streets of Duluth, Minnesota a strange and deadly game is taking place. Pimps and traders in the sex business are dying violent deaths. Are turf wars the cause of this, that's what the police seem to think and no one was to worried about their deaths. No outcry by the citizens over these murders so they were back page news with little follow up by the police. Duluth, located on the shores of Lake Superior is a major seafaring port for the area. It is also home to women being...
