What the vid doesn't tell you is that this was an off-duty soldier in civilian clothes and unarmed. It also doesn't show the part where a teen runs out of the shelter, trying to run away but only makes it about 30 feet before being gunned down (I saw that part elsewhere).
He threw seven grenades back. Each time, he must have thought "This won't work. It will blow up before I can throw it back. This isn't the movies. I'm about to die. All these people in here, I have to try" or some version of those thoughts. Seven times. On the eighth time, it blew up in his hands and a hero died. Then the beasts came and killed most of the others in the shelter and kidnapped three others. Some survived the nightmare and later made it to safety.
