Live Comments - The Coronation of King Charles III of England - May 6th, 2023
"She Gone" - Queen Consort Camilla Parker-Bowles Windsor

What a lot of pomp and circumstance. Charles, age 74, waited in the wings patiently for this...

But, is this really relevant in the modern world?

Your opinions?

Not me.  As a Canadian and having been appointed a Q.C. by her I'm happy to have declared loyalty and allegiance to Queen Elizabeth II, but that asshole and his "third person in Diana's marriage" horseface bride of his can go f*** themselves.  I'm proud to be one of the majority of Canadians who now would do away with the monarchy.  Chucky should have done what his great-uncle Edward did, and abdicate in favour of William.

One good thing.. Harry didn't rate a mention and he didn't sing the national anthem..

But the funny part was the way the camera was angled at the end of the service his face was completely obscured by a feather in Anne's cap..

When he walked in he was second last, even Andrew was in front of him..I don't think the red carpet is going to be rolled out for him anytime soon..

Thank goodness he went to America and not here..

Is it really necessary they present Charles with every jewelry encrusted doodad in possession of the monarchy? For godsake, put the damn crown on his head, sing God Save The King and be done!

I know Greece does not feel that way about the Elgin Marbles taken from the Parthenon which now reside in The British Museum...

Sorry to take away from your special day. This kind of stuff is what Yanks laugh at.

Talking about putting on aires and highhats.

I actually met Charles once. He's an OK guy.

I was working the velvet rope at an event in Dallas when Charles visited the World Trade Center February 17, 1986. He was leading his group as they approached so I just stuck out my hand and introduced himself.

Yes I have met Charles as well at a railway station in England as I was heading into Russia..

Said he wished he could do that as I had been back packing around Britain and Europe for 1.5 years..

Funny story. Dallas had a crazy building boom in the 1980s. A friend and I capitalized (made crazy bank) renting mobile sanitation units to jobsites. For a while there demand so exceeded service supplies capacities that crazy profits were made. Actually we sold our small indie outfit to Waste Management about then. Anyway, after we shook hands Charles asked what I did. "I own five hundred portable toilets Sir". Charles went all white like he'd touched a leper, looked at his hand and finally laughed his ass off. That really happened...

So funny you mentioned that, JBB. Today, I heard someone say that Charles goes everywhere with his own toilet seat. I don't know if it's true, but I thought ... what a weirdo freak

Evening Greg..they should have skipped Charles and Camilla and given it to William and Kate..they are the one's that will save the monarchy and Commonwealth if there is anything left by then.

I think she will, be it as queen consort or actual queen , the people would likely demand the title queen for her ,, i read years ago that william promised his mom that some day when he becomes king he would return his mum HRH status that was removed in the divorce .

katherine has taken a different road , and from what i see has followed diana , meaning being what some could say as acting like a relatable royal .

One thing i do smile about ? camilla will never get the title of "Queen mother ".....

Kate is classier and far more regal than Camilla. And that has nothing to do with age, because even Queen Elizabeth II, in her 90s, was classier and more regal than Camilla.

There is clearly an audience for this stuff in America, otherwise the major American television networks wouldnt be showing it for all these hours.

Some people like pageantry.

There is an audience all around the world for anything Royal..part history part loyalty and part fascination.

Only reason I watched is I have never seen a coronation before and pretty sure I won't be around for the next one...

Same for me. I especially liked the music.

John I think the interest is because of a twofold reason, one is many American's ancestors came from places that had monarchies at one time or another even if they dont have them now . The other reason would be because something like this , the crowning of a monarch , isn't something that would normally happen all the time or every day .

Even here in the US we have our own forms of such pomp and ceremony, its not just as aggrandized as this . i think the US's closest comparison is inauguration day for the president . and that sort of pales in comparison, likely for a good reason .

Millions (billions?) around the world have also never witnessed a coronation ceremony. The music was extremely impressive, btw.

I didnt realize there was so much of a religious aspect to the coronation of the king. It takes place in a church , and there is considerable reference in the royal oath to defending and maintaining the Church of England.  Then he is anointed with holy oil. He is described as having been "anointed by God".

Evening John...he is meant to be the head of the Church of England as was the Queen..

But in his case I find him nothing but a hypocrite and not worthy of that position..

TBH, I think that could be true of quite a few monarchs.  I think it's been more common than not for royal marriages to be non-monogamous.

But I also think he treated Diana pretty abominably.

This is also true of elected and appointed people in our own country for many decades. "Power" can destroy morality.

But I also think he treated Diana pretty abominably.

Fully agree.
