CHICAGO - Hundreds of teenagers flooded into Downtown Chicago on Saturday night, smashing car windows, trying to get into Millennium Park, and prompting a major police response. At least one person in a car was attacked.

Shots were fired near the corner of Madison and Michigan, and FOX 32 Chicago decided that it was unsafe to keep our news crew on the scene.

Two teens were wounded by gunfire in the crowds in the first block of East Washington Street. A 16 and 17-year-old boy were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition with gunshot wounds.

Police were escorting tourists and others back to their cars in the Millennium Park garage.

The crowd was trying to get into Millennium Park, but there are checkpoints around the perimeter and people under 21 are not allowed without an adult.

Hundreds of teens gather at 31st Street Beach, leading to chaotic moments

A large crowd of teens gathered at 31st Street Beach Friday night, which led to chaotic and tense moments.

Video posted on social media shows people standing on top of a CTA bus and dancing. The CTA said that some service through the downtown area was disrupted on Saturday night because of police activity.

This is the second time this weekend that a group of rowdy teenagers has prompted a police response. On Friday night, hundreds of kids went to 31st Avenue Beach, and a 14-year-old was shot.

This isnt about Chicago, it is about a society that is falling apart. Blame bad parenting, blame liberal teachers, blame ghetto culture, or be more serious and blame what America has become, a place where a scumbag like Donald Trump can become the most powerful person in the world, a place where school shooting cannot be prevented because millions of Americans love their "weapons of war" (say all you want about the AR-15 being misunderstood, it is designed to kill human beings), blame the consumer culture that gets worse every year as young people are taught, by their society, that their worth depends on what they have more than what they are. Blame conservative politicians that say they want the right to "secede" and have their own government. Blame sensationalist junk media.

The public face of America is morally corrupt. These teenagers are a symptom.

LOL. The influences these kids absorb come from the national culture they see on their phones, on tv , and on the internet. Do you think "wilding" represents a 'progressive' value? It is anarchic. If the country is going to hell, why not have some fun in the meantime?  Nothing at all to do with "progressivism".

I believe you've said you live in a neighborhood with a high proportion of Trump voters (for Chicago) in it. They are exposed to the same national culture.  Were they out trying to break into the art institute and rioting?

Toleration for this starts at home and in the local community.

Trump voters approve of the same things that make people on the other end of the spectrum disaffected.

Progressives have controlled our national culture (media, entertainment, education) for generations.  If you believe kids rioting for fun is the fault of our "national culture" than you have no one to blame but yourself.

If Trump and Republicans have this much influence in Chicago then maybe we need a discussion about election fraud.

Aren't these urban Democrat strongholds supposed to be the role models for America?  Aren't conservatives supposed to become more like liberals?

Bemoaning a moral decline in America seems rather conservative.  Perhaps we've finally found common ground.

You expect to be taken seriously? Those mighty mental midgets teenage rioters don't give a flying fuck about Trump.

a place where school shooting cannot be prevented because millions of Americans love their "weapons of war" (say all you want about the AR-15 being misunderstood, it is designed to kill human beings)

So they were out protesting gun violence- with some of them using guns? You have proof of this I am sure./S

blame the consumer culture that gets worse every year as young people are taught, by their society, that their worth depends on what they have more than what they are.

So they were protesting LGBTQ+++++ rights? By destroying things and assaulting people? Again, you have proof of this I am sure./S

Blame conservative politicians that say they want the right to "secede" and have their own government.

So they were protesting conservatives wanting to leave the US? Again, you have proof of this I am sure./S

Blame sensationalist junk media.

99% of the media is leftist- so you might be onto something. But I am sure that is not the media you are talking about; so another swing and a miss.

The public face of America is morally corrupt. These teenagers are a symptom.

You are directly responsible for these teenagers; and the belief that they can get away with this shit. You elect far left loony tune Democrats endlessly; who are lax on criminals and crime. The Summer of Love rioters were never held accountable in Democrat shitholes. The weather is turning nice; and they are back at it again. They know there will be no punishment for their actions. It is going to get far worse in Democrat run bastions of stupidity.

Of course Trump is going to be blamed. He is most corrupt and dishonest president in US history. You think children are not effected by the fact that he has been allowed by "TPTB" to flaunt the law year after year , they are not stupid, they can see the hypocrisy that pervades our country.

There are many causes to this type of behavior by black teenagers, and to just blame black culture is a big mistake.

"trump" is a thing, not just a person. And it is a destructive thing, or do you think he has only destroyed himself?

And I am not blaming Trump , I am saying "trump", the noun, is a contributing factor, along with many others, that is destroying our social fabric.

Conservatives want to blame it all on black culture. People who behave like this are alienated from the larger society. Why?

I think that he has contributed to the divisiveness that existed before he entered the race.

I have no reason to think that last night was a reaction to Trump.

I haven't read anyone saying that this was completely due to black culture.  I find that term somewhat racist.  I don't bin cultures by race or am I just acting white?

Why?

This is not a liberal, conservative, dem, repub, any type of political thing.  It's not a Walmart, mall, rec center, playground closing thing.  This is an ignorance thing.  These kids, young adults are simply perpetuating the negative stereotypes that many on this board, in the comments above, have of non-whites.  It's n-word-ish at its basic core, which means ignorant black people.  This was not letting off steam, this was stupidity plain and simple.  Not only should these folks be hauled in but their parents as well.  Dancing on top of cars, causing property damage, fighting, shooting.  This has nothing to do with Trump, Biden, NRA, AOC, Pelosi, protests, but all has to do with these individuals and their parents / guardians - period.  And unfortunately there are those who are smiling from ear to ear over this display of destruction and running amuck and will be able to gin this up even more to clamp down on "those people".

Even long-time visitors have said they will not return to the downtown area or the city as a whole because of this.  And what's going to happen is just continued harassment of those who go downtown with good intentions but have the same skin tone as the ignorant and get punished.  Hopefully those who are recognized from the news footage and social media accounts are hauled in and held to account.

As one person being interviewed said, "It's not even summer yet - what's going to happen then?!" jrSmiley_89_smiley_image.gif

The look in that poor woman's eyes when the mob descends on her. Chilling.

Whatever you do, don't demonize these kids, says the incoming mayor.  It's the system's fault.

Per the progressives , the woman made the mistake of being out in the loop on a Saturday night.  What choice did these "kids" have?
