Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems reached a shocking settlement on the first day of the blockbuster $1.6 billion defamation trial in Wilmington, Delaware.

The trial, which was set to last six-weeks and feature testimony from top Fox News figures like Tucker Carlson and Rupert Murdoch, came grinding to a halt on Tuesday — following the swearing in of the 12-person jury but before opening arguments.

As reporters waited for two hours after the time set by Judge Eric Davis for opening arguments to start, lawyers for both sides held intense settlement discussions. The terms of the settlement were not immediately available. Dominion was seeking $1.6 billion in damages.

"The parties have resolved their case," said Davis, dropping the bombshell that the case many had dubbed the media trial of the century was not actually going to happen. The judge took a few moments to thank the jurors for their service, telling them that the settlement would not have been possible without their willingness to serve on the jury panel for the trial, and offered his praise for the attorneys for both parties as well, complimenting their professionalism.

This story is breaking and has been updated.

I have a different opinion about this then most liberals. I think , from the perspective of the public, it was a complete waste of time. Dominion got a lot of money, but it doesnt seem Fox will be required to apologize, to Dominion or the viewers. In that sense Fox has won.

But it wouldnt matter even if the settlement was worse for Fox. Wouldnt matter at all. The ignorant people that watch Fox could not care less if their idols on Fox (Hannity, Carlson, Bartiromo, Ingraham, Pirro) lie through their teeth to them. As long as the "own the libs'.

I read an article where there was a huge amount of pressure on Fox to settle.  Their "talent" were terrified of having to testify and admit under oath, that their "newscasts" were pure bullshit.

Why?  So much damning evidence came to the public's attention during the pre-trial phase, it was extremely enlightening.

Even if Fox admitted they lied, do you think that would matter to their viewers?

So people who dont watch Fox News now have proof that Fox news lies. How is that going to impact keeping trumpism from doing any more damage to our country?

You know that there are tens of millions of voters who don't watch Fox, but may, for whatever reason, be open to voting for Trump.  Their knowledge from non-Fox sources that Fox, and by extension,Trump and his clique through his Fox propagandists, lie, could potentially influence some not to vote for Trump.  It may not be much, but anything can help.

Devout Fox cultists are for the most part hopeless.

Absolutely.

Almost nobody watches Fox News.  It's far less than 1% of Americans.

No its not.  1% of American adults would be somewhere in the range of 2 million people.

1.46 million. That is the number of people who watch Fox News every day as of July 2022.

How Many People Watch The News Everyday? - gwist.tv

I think we can assume that it is not the same exact people who watch day after day. A lot of viewers will come and go over the course of a seven day week and it is certain that the number of people who watch Fox News during a week is more than 2 or 3 million.

But there is more to it than that. Fox News has a website.

Here is a link to a video on Fox  News website

We are seeing civilization break down before our eyes: Heather Mac Donald | Fox News Video

Its Tucker Carlson , straight from Fox News Channel. The website also has video segments from all the other Fox News hosts and shows.

Fox News website gets 291 million monthly visits.

Then there is Fox News presence on social media.

(20+) Fox News | Facebook

Fox News facebook page is filled with videos taken from Fox News television shows.

I mean, I agree that anything can help, but I think , overall, this settlement will have very little impact on politics or voting. Fox is not going to change, which to me would have been the only acceptable outcome to the absolute avalanche of news coverage we have seen about this over the past year.

There was a lawyer who comments on media issues on Morning Joe this morning and he said Fox News thinks they won.

As Jordan Klepper has shown over and over, there are a lot of people who do not believe anything that FoxNews does not tell them to believe.  To them, the Dominion lawsuit and settlement falls directly into the "fake news" category.

What I find sad is that so many people who will decry about how Fox News lies yet they ignore that every other cable news show also lies.  Even main-stream media (ABC, CBS, etc) lies...   National news has become so biased and full of bullshit yet there are many who eagerly lap up with "their" news provides.

No its not.

It is, actually.  The math is pretty straightforward.

I know liberals don't like to admit it because it takes away one of their boogeymen, but it's just silly.

1% of American adults would be somewhere in the range of 2 million people.

You'll notice I said "Americans".

1.46 million. That is the number of people who watch Fox News every day as of July 2022.

So even under your own redefinition, Fox would need to increase viewership by around 35% to get to the threshold where their audience constitutes 1% of American adults.

To put that in perspective, the final round of the Masters averaged 16million viewers throughout the day.

That's right, 10x as many people would rather watch golf on television ... that's old men whispering about golf shots you can't actually see .... than watch Fox News.

You'll need to find a different boogeyman.

I think we can assume that it is not the same exact people who watch day after day.

Why would we assume that?  And to what degree?

And how many of these viewers are angry liberals feeding their own outrage?  That describes every single Fox viewer I know.  I guarantee you have seen more of it than I have over any time period you care to define.

Redefining again, I see.

We're talking about people who watch Fox News, not people who don't give a shit about some headline in their Facebook feed that their angry leftist cousin replied to.

If you want to talk about "absorbed content", none of the cable news networks can begin to compete with Andrew Tate.

There, I found you a new boogeyman.

Fox News thinks they won

Paying out $787 million isn't much of a win.

It was a win for both sides. Dominion may have ended up with nothing had it gone to trial and Fox protected its popular hosts from having to testify.

The big losers are the nearly defunct far left news sites who were watching with glee.

Two things JR.  Fox gives Dominion 785M now without any appeals, not three or four years from now.

"A bird in hand is worth two in the bush"

Secondly, Dominion has just handed the baton to SmartMatic which probably suffered more damage than

Dominion and new information continues to come out.  Just today, Grossberg provided more recordings from a broken cell phone with Ted Cruz on the call.

Look for a several hundred million settlement from Fox before any more info is leaked or any For owners or stars have to testify.

Meanwhile Fox news is focused on the border and a parking garage collapse in Manhattan, not a word from Mr. Dobbs about Dominion.

We can sit here and say Dominion proved this or that about Fox, but in reality it means little. The 780 million is not a huge blow to Fox, which I heard has 5 billion in cash on hand. Fox does not have to admit specific wrong doing, which means to their audience the same thing as if they did nothing wrong.

Its not a horrible day, but if you dont have a financial interest in Dominion I dont think this amounts to much more than a hill of beans.

And this has been the dominant news story of the past few months.

Guys, this should have 'escalating' effects on the viewership of Fox News Channel as it is an admission of sorts of at least two conditions:

1.  Fox News is admitting to having lied (per the Judge) to the court (and its viewership) for purposes of making money.

2.  Their prime time hosts, the lot of them, are ready for 'pasture' as their own air cred is kaput.

Fox Viewers! You all have been 'mind-Fked' by a battery of self-interested competitive 'over-achievers' who only consider their bottom-line!

Now, 'Team-Foxwatchers' what'cha going to do with the new found UNDERSTANDING of the alternative reality FOX News created just for purposes of capitalizing on your willingness to believe a strong delusion?

What needs to come next is a big ass CAMPAIGN (I mean MEGAPHONE-LEVEL) to make sure every FOX News viewer from 'here to kingdom come' know that Fox News and News Corps had to back down and "eat crow" because it is full of shit. And, the network is a 'COWARD.'

Fox News: The Network that gets its viewers Arrested/Jailed/Imprisoned/Killed.

This very site (NT) 'lost' some of its staunch conservatives due partially to listening to a 'lying Fox'!

One would think some conservatives would be OUTRAGED and NAUSEOUS from reading/learning about the lies they have been told by FOX network and its cast of misfits - instead some conservatives and libertarians have nothing to write because they are "all in" on manipulation of the Fox viewer and the public!

Fox News will survive this. Because rubes are born every day! Just 'reload' them up and keep on truckin!

The fact is FOX NEWS does not want it anchors/franchise players to be placed under oath where they will tell the real truth about the inner workings of the company/network, or lie to cover it up (likely to fail in execution), or "plead the Fifth."

If some conservatives are not going to be SOPHISTICATED or SMART then they should move away from the subject matter. Life is too short for these daily fiascos of catch the some conservative/libertarian stalling out reasonable discussion. This is not interesting.

It's even worse, some conservatives GASLIGHT the entire discussion 99.99 percent of the time! They are disaffected. There OUGHT to be a 'law' or 'rule' against this repetition of negative behavior! The same conservatives who write liberals to bring their "A" game to the discussion- bring a lack of sophistication and stupid 'psy-ops' GAMES to discussions-and, its tolerated.

This is so F-ked up!

Dominion "owned" Fox News' in court today. Of course, Fox News will focus on the 'savings' that Dominion did not get all it initially requested!
