Key Facts

In a statement following Trump's indictment in the January 6 probe, the former president's campaign attacked the "Biden Crime Family" and the "weaponized Department of Justice."

The statement said the "persecutions" of Trump and his supporters was "reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, the former Soviet Union, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes."

In response, Greenblatt tweeted that comparing the indictments with Nazi Germany in the 1930s "is factually incorrect, completely inappropriate and flat out offensive."

The ADL chief added that "such comparisons have no place in politics and are shameful."

Key Background

Trump was charged on four federal criminal counts on Tuesday as part of a federal investigation into his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in the leadup to the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol. The charges against the former president include conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy against rights of citizens, obstructing an official proceeding and conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding.

Crucial Quote

In a statement issued on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: "THIS UNPRECEDENTED INDICTMENT OF A FORMER (HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL!) PRESIDENT, & THE LEADING CANDIDATE, BY FAR, IN BOTH THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTION, HAS AWOKEN THE WORLD TO THE CORRUPTION, SCANDAL, & FAILURE THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN THE UNITED STATES FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS."

The only thing left for him to say is that the indictment is like being gassed at Auschwitz.

"The statement said the "persecutions" of Trump and his supporters was "reminiscent of Nazi Germany in the 1930s, the former Soviet Union, and other authoritarian, dictatorial regimes."

The Biden administration has weaponized Federal agencies to destroy and silence a political rival, much like these authoritarian, dictatorial regimes have done in the past. These indictments, like those impeachments, are all about corrupt partisan politics
